Diary of a 2.7/ 911

Happy New Year Marc! Once your kids have finished with your car, can they have a go at my 924 [:)]

Thanks Paul, A merry Christmas and a happy new year to you, and yes of course once they have had a little more on the job training im sure they would love to get there little hands on another porsche :)

Finally decided to start getting my car ready for its MOT, getting it on the road again and use it more. (a new years resolution). While checking the car over I noticed the Engine Blower motor had stopped working, and after whipping it out and giving it a quick once over, it is completely finished. Does anyone know where I can get a new one from, I have looked at a few places and the price seam's a little steep, or has anyone had theirs reconditioned ?

Thanks for the reply, i was hoping it could be reconditioned, but it has completly distroyed itself, the field winding coil has broken up, and the end plate has worn so badly, with the centre output shalf widening to an oval. I know the car doesn't need it and it saves weight to remove it, but im a big baby i like my heat. :)

finally managed to paint the outer sill, hopefully will be able to fit it back on the car later :)

then its off to the mot station (Well when I book it ) Marc

Put the outter sil back on the car, the rubber was so hard to get back on, loads or washing up liquid and warm water but it went on after a fight. I also replaced the heater fan motor, managed to get one from the US, it was from a 3.2 and had different connectors but after a little soldering job was a good en.

and it was so nice to have a warm cabin:)

Took the car for an MOT and after alittle work she passed [:D], but as i was about to drive her away, she didnt want to start- a flat battery- I hadn't charged her for weeks, but after a quick jump, all was well. Back on the road again is a nice feeling. Marc

All tax and tested now, back on the road, took the car to work watched as all the yr 10 gathered around it at dinner time taking pictures on their camera phones, with the smell of spring in the air- Good day :) Marc

I have been using the car for a couple of weeks now, trying to use it as much as possilbe, enjoy it. Its quite funny how you can become tuned to the car even after a short time, on the way home on friday the car didnt seam quite itself, nothing really wrong but lost some of its edge. When I had a look at the dissy cap there was alittle muck on the rotor quick clean and back to its old self again.

Has anybody thought or even changed over from "Contact Breakers" to electronic breakers. I have seen some on ebay, and a kit you can get from america which states its a simple replacment fit for the breakers and nothing else needed! anybody tried them ?

Today has been a good day, my boys finally wanted to go for a drive in the car, until now they have looked at it from the bay window when parked on the front drive but wouldn't go anywhere near it. They both claimed it has an angry engine, but today out the blue after cleaning it they both asked to go for a ride. "Result" and it's only taken five and a half years.

Marc, Congratulations-perhaps you could blame their "politically correct" approach on teachers [8|][:)]-now is the time to start teaching them to change the plugs, set the points & timing-did this with both my children from an early age & both are petrolheads now-in fact my daughter met her now husband whilst she was a senior house officer working in A&E at Carlisle Infirmary-he was her Registrar -he told his Mum that he had met this beautiful girl at work & do you know --she likes fast cars & jazz!-her coffee table has Evo magazine on the top! Now happily married with 2 sons 3 1/2 yrs & 10 mths but driving a BMW120d M having chopped her beloved MGF -TF for it.

Hi Vitesse Its good to hear that the passion stays with them, and yes im tryng to teach them about mechanics and the art of fixing cars. Its funny the other day I watched my older of my two sons trying to fix is battery powered pedel car , he had it jacked up on bricks and was asking his younger brother to look under to find the fault. To follow on I was fitting a electronic points system this morning, with the younger of my two sons watching with intent, mind you after five minutes he went in, saying I'm off to watch spongybob !

Now the holidays are here I thought I would take the old girl out and spend abit of time cleaning and driving:) However I noticed that the Alternator light didnt go out, and the battery only just turned the car over. I charged the battery and then gave her alittle blast around the village. The Alternator light dimmed alittle when the engine was reved, but never went out. Broken ! So i thought I would just whip it out and have alook see, however I'm now really baffled ? as it doesn't look like the one I thought it should look like, and it isn't in one piece help !

It looks like the back of the alternator is moulded to the rear shroud, is this correct? I know after time steel and alumimium will weld together, but there are no visable signs that the back of the shroud and the rear of the alternator are seperate units. Is this correct and Ive just been a muppet and for my model this is right!

its ok, Ive been a muppet, with alittle force they are now apart, time for a new althernator me thinks, the front bearing has gone and the field winding coil is damaged. Plus I don't think I helped matters

Sent my Alternator off to be fixed (Fingers crossed) While waiting I thought I would clean and spray the fan and the shroud.

Started the process of cleaning, stripped off all the old dirt and paint, and while the wife is out popped them into the dish washer to give them a good rinse, then hopefully and thin layer of primer a rub back and then top coat. :)

Painted the shroud and the fan, just letting them harden, then final wet and dry and then top coat :)

There starting to look really good, a couple of little areas which need a little more attension but I canrt wait to re-assemble, and put back on car.

You've got the central heating on to dry them? If you can use the dishwasher, why not the oven?
