Engine Rebuild Finally Underway

Good progress today with help from Andy hairyarse and his off spring. Got the new engine mounts fitted, wishbones reattached, power steering rack refitted but not yet plumbed, steering shaft refitted and she finally sat on her own front wheels for the first time in weeks. There was till plenty of light after tea so I managed to get the cylinder head bolted down as well.

The new engine mounts look so much more suite to the job than the originals, which quite frankly were falling apart. The install is much easier also as you bolt into the mount rather than bolt through it and use a nut.

A nice feeling to finally get the head back on and torqued down.

I reckon I will have to make my excuses during the week and actually leave work on time and take advantage of the nice weather that is forecast. I quite fancy the idea of turning the key next week.

If you turn the key next week Rob you'll have to video it and stick it on youtube as I wont be here to christen Mr T with you [:(]

Have really taken advantage of the cracking weather this week and have managed to get a couple of hours in every night. The bottom end is more or less done now. Oil cooler housing fitted and new oil cooler - thanks Alasdair [;)] Power steering is all replumbed and the pump refitted along with the AC compressor. Suspension has been rebuilt apart from the ARB. Left this off for access to the oil cooler etc. My lovely wrapped exhaust headers and crossover pipe have been fitted. I can feel it is really close now. If not this weekend it might not be far off.

TBH Mike I am more looking forward to the turn of the key!! There has been a lot of work done and I always second judge myself personally and at work. I have done this a thousand times on 3000HP engines but this is mine. A nice run on the starter and some good oil pressure and I will be a happy boy!

Missed a day yesterday but a fairly productive one today. Got most of the top of the engine built today and manged to get it timed up. Always a good feeling when you crank it round by hand and noting goes clunk []

Hmm shiny things start to go back on.

Rob, have you replaced the O rings top and bottom of the injectors? If not, change them as they go hard over time and are liable to get a chunk taken out of one of them trying to get the rail on. The petrol then leaks past and can flambee your motor!
Alasdair

Looking good Rob, take heed of Alasdair regards o rings, i had a car apart and did not get No 1 injector sat home correctly it happened to be adjacent the distributor, fuel mist goes up pretty rapid when exposed to an ignition source, i managed to shut the engine down and get the flames out. [X(]

There is a seller on Ebay that does a kit for the injectors including the filter. Only about a tenner.
Alasdair

Good and bad today. Finally got everything rebuilt only to put coolant in it and find one of my pipes had a small split in it. Was hoping to get it cranked at least if not started today. Oh well I guess I will just have to wait a few more days until I can source a replacement pipe. Anyway here's a look at the finished product. I so want to drive it right now [:(]
