Museum trip and ring trip next year

Fixing the armco is eye wateringly expensive! If you spin, you don't want to be hitting anything. If you are going to drive a bit quickly or do a good few laps, the insurance cover is well worth it, if you are going to do 1 or 2 at a slower pace, doubt it would be worth it.
I am quite happy to go and cruise round and not go too mad for a couple of laps.

Armco costs are substantial, but nothing compared to the costs of damaging an expensive car, or worse, injuring a biker.

A friend of mine has been dealing with the results of a crash there for several years - he came over a crest, hit mud on the track that had been spread by a spinning 911 GT3, came off & hit aforesaid 911 that was "resting" by the armco... UK tourists don't always get the benefit of the doubt in incidents with locals..

His insurers say they are not liable for any third party claims and want their money back..

No need to post about the rights & wrongs of the case, but there's the risk.

I wonder about the potential merits of a personal LI policy here. It may difficult to find one not riddled with unfortunate exclusions.

Having issued the dire warnings, I suppose there is a much lower risk of hitting someone else during the week, when the track is open for TF in the evenings & it's relatively quiet - a friend of mine is on holiday there at the moment with his family - he posted "Saw only 4 cars and one bike out on my lap. Plenty spaces in main car park even with one half closed!".

Paul, can we put this up as a sticky. I will have a look through the Ring TF days next year and see if I can find something suitable. Have a few guys here already that would like to go.

Been watching this post with interest, do you mean Le Mans 24 hours or is there a ring 24hour race as well?
Hopefully I'll have stemed the oil leak from my car by then otherwise I'll need to tow an oil bowser!

Would make for a long trip! I think best to keep them separate. Personally I am not that interested in the 24 hours as i find it better watching it on the telly! The classic would be a lot more appealing though.

Definitely interested in this. I may clock up my entire mileage allocation on my classic policy in one trip though??

The Nurburgring 24hr Rennen isn't on the telly mate. I think you must be getting confused with 24hrs Du Mans or possibly the Le Mans Classic (which isn't on next year. The former event is a definite "must do before you die" spectacular!!!

I chickened out of going to the ring last year due to insurance worries and instead went to bruges and toured northern france. did the Hull ferry overnight which wasnt bad, pricey but not prohibitively so. The drive to Hull is pretty easy from Glasgow. The ferry had a bar and 2 restaurants.

I probably wont be able to afford it sadly as planning a trip to the states next summer... but if those plans fall through then maybe.

Up for this, though will not put the car on the Ring (He Said) plan for the Classic LM in 2014 though you lot ! should be okay if we break down with Al in the group [:D] keep me posted, Newcastle or Hull is fine for me, Eifel area around the Nurburgring is beautiful ( and i live in Cumbria ! )
Al you need to come in a 944.

I'm very interested in this. I've always wanted to have a play on the ring. Since I got the 944 I seem to have developed an interest in porsches so I'd love to go to the museum. I'll just have to have a look into track insurance because those stories scare me!

Looks like 7 or 8 possibles at this distance Alisdair. How many would you consider as a lets do as a 944 adventure ? [8|]

Al, Paul Tate 89 Turbo also up for this along with Moi, keep us posted, we must be up to 10 now.
