ANy recommendations for a GAP insurer? I've run a few quotes and for £350ish it really is worth the piece of mind in the unlikely event. If insurers still pay above the cost of the car you haven't lost anything except waiting time for a new one.

ALA. Use code MSE25 and you get 25% off.

Hopefully this is yet another revival of an old post.

I insured through Lockton for 3 years firstly for a GT3 and now a 991.2 GTS.

I have to say that I am getting a little tired of them...with renewal due soon I requested a renewal proposal but was fobbed off with an email saying they they usually do this 21 days before the current policy expires, but if you actually count working days and that you cannot get cars insured over weekends ( well perhaps not easily) I only have a couple of weeks to play with at most....so call me cynical but like many insurers I feel they get complacent that you will simply renew and write the cheque, so spin it out to the last moment.

Yes the Lockton policy is good but if the premium comes in at nearly double other quotes, is it really worth it ??so am thinking of going to Classic Lines.

My question , I suppose, is why does the club have these guys as their recommended insurers?

Only ever tried Lockton once, they were not keen on my then 10k miles requirement. Used ManningUK for a year until they became extortionate so went to Classicline pp a recommendation from this Form and am well happy

Roddie,

Just to say that I’ve been with ClassicLine for quite a few years and have been very pleased with their price, level of cover (full UK and EU breakdown and track days are included) and service, which has included the efficient handling of a claim for impact damage from a kamikaze cat! 😲

Certainly worth getting quote from them. I’ve just received their renewal proposal ... £6 up from last year!

Jeff

Jeff,

Mileage limit? or does the 5k pa only apply when getting track or some different type of cover?

Ralph

Did you declare all your options Dan? I think the Admiral group, along with eSure, treat factory options as modifications and as I've just found the same with eSure I thought I'd mention it.

As an aside, I'm findiing that getting a non-garaged heavily-optioned 718 GT4 insured isn't the easiest thing in the world...

Ralph,

I’m not sure other than to say that my ancient Mk5 Golf GTi daily drive is covered by them on a different policy for I think 7k miles pa with full UK and EU breakdown cover, so maybe the 5k miles pa limit goes hand-in-hand with track day cover? I appreciate that it’s not much use to you but for others it would be worth asking the question if track day cover isn’t required.

Yes. All declared Dave

Jeff, Thanks for this,

and thanks to all for other contributions.

I have now got what I think is a competitive quote from ClassicLine, and whilst their policy may not match Lockton exactly word for word, the key elements are there, and certainly or me and my requirements will do just fine.

Points about agreed value all noted.

I am now 12 working days away from the existing policy end date. Despite a chase, nothing yet received from Lockton and somehow I feel that they will fail to surpise me by doing something this week, or coming in somewhere within the ball park on the premium.

It just leaves me wondering about the whole ethics around a "club" scheme, - sure a club can have a commercial relationship etc with a 'business partner', but I just get the feeling that perhaps members interests are not being best served here.

Anyway, thats another story, and before I know it I will be asking myself why I am a member.

Forgive me for reading between the lines here Gents, but I think the main obstacle you have is that you require track day cover so need the services of a specialist. This is where they have you by the short and curlies!

I've just been on the phone to Admiral to ask the question about this and track day cover is not something they offer. I also asked them to confirm that my car is totally covered for all factory fitted options as discussed when I took the policy out. They said everything was fine. All the interior options come under interior modifications, PDLS they don't charge an extra for anyway neither do they charge for optional metallic/special paint ( I would imaging they may charge a little extra for PTS). As long as you tell them that your car has factory fitted options, then there shouldn't be an issue.

Re the 'Club" scheme that Roddie mentioned, I was with Chris Knott insurance in a previous club (Modern MINI) and they gave a brilliant discounted rate for club members. So good is their service, I insured both our cars for nearly 10 years. Only the first year of insurance on the Base Cayman led me to move as they were ridiculously expensive but the second year they were the cheapest. Same for this year with the GTS. I'm hoping they quote very competitively next year as they are very good and I will most probably go back to them.

Dan

I'm not talking about track cover Dan, just regular road cover! Various things are causing me problems (value, not garaged, area that I live in etc) but mostly the sheer number of options on the car and also their nature e.g. bucket seats and a roll cage. I suspect this causes quite a striking response on the risk assessment profile. Liverpool Victoria are currently the only mainstream insurer I can go with at a reasonable price.

For track cover my only realistic option is Lockton (and PCGB days only) or an expensive specialist e.g. Moris.

You’re probably right Dave. May I ask what quotes you’ve been given. No need for specifics just ball park best to worst.

Dan

[ul][*]Porsche Insurance want £2k[*]LV want around £1200[*]I'm waiting on my Lockton renewal, it was around £1100 last year[*]DirectLine, eSure and Admiral etc won't cover me due to my factory fitted options[*]AXA won't cover me due to the value of the car[*]Classicline won't cover me due to no garage[/ul]This is for SDP cover (excluding commuting and business use) for a middle-aged home working man and his school teacher wife with >20 years no-claims, no convictions or accidents and not exactly a huge insurance risk - or so I thought!

Thanks Andrew. I've just fired off a quote form to Brentacre and will try Reis shortly...

Not really Ralf, cover is possible with LV. Lack of garage and CS pack seem to be the big issues.

And now we have a new excuse - Reis refuse to cover me because it's my only car, if I also had a daily runaround they'd cover me! []

This is getting ridiculous!
