Insurance

Footman James said the same to me last year ...

Adrian Flux perhaps ?

I use a broker - Marsh Commercial (01224 656656 www.marshcommercial.co.uk) for a Civic Type R, policy is with Zurich with no charge for monthly DD payment if required

Cheers Andrew. Adrian Flux want £1700ish, so no better than what I've already been quoted by LV unfortunately, but at least it's an option!

I'll see what Marsh can do when I get chance to call them.

EDIT: Brentacre have said they're unable to cover me, no reason given

Have you tried Manning? I know they are popular these days but they were not difficult when I put a 911 engine in my Cayman and they may well sometime announce their day at a time track insurance.

Thanks for the suggestion Ralph. I've tried them previously but they were hideously expensive compared to everyone else for me I'm afraid. I don't fit their profile only having the one car, not garaged etc.

This may be useful for those dealing with Lockton. Some eighteen months ago the Club had a online presentation on insurance by David Hamer - one of the senior people at Lockton and in charge of the PCGB scheme. It was, perhaps surprisingly, a interesting talk and in it David said that any club member having any issues with their insurance could contact him directly. I have had occasion to need to do this twice and in both situations David arranged for the matters yo be sorted perfectly. He’s a real gentleman

As an example, LV wanted £2000 with £1000 excess on the GTS.

I paid just under £600 with Admiral with all FFOs declared and a £600 excess which is insured with ALA for £40.

NFU Mutual does not cover my area.

I tried Manning and Locktons for my base cayman and wanted a stupid amount of money so didn't bother this time.

Silly question I know but have you done the comparison sites? Reason I ask is that for some reason the comparison sites are cheaper than the insurers directly. As an example, AXA would not insure the car because of the value however THEIR OWN WEBSITE suggested I did a comparison quote site and they provided a quote! Go figure??

Can I ask what FFOs you have that are/may be stopping the likes of Admiral insuring you?

Yep, I went to that presentation and it was really interesting. David was very clear about the cover provided, why only Club track days were covered not other track day organisers etc.

So I've just done a comparison quote for me on a GT4. 48 years old, 20+ NCB protected, car lives on the drive and used for commuting. List price of £90k

Geoffrey Insurance: £836 excess £900

Churchill: £885 excess £1300

ESure: £1036 excess £1000

Yep, done the comparison sites and eSure came up at £700. Great, but if you go direct and read the finer details re. mods you see it means you need to list all FFOs. So the definition of "modifications" isn't consistent across companies so you always need to check directly with the insurer too.

It's just not the FFOs themselves Dan, it's the number of them too. On my GT4, over and above standard spec, I have:

Bucket seats

Roll cage

LED headlights

Interior/upholstery trim

Plus my exhaust, side stripes and LWFW.

Once you get over 3 or 4 items insurance gets difficult. My wife has a similar problem with her Focus RS.

Forgive me but I think the roll cage could ring alarm bells as you could be deemed as a hooligan who spends late evenings in McDonalds car park playing your trance music.

Seriously though, as I mentioned earlier, I told Admiral about all my options, most interior, by giving them a call once I'd got my quote and they said it came under the one umbrella of 'interior modifications' and didn't bump the premium any.

It's a sad fact but it's the price we have to pay for having nice cars. Oh and us living in rip-off Britain!

Hope you manage to find something.

Dan

Cheers Dan. I have LV and probably Lockton as options when they post out their renewal, so I can get cover for now.

Just had a chat with Manning - £3k. Due to lack of garage.

I guess more GT4s getting nicked these days, or the insurers are worried that they will be...

My planned renewal, now with ClassicLine, has a very emphatic clause re garage:

"If your vehicle has been declared as garaged it must be garaged between the hours of 10pm and 6am or no claims will be paid. This restriction does not apply while your vehicle is away from your home or normal garaging address during the course of a journey"

I can live with this, so have gone ahead, but it did make me think about, for example, what if I get home at some unearthly hour after a long trip and say to myself: I will just put the car away in the morning...!

Not really Ralf, cover is possible with LV. Lack of garage and CS pack seem to be the big issues.

Thanks everyone for all your help, it's much appreciated.

See you around somewhere maybe [:D]

The ClassicLine garage restriction is a standard clause that has been there for a number of years.

I wish my renewal had only increased by £6. My policy expires in 8 days and my renewal has increased from £680 to £820 for my 718 Spyder, when asked ClassicLine could not explain the reason for the increase and could not find a way to reduce the premium. I want track day cover so accept the options are limited, but it is quite a hike when nothing has changed other than being a year older.

I was with Manning before but they became very expensive and have not replied to my 2 emails asking for a quotation.

I have come to the conclusion that I will have to smile and pay the £820.

PS I also think signing your life away to publish a post is getting ridiculous, could it be the beginning of the end for the forum ?

it’s fair to point out that Lockton will cover other track days but it is upon request and they have a list of questions or be answered about how the day is to be run before they decide whether o cover you or not.

It sounds as though I got away lightly with my renewal quote Geoff, although I think it was about the same increment last year. Having said that, my 987.2 Cayman’s probably worth about a third that of your Spyder! [;)]

The ClassicLine garaging restriction has been in place for all the time I’ve had a policy with them and I can’t see it as being too onerous. If you’ve got a garage it encourages you to use it, which is fine in my book.

Incidentally, although it’s convenient to get an online quote, has anyone found it advantageous to actually speak to an agent?

Geoff, as I mentioned on another thread today, the Forum rules appear now and again, just check the box to acknowledge, shouldn't happen again for a while.

Are you using a new device, Geoff, or deleted the cache?

Yes Alan, I’ve noted that I always have to sign away my life every time I clear history and website data on my iPad. 😀
