Insurance

Another thing to consider is what happens in the event of a claim. With Adrian Flux, they told me that if I wanted Porsche original parts for repairs, then I would have to pay the difference between original and non-original. Check out the small print with conventional insurance companies such as Admiral, they're the same. With Locktons, original parts would be used without additional cost. So even though Locktons charge a higher premium, they provide the cover I want.

I don't know what Classic Line's policy is on original parts, but it may be worth finding out before comparing to premiums with Locktons, just to ensure you're comparing like with like.

Cheers,

Bryan

Just received my Classicline renewal, exactly the same as last year @ £595.06 (5,000 miles p.a.) including a few trackdays [:)]

I have just taken delivery of a new GT4 and gone with Lockton. Over twice what I paid for me previous 987 Spyder, but over twice the replacement cost if it does get stolen. Not cheap I agree but a really solid policy. For example, they now offer for GT cars either ticket value for 2 years or 125% payout upon theft if you want another one and need to pay overs at an OPC to get one. That’s top draw imo. They are really good on claims, use Porsche parts for any repairs, cover PCGB track days etc. I really think for a few hundred quid a year on cars not far short of £100k why risk it ? Worth pointing out I have to have the Tracker enabled and agreed to install a security post on the drive as an insurance condition, but I don’t have a problem with either of those.

Hi MT_11ALL,

I will give Lockton a call, currently I'm driving a 2022, 718 Cayman S and insured with Admiral paying just over £6000 per year for insurance.

This year I have received an allocation for a GT4 and hopefully will be able to insure it. Currently quotes are in the £10,000+ bracket and the majority of brokers cannot insure me.

If anyone knows a specialist insurer for younger drivers, please let me know,

Thanks.

I guess it's an age and experience thing with Admiral Insurance and where you live. I've got full cover from them for just short of £200p.a. Always worth shopping around though.

HOLY CRAP you're paying £6K on an S and are looking at £10K for a GT4!!

I'd be looking at running something a little cheaper until your NCB builds. It would also be worth doing some driving courses done by the like of IAM which may help reduce your policy but not by £000s I wouldn't think.

Sadly the youfs of today don't help those who are genuinely decent drivers. My son pays £1000 a year on a 900cc Picanto!

I wouldn't bother with Lockton if you are a young driver. I'm 28 and they wouldn't entertain anyone under 30.

Ours is with Churchill who were very reasonable this year. Also Aviva is pretty good for younger drivers. However a GT4 is pretty special, so think you'll struggle with the main stream insurers.

Just got my renewal from Lockton, an increase of just over 20%.

I think it’s a quality policy; Porsche parts, efficient and helpful with enquiries, track day cover, brilliant recovery service etc etc. although admin is a bit poor (got my renewal quote a week before expiry).

The other aspect I really like is ‘agreed values’ which takes all the hassle out of a claim for total loss. I’ve seen from other posts that Manning and Classicline do offer this (but not permanently?). Lockton require annual valuations for cars under 10 years old which is fair enough.

My question is - who else offers agreed values?

Gordon,

I have a 2009 987.2 CS. For reference I’ve been with ClassicLine on a limited-mileage policy for a number of years and I have no complaints about price, level of cover or service. My renewal this year was I think about £7 more than last year.

The only claim I’ve made when I hit a kamikaze cat and necessitating a new front PU, grille and ducting was handled very efficiently, and I was allowed to use my own choice of (Porsche recommended) repairer; genuine Porsche parts were used.

Full UK (including home) and European breakdown cover is included in the policy as standard and the PCGB valuation has been accepted in case of total loss. PCGB and other approved track days are covered by the policy, subject to an excess of 10% of the car’s value.

The only time I contacted Lockton the agent said that they were unable to offer a competitive quote compared with ClassicLine’s.

If you’re looking for a limited-mileage policy (up to 5,000 miles a year I think?) I would see what ClassicLine can offer.

Jeff

ClassicLine we’re excellent, Jeff, and I have a multi car policy now at a sensible price - thank you!

Most of features are very similar to Lockton but with the advantage of much wider track day cover I.e. not restricted to PCGB events (as you said).

Thanks again for your guidance, Jeff.

Gordon.

That’s good news Gordon. Pleased to hear that ClassicLine were able to help you and I hope that the service you get from them mirrors my own positive experience … although of course that’s not guaranteed! 😀

Jeff

Just to offer some feedback on the quotes I received for my wife and I, aged 40/37 with full licenses since 18 and over 10 years no claims and experience of similar vehicles.

Garaged - Yes (alarmed)

Tracker - Yes (factory)

Cayman GTS manual 4.0 new valuation £80K with no Keyless entry, apparently this can push the price too!

Lockton Performance £,1300 (Mileage 6000 pa no Track days)

Direct Line - £800 (Mileage 6000 pa no Track days)

Classic Line - £957 (Mileage 5000 pa 6 Track days) - once you go over 5K miles a year it gets very expensive!

Adrian Flux - £3,500 (Mileage 6000 pa no Track days)

Churchill Plat plus - £550 (Mileage 6000 pa no Track days)

I've seen guys on here with quotes of £400 so slightly shocked at the prices given!

Lockton will cover you for all PCGB track days if you use the Club scheme, did you get a quote under that umbrella or just a general one?

If the latter, you may want to go back to them for a re-quote.

£579 with Admiral with all 'mods' declared. I am a little older than you though Jase at 49 this time and Er indoors is 45. No track days though.

Dan
