Insurance

I'm currently with Admiral too. I've never had to claim, but I would be lying if I said I thought a claim through them would be trouble free. Hopefully I never have to find out.

For reference, I'm about £820 a year on a 987.1 Cayman 2.7, with 4 years NCB if I recall correctly.

Hoping for a chunky discount when it comes up again this year now that I have hit the "magic" 25 barrier, where I have been assured that my insurance costs will drop!

My daily Mini Cooper S is about £600 a year too.. between our 4 cars our insurance bill is somewhere north of £2k per year.

One of the few downsides of being in 'the yoof'

Cheers,

George

Just going through the same dance as always, had my renewal come in for the 718 GT4 and I couldn't help but laugh. £1,915.63, 29 years old, 4 years NCB. It would appear that Esure do not want my business again this year! Admiral are coming in at £576 which seems somewhat of a bargain, but I'll need to get on the phone to them and go through the options list I bet. I don't think "clubsport package" is in their dropdown list of options.

Currently waiting to hear back from Manning, Lockton and Footman James for policies that will include track day cover. Previously Lockton told me to get lost as I was under 30, still am but I think they have changed underwriters. Would prefer a policy from them over Admiral, as the trackday insurance is great - Footman James doesn't have the 10% exceed on TD cover either I believe. Will let you know if they come back competitive.

Regards,

Oli

Try Brentacre insurance mate, they specialise in all you mention and are all fanatical about the brand. I have an agreed value policy which allows for track use and European travel with recovery etc.

they were born from modified car insurance so performance maps, exhausts or any modification can be catered for.

hope this helps, I was looking for a specialist insurance broker that really covered my car and these guys are excellent, ask for Ieuan,

We use the Porsche Insurance scheme, always have, they use or are Carbon Insurance brokers, our policy is still with Aviva and is competitive in fact it went down this year. It's just under 400 For a Cayman 2.9 And we're old , 13 yrs ncd. I've had problems with Aviva about high risk vehicles (not the Cayman) basically they're werent interested. And said it was no longer their policy to offer insurance cover to people over 60 in higher risk categories.

The £400 includes the brokers fee. Adrian Flux may be an option, I use them for my bike. They charge a £100 fee but the insurance was v competitive.

Well I got some quotes back, 718 GT4, 29, 4 years NCB, no accidents or points, 5k miles a year:

PCGB / Lockton: won’t quote as I’m under 30

Mannings: £3,800

Adrian Flux: £2,400

Brentacre: still awaiting response

Admiral (with all options declared): £615

Admiral it is then, and individual track day cover until I hit the big 3-0.

Drive carefully. We have Admiral for a small runaround. I hope I never have to make a claim..... they have really bad reviews allegedly. Too many horses!

Did you check the excess figures? That sometimes makes a huge difference. We mainly use the Porsche scheme because they guarantee to use genuine Porsche spares and a Porsche dealer. We had to have a replacement windscreen and a non Porsche replacement would have been much cheaper but we made them fit a genuine one whatever the cost.

That’s all part of the problem isn’t it, you never know what the provider is like until you actually come to make a claim. I used to think AXA were great until I tried to claim on the home insurance policy. Reviews seem to be people unhappy their premiums have gone up or complaining about admin charges, just play the game.

Excess was £500 on all the policies. When I was younger I used to take out the biggest excess I could and insure the excess amount separately, would typically work out cheaper overall that way.

Over the years, I've claimed from Admiral Group (Admiral, Privilege, Churchill) and most recently LV. Both were really good. Especially LV. You're not going to get track cover though :)

Thanks everyone for the helpful replies. In the interim, I got a few other quotes including from the brokers recommended and none were much cheaper than Manning. Having told Manning I was off searching for a better deal they responded to say they'd offer a revised quote which was only a few % above the previous year's. Result! I assume they've had a lot of people saying they'll go elsewhere and relented on the massive increase.

Saying you got a cheaper quote elsewhere normally works.... I'm glad you're not with Admiral for your sake. I asked them about Porsche insurance a few years ago and they said they wouldn't cover that make.

This bits boring so you don't have to read it. They were a bit difficult with our run-around cover it's a multi car policy with one car but 4 drivers who all get commuting and business cover and earn their own no claims. Except they don't earn their own no claims, in the extremely small print which I could only read with reading glasses and a magnifying glass it says the individual no claims can only be used with Admiral, except when my son got his own car they wouldn't give him it luckily I managed to persuade Aviva to recognise it after I explained what they had done to us and I managed to get his insurance down from 1500 to 650 with Aviva whereas Admiral would have been 2k and that's for a 23 year old driving a skoda citigo 50hp and comparing that to other quotes that's with no ncd.

I'm still grateful to Porsche Insurance about that windscreen as I've heard stories about cheap ones not fitting and it wouldn't have had the mobile phone antenna and maybe not the heated windscreen.

My renewal just came through (been worth Manning for 3 years now) and it’s gone up by £23 from £377 to £400.

ive tried FJ and Bentacre as suggested in here - both came up around £550, and classicline were £650 and none of them included track cover (which Manning do), so I think I’ll be sticking with Manning for another year and suck up the obligatory increase. 🤔🙄

i guess insurance houses have got to recover COVID losses some how... 🤷‍♂️

Hello DWaldie, out of interest when you claimed through LV did they use Official Porsche Centre repairers?

Thanks
I didn't claim on the Porsche, so can't comment. It would be interesting to hear which insurers guarantee OPC repairers though.

Do OPC have their own body shop? Mine (Sheffield) doesn't have one on-site.

Thanks for quick reply. As far as I know, although not usually on -site, OPC's do have associated 'official' repairers/bodyshops. Somebody else may have more definitive answers.

Lockton guarantee use of official Porsche spares and repairers, as do Porsche Insurance of course but premiums still seem incredibly high there. In my view, reasonable extra on the premium is worth the peace of mind that in the event of a claim, you know the car will be repaired to OPC standards.

These days there aren’t any ‘official’ Porsche repair centres, only Porsche recommend ones which are scattered geographically about the country. The only centre I know with its own repair shop is Cambridge - although there may be others - and the Cambridge shop’s continuation is in doubt after their planned move to new premises.

Incidentally, the comment that ClassicLine policies don’t include track days is incorrect. My policy with them includes track day cover as well as full UK and EU breakdown assistance, something which isn’t covered by some policies, so as always it’s important to check like-for-like when comparing. I had no problems from them when I chose to use my own (Porsche recommend) repairer, and the claim was handled quickly and efficiently.

I claimed for vandalism whilst insured with Admiral. I wanted my car repainted at a Porsche approved facility and Admiral conveniently had the nearest approved repairer on their list so the job was approved within 24 hours without inspecting the car even though the damage was over £2k. As a company they are known to be competitive for younger drivers so I've had to go elsewhere now.

This is a really useful post - thanks. I thought I'd add my experience renewing just now. Cayman GTS 2015, 5000 miles inc business use, parked on drive.

Mannings - was around £1400 - they told me Caymans have been 'marked' in their risk table this year and couldn't drop below that quote.

Locktons - approx £700 inc track day cover.

Admiral (renewal) £444 (£2 less than last year). Obvs no trackday.

Esure (via comparethe market) - £364 but no trackday cover.

And the winner is....Classicline at just over £610 including unlimited trackday cover (note that it is not at all clear on their website or their quote that it is included but when asked they confirmed it includes unlimited trackday cover for PCGB events, just let them know 48hrs in advance, 10% of value excess). Given that I got a one off trackday quote of over £260 from Morris, i'm happy with Classicline.
