Suspension Upgrade for 944 S2

I've ordered a pair of 968 club sport springs from my local OPC (surprisingly cheap, as mentioned earlier [:D]) should get them early next week and I wondered if there was any advice from you lads about how best to fit them. Springs are not a mod I've done myself in the past and would appreciate any tips.

cheers

Nick,

Are the 968 CS springs a straight swap with the stock S2 ones or do you have to make some mods to accomodate them? I assume you also have the stock shocks too?

Charles. The 968 CS springs will defo fit straight onto your S2 struts....Ive done just this on my S2....

Umm, Big Dave, are you SURE? I had a bit of a game with springs on my S2, and I can't remember what it was. I do recall finding some very promising looking progessively wound springs second-hand (but unused) which were supposed to be the right size for an S2, but which turned out to be a little too large.

I don't doubt you ... but it may be sure to check.

Nick - as far as fitting the original ones goes, it's easy. You need a large allen key and a fairly slim swan-neck ring spanner to get the strut tops off (there are other ways of doing it too.) And a spring compressor. ALWAYS tage GREAT care when using a spring compressor as, if they slip (or fail), the energy released can be extremely destructive. (Don't place any part of yourself in line with the spring when it is compressed.)

Definately SURE...So long as youve got 944S2 / turbo [standard],front struts + NOT the M030 adj jobs [ they have a different diameter spring fitted]...
Ive only just fitted them.... Well last month....
There were the Original Porsche "blue dot" CS front springs...
NOT "spurious" aftermarket jobs.....

Only thing you might have to do ,, is lower the rear, on the spring plate excentric bolts to make the car sit right...
Otherwise itl look like a 1970,s Cortina with a jack up kit fitted....[ Yes i had one of those too....]....[:D][;)][:D][;)][8D][8D]

Dave, I'm glad you've said that!! Thats why I've ordered them as I understood they are a direct swap and I have standard strutts, as all I want to do is lower the front as it seems to sit up at the front. Don't know if i will need to adjust the rear as it sits at a nice height at the minute, will have to see how it looks once fitted. Mine are the proper Porsche ones also, they said they were marked as blues on the parts system.

Will the front want aligning once they are fitted?

Cheers

Dave,

What is your verdict of the 968 CS springs over the stock S2 ones on the stock S2 shocks?

A tad stiffer, but not too much....
To be honest. My 968 is sat on "stiffened" KW,s . The S2 is on standard inserts with CS springs..The S2 feels VERY soft by comparison....[;)][;)][:D][:D]

Nick. Yes the front may need alighning . But thats a good thing as the car will feel fab afterwards....

Got my springs today, I'm goind to have a go fittng them this week end. I'm not convinced they are the right ones as they have a 944 part number, the lad at OPC parts assured me they are correct, the part number is

944.343.531.09.904

which I find odd if they are supposed to be 968CS springs, they are black with 3 blue spots on them, can any body advise before I start dismantling my motor!! [:D]

Cheers

Yes they are the correct ones Nick. I've pasted the requisite page from PET for the 968 here and highlighted the CS springs in a green box. Most 968 parts seem to start with a 944 or 951.

Nick
If they have blue dots on them, then they are CS springs... Each set of springs are colour "dot" coded... Blue, being 968CS ones...

Charles,

Rick Cannell's site - www.cannell.co.uk.

All there for download. (Quite a lot of the brake and suspension stuff for your S2 will be in the 'turbo' one.)
