Museum trip and ring trip next year

Hi all, just been a bit busy this week. I would be taking the week off work, travelling on the Sunday, returning back the Friday night should be long enough. There are no dates for the Ring as of yet but have sent a couple of e-mails away trying to find out what is happening. Have also contacted the guy (Richard) who deals with factory tours so need to get some numbers for him.
Alasdair

Same here - is the proposed date still around 1st May ? If so that will unfortunately mean its rather too close to my wedding for it to be realistic for me but if it ends up a different time would certainly be interested.

I read in porsche Post that Geoff Ives was thinking of organising a trip over to the ring next year. I don't know any other details other than their was a mention in PP within the last couple of months.
I read it and immediately thought "what a good idea".
As yet no further details/proposals have appeared so I don't know what the current situation is. After enjoying several Cotswold Rallies I would be very interested on going on a trip organised by Geoff if it happens.
Otherwise me and Maggy are very interested in the proposal for this trip and early May would suit us so please register us as a high possibility for this. Thanks

Come on Alasdair, let's firm something up, the Dinslaken show is massive, it would be great to get a rabble of UK pork there, remember people that this show is midweek, a jolly to Stuttgart for the museum and the Nurburgring is also in the mix.
What are peoples preferences ?
I will go with the flow but Dinslaken/ Nurburgring to Stuttgart is a big haul so an overnight somewhere would interest me, let's get things moving before interest drops off and people can commit and we can get better organised.

Whats going on... I havn't been on here for weeks... Whys this not been booked up yet... Who's got there finger stuck up there arse ?!! [;)]

Still busy guys as I am braking this 911 I have to get some cash and space. What to do is take the week off and it will be sorted out as there is still 7 months before we are going! I also can't find any Ring details at the moment as well as it is still in liquidation, will try and have another browse later on if I get time.
Alasdair

Sorry to rattle cages, but if we could firm up some dates for this it would be a good thing; my most likely co-driver is needing to think about time off work and it would be good to get something in the diary.

Dinslaken on the 1st May sounds like a great thing to aim at. Snag is that the 1st May is a Wednesday and it would be helpful to know which weekend would be rolled into the trip; the last weekend of April or the first weekend of May.

Also, as has been pointed out, Dinslaken, Stuttgart and the 'Ring are a fair distance from each other and it would be good to think about the best way of fitting them all in. (Some people may be more willing to spend long days driving than others. Everyone knows that S2's cover ground better than turbos, for a number of reasons, but in my case the limiting factor is my own body!)

Oli.

Up for Dinslaken and the Ring, Stuttgart may be a push ? a hoon about the Eiffel region would be good, the Rhine is lovely (Boppard)

Yes this is all good & well this chit chat on the forum, but it's nearly now December & this thread has been now going on for 3 months & we are no further follow in getting anything comfirmed or booked... []

I suggest someone gets there finger out & we make some bookings before everyone starts spending there money on Christmas, i mean what are we actully waiting for ??!!! [8|]

Stuttgart is only 200 miles from the ring and on the autobahn it really doesnt take that long, depends on how many want to go I suppose, considering it was the original idea seems a shame just to pass up on the opportunity.

I know Alasdair is the lead on this but if he is genuinely busy there is no reason why we cant organise it ourselves, so far it looks as though there will be two groups on two different ferry crossings, perhaps meet up at Dinslaken, then onto the ring and the museum for those who want to. I cant see why it cant be flexible enough foe people to do what they want. i.e Dinslaken and the museum, or just the 'ring element. As long as we know where we will be and when, people can make their own bookings re hotels/camping/ferry crossings, etc.

Hi Edd

I would certainly want to go to the muesum in Stuttgart considering we are not far away & that would be such a shame been in Germany so close & miss out, As far as i'm concerned, i'm game for all four !!!

Okay, tonight i will see what we need for the Dinslaken show ticket wise, Totty look for some digs that will take say 10 rooms on the Tuesday Wednesday night, i presume we are looking at an overnight ferry from the "Toon" on Monday ?
Ed check out digs for Stuttgart Thursday night after travelling from the ring Thursday ?
I hope we are not treading on Al's toes here if so shout up.........................what are peoples preferences ?
Get posting and we can go with majority vote.

My plan seems to look like this:
Overnight ferry from Newcastle / Holland Monday drive from Holland to Dinslaken Tues overnight stop.
Dinslaken Porsche Show Wednesday overnight stop.
Nurburgring Thursday with a view to setting off for Stuttgart early afternoon
Overnight in Stuttgart and then Museum Friday overnight in Stuttgart.
Saturday head off back to Holland towards ferry port with another stopover TBA..............Southern Bretheren doing their own thing back to ferry port ?

Just my tuppence ?

Ok here's the hotel for the Tuesday & Wednesday night, £56.21 per couple, see link below

Any questions just ask... Thanks [;)]

And then not stepping on Edd's toe's but i would suggest Ibis Stuttgart City, not the cheapest but only £5 extra per night than the cheapest & it's a well known branded chain, £82.59 per couple, see link below

Let's know your thought's cheers... [:D]

I have stayed at the Golden Leaf Hotel Zuffenhausen on my last visit, its literally 5 minutes walk to the museum and right next to some of the Porsche workshops that dominate the area, it has underground parking too. Its also pretty cheap at £36.72 for double (breakfast extra £10). its the ideal place for a museum visit.

Linky (changed for Friday 3rd).

You can book now and cancel for free, so get it done!

Nurburgring Thursday with a view to setting offfor Stuttgart early afternoon
Overnight in Stuttgart and then Museum Friday overnight in Stuttgart.

Jim, looking at this again it looks a bit tight to me, Dinslaken to Nurburgring, and then Stuttgart by early afternoon? Dont think its possible once you factor in, breakfast, lunch and a couple of laps (which is obviously the whole point) why not stay the night at the ring Thursday (which would allow for some soicalising) and take the trip to Stuttgart on the Friday morning (Museum open til 8pm and only requires half a day to see). That still leaves Sat and Sun (via Rhine?) to get home before work on Monday.

Cool, can go with that Edd, Alasdair has a hotel contact who he always stays with when at the N Ring so i am fine with that (Where are you Al) plus the area around there is stunning ! i have e mailed Sonja who is involved in the organisation of the Dinslaken show and she seems happy with us being able to pay on the day to the Dinslaken show.
Her reply was not too clear but seemed to be pointing towards that, i have e mailed her again for clarification.
What Edd has said seems to make sense as a mad rush is not what we want.
Please add your thoughts and wants people.

We are of course assuming the tourist rides are available on the 2nd May, exact dates are not published yet it seems, although you can buy laps on the Nordschleife now at 2012 prices to redeem by Dec 2013 via the ring website.

Edd

I'm up for this trip if we can confirm details and would travel via Newcastle with the Cumbrian/Scottish group.

Think Ruddy is also keen Jim [;)]
