Suspension Upgrade for 944 S2

ORIGINAL: Neil Haughey
Top mounts if OK keep if shot have to think about fitting KLA ones (Essential Styling sells em) as new OEM ones from Porsche where an eye watering price, perhaps they have come down now.

+1 for the KLA top mounts as a sensible replacement for the OEM mounts. I fitted mine in November along with the Koni adjustables and the ride and feel of the car was transformed. Difficult to say to what effect the top mounts improved things but it was one of those 'and while I am at it' jobs. Got mine direct from KLA as the exchange rate was favourable.

Hi Phil, Any chance of posting a couple of pics ? I have put my order in for the MO30 roll bars ect..ect... but havnt yet put the Koni order in as i wanted to see a few pics to see how the cars sit on them and at what hight, Is your car still on its original springs and have you lowered the rear on the eccentric bolts...

Cheers.
Steve.

Steve

My car is on the original springs. I haven't lowered the rear on the eccentrics but that's not to say the chap before me didn't. If I manage some pics tomorrow I'll also check the rear spring plates to see if it has been lowered..... assuming I'll be able to tell.

Phil

Some pics for Steve. I haven't looked at the plates.

Perhaps a tad high at the front?

Close up looks like it's a huuuge gap, but then is that standard? (Don't look at the brown stuff![:(])

That's it. The work I did on the suspension was to refresh rather than upgrade, since it is a road car and unlikely to be taken to any sort of limits by me in the near future. I also have a list of things that I need to do before adding fancy, twirly bits, sexy as they are![;)]

Thanks Phil for taking the time and posting those pics, much appreciated.... From what i have read i think the CS springs might even that ride hight out, assuming my car sits around the same as yours once the Konis have been fitted ! As far as the change goes from your standard shocks to the Konis how do the feel ? How hard do you have them set and can you adjust the rears ?

Thanks Steve.

As has probably being mentioned with respect to the Koni strut inserts, the adjustment appears to be there to compensate for wear. Currently mine are turned all the way to hard. Before I got the Koni fronts I fitted new boge/sachs shocks to the rear so I didn't replace the rears [8|]

The difference at the front end was night and day. No more diving under braking, or at least imperceptable to me; feels 'planted' under speed and corners confidently.

TBH though, if everything else was sorted on my car and I had the funds available I would go for the KW kit. As it was, I was trying to refresh and maintain what was already there.

A tad high.???
Flippin heck thats a LOT high.....

I knew I could be opening a can of worms posting that pic. Does anyone have a comparable picture as I'm slightly worried now.

Where's the best place for the CS springs - or shall I just give up?

Just found -->these<-- which may be an option, considering I already have the Koni strut inserts. Any opinions, or shall I start a new S2 suspension thread? [;)]

This is my S2 and its sitting on 968 CS front springs....

Regarding your rears. I bet it handles VERY strangly if all youve replaced is the fronts with stiffer koni,s + standard rears...To be honest you realy need a set of the 944 turbo Koni rears to match the set.....Otherwise , "we" might be hearing that youve "put it through a hedge" backwards.....[8|][8|][8|][8|]
You have been warned...
PS,,,,
DONT do things by halfs....If you doing it, do it right first time....

CS front springs from porsche are £86 i think, no more than that anyway but im not sure if they will drop the front of your car enough to match the rear.....Dont give up [:)].

Steve .
Its sat on 968 CS standard suspension, so no its not on M030 kit...
BUT it HAS had the rear beam re-indexed / lowered to take KW....As i had the KW kit fitted . Its now on my 968...
All itl need for the KW to fit back on is for the rear to be lowered on the excentrics..[ A VERY easy job considdering that everthing is greased up + free moving.]...
As most of you know, that is a HUGE saving in labour costs,,if you are looking at fitting KW...
