Diary of a 2.7/ 911

Just waiting for the phone call to say Althernator is ready for collection, but while waiting decided to see what the fan and houseing would look like when assembed

Not everyone's cup of tea, I know but I'm please with the outcome and hopefully it will look fantastic when back on the car.

My alternator was beyond repair[:(], it had been re-built and repaired in the past and was beyond repair, so I decided to bite the bullet and get a new one. I settled on a "Paris - Rhone". Easy fit, apart from the little nuts which hold the rear diffusion shroud.

Started her up, let her run for 10 minutes, dash light "OUT" [:D] Its the little things which make you happy.

II thought it was time to have a go at the interior, she was starting to look a little dated (thick shag pile, not a good look). I have seen, on the "Singer" 911, that the sides are not carpet but leatherette, which I thought looks quite nice and is in keeping with the door cards I made, also the centre is leatherette rather than carpet. So I have copied the style, and put new carpet on drivers and passengers floor areas and then leatherette on the middle tunnel and the side areas.

The interior is now starting to look a nice place to be [;)], just got to hide the wires under the dash now.

Over the years I have tried to go to as many Porsche Events as I can, but with the birth of my little boys havent had the time and in alot of case's energy. However now that they are alittle older, I'm tring to get out and about more. I read in the (September) Porsche Post about the "Calke Abbey" display on 8th September, and after a little chat with the boys we are going, so I hope to see you there ! Marc

Went to calke abbey today, nice day lovely weather and a big Porsche turn out.

Not to sure if I scored an own goal though, my boys loved the ride down, but hated the ride home, and I dont know why?

Hi and a late happy Christmas. While sitting around eating relaxing and sleeping :) I got to thinking about the dreaded fog light issue, I have never really liked it just hanging at the back of the car, a seventies add on :(.

So I broke out my modelling package and started toying with the idea of putting it into the read bumper overrider, has anyone ever done it ?

Another year, Another MOT ! Took the car to the garage Saturday morning after giving her a quick wash and polish. After a couple of hours (biting my nails) I got the phone call _ Pass, with no advisories. [:)]

Decided to revisit the engine bay, the paint I had used to referb the engine fan wasn't doing very well, so I stripped it off and used a high temperature paint instead

Hello Marc, Have only just come across your thread - very interesting, you've obviously put in a lot of effort and TLC on your car. I was partivularly interested in your interior refurbishment. My car is in need of something similar and I wondered what material you used for mid tunnel and side areas, and wher you got it from. Did you glue it in place or is it held on by the trim/carpets? Regarding your carpets, did you buy them or make them yourself - whichever, they look pretty good! Keep up the good work, Richard

P.S. - must change my signature - I've now got a 1976 911 (which is a long term project/money pit) as well as the Boxster.

Hi, thanks for the comments, I have used high grade leatherette from AS trimmers they have an eBay account or you can buy from them direct, they have everything including some fantastic glue. I made my carpets from an off cut roll of BMW carpet, I have really enjoyed doing the interior, not quite finished yet thinking of re trimming the front seats as there ok but a little tired, and I think I will try and source the passengers pedal board as well.

Decided to clean and re-rerb my wheels, I'm going for a "High Gloss Black" in the centre and "Silver edge".

Clean vrs Unclean

Started on one wheel, just to see, got the first couple of coats on. Will wait until tomorrow and then do the backs and then clear coat.

Second wheel near completion, painted both front and back, wet and dried the edge ready for final coat of clear coat, but will let the paint settle for a day or two first.

Fitted wheels and took for a quick spin, I like them, I guess not to every ones taste. My next job is to get some turbo control arms and then drop the front a little, as I think the car is riding a little too high at the front.

I guess she isn't too happy with me fiddling with her, she has given quite a fight but the pads and disc are off, now to clean and fit the new ones[:)]
