About to put an order in but would like some advice. ITS HERE!!!!!!!!

Just saw a video of Carnewal's latest offering for a 718....if you're looking for more noise, it sounds epic!

Hi Cayman world

i have a 987 and have disconnected the battery and closed the front bonnet.

I am now unable to open the front lid via the fuse box connection.

Is this due to the battery being disconnected

help and advise please

Another small update

As we know Porsche have closed most, if not all, of their showrooms during these difficult times and rightly so however, I emailed my salesman yesterday after I saw that Porsche are offering £2000 deposit contribution and a reduction in their interest rate in Q2. This is somewhat of a bonus for me as it means that my monthlies come down quite considerably however, with the plant currently shutdown until the 20th April it looks like my order is going to slide further to the right. Fortunately the Business Manager is going to run a new quote for me to sign and once done means I'll benefit from the Q2 promotion even if delivery shifts into Q3.

Stay safe everyone

Update time.

Just had a great chat with the Sales Manager at PC Preston as I pinged him an email asking if the payments would be much different on the CS. Exactly the same spec but the options list dropped as some bits on the S are standard where I've had to spec it on the base car.

40 minutes later sadly I can't order an CS as Porsche don't have the model in the production schedule for the rest of the year and they concentrate on the GTS. Same with the T variants. Bit disappointing really. If the numbers stacked up right I'd have probably pulled the pin on one but he told me I'd be no way unhappy with the 2.0. Looks like I may have to buy some Porsche red brake callipers to keep 'er in doors happy. I'd imagine as long as they are genuine Porsche there wont be an issue (apart from those saying I'm tying to make my car look like an S [;)]).

Also they are looking at doing remote handovers initially. Basically the customer's car is delivered to their home on a transporter and then a virtual handover is done by the salesman. I've no issue with this but I'd like the showroom experience. This is something they are looking into with H&S as thats what they want to do but safety first and all that.

No update on the plant opening yet but he did say that there may be some supply issues as components from 2nd and 3rd tier suppliers are slow to come through the system. Hopefully they've lots of blue paint!

Enjoy the sunshine everyone and stay safe.

That is interesting news on the remote handovers Scrounger.

I'm currently waiting for an update from OPC Chester on the delivery of my new Macan Turbo previously scheduled for early June. PC Chester had originally intended sending a driver north to Inverness to collect my part-exchange 718 CGTS. My Abarth, also part-exchanged for the new Macan, was originally being retained by me until the new car handover. All prices fixed at the time of the order in early March I am relieved to say.

The virtual handover idea combined with the delivery of the new vehicle on a transporter is exactly what I had in mind given the current coronavirus lockdown. Not forgetting the fact that where I live in the relatively remote north Highlands, the incidence of CV cases is minuscule compared to the north-west of England.

I will gladly forfeit the excellent handover experience provided by PC Chester in exchange for staying safe from Covid-19.

Component supply issues are a big player in our new car deliveries. Many items are sourced in China, as is the paint I understand.

Good luck with your order, and stay safe.

Gents

Need some advice sooner rather than later before my car goes into lockdown.

I've just seen a Night Blue 718 in the flesh and to be honest its put doubt in my mind. After scouring the internet for 718s in various colours I've narrowed in down to 2, gusting 3, options.

1. Carmine Red (expensive for what it is)

2. White or even metallic Carrara White, is there much difference between the 2?

3. Black (currently running as the rank outsider as I'm not a fan of black but er in doors is)

Would you be so kind as to help a chap out and post your thoughts before I go off my trolley! Car will be sat on Carrera Classics.

Thanks in advance

Dan.

Looking at the configurator I’d prefer Gentian blue over Night blue, or Guards red over Carmine red and pocket the saving or spend that on another option.

My 981 is Basalt Black and polishes beautifully. But it shows ever scratch. You only have to walk past it and you mark it. Does your wife like polishing cars [:D]

That would be my job! I'm not a lover of black (no disrespect to black owners) as, like you say, it shows every mark.

Please don't go black Dan ... your Mrs is wrong.! Isn't it going to be a daily drive? In which case it's always going to look grubby.

White is OK, but it's a bit 'yesterday' and can also begin to look grubby rather quickly.

Silver's a good colour for a daily drive as it manages to look quite respectable even with a layer of dirt on it.

Carmine Red or Gentian Blue would be my choices, or Guards Red if you don't want the expense of metallic. All proper 'colours'.

Jeff

Thanks for your thoughts Jeff. It will be used as a daily until the end of the year when I intend to share a runabout with my son when he passes his test. Black has fallen at the first hurdle and Carmine red is currently running in second with Carrara White in the lead but I’m going to sleep on it. I could go solid white and add another option With the saved £632 but looking through them again today the only thing I’d add would be the reversing camera.

Guards red was never in the running and even though Gentian looks great on the GTS and 911 it’s not for me.

I’m quite OCD with my cars and they get washed at least once a week. My current car is a white Tiguan (and an oil burner at that) so I’m used to the pain of seeing its bum dirty as soon as I drive 50 yards down the road.

Car goes into lockdown in 9 days.

Dan,

White is white as far as I'm concerned, and the reversing camera could be very useful if you're doing a lot of parking in restricted spaces or on-street. Rear visibility isn't one of the Cayman's strengths - poor 3/4 visibility and big haunches don't help.

Jeff

Thanks to all those who offered their advice.

After a somewhat sleepless night and a discussion that annoyed the wife, I've changed my colour to Carrara White Metallic and added the rear model designation in black.

I know the world is a mass of white, blacks and greys, and I would have liked the Carmine (even Agate but the wife Merc is grey) but I couldn't justify the extra £1000 above metallic.

My car goes into lockdown in 8 days. Does anyone know the approximate time between lockdown and end of build in a 'normal' world?

Thanks again everyone

Dan

Dan,

It's great that we have plenty of colour choices and other options these days, but sometimes I hanker back to the days when you could have a car in any colour you liked ... as long as it was black! Choice is a great thing, but as you've discovered it causes plenty of sleepless nights, and hopefully now you've settled upon your final spec.

As to when your car will arrive, unfortunately it's anyone's guess at the moment. As I mentioned in my GT4 post, both the Zuffenhausen and Leipzig plants will be restarting production on Monday, but there's no mention yet of what's happening at the Osnabrück plant where Caymans are built. Even when production starts it's likely to be stunted by operative safety considerations and a probable lack of parts, essential for just-in-time production. Perhaps in 8-days time your Dealership will be in a position to give you a best-guess delivery date, but I fear that at this stage it's likely to speculative.

Jeff

So. Zunsport grills arrived a couple of days ago and I got a genuine aluminium look fuel filler cap for a steal.

WRT the grills, does anyone know why there are only 3 open girls on the base cayman and yet 4 for the S. Most probably something to do with cooling but as its only a trim piece I may order the S ones to open them up a bit unless the rads are smaller.

If memory serves me. I ordered the pack of six (3 either side) and then the central one separately. FWIW, I had to use a tie grip for each of the outer, central, ones to make sure they are secure. A good buy, I reckon.

Well just had word from the dealer and my lockdown has now moved slightly to the right from the 9th to the 18th May.

I don't really intend to change the spec now however a friend of mine has just ordered a 718 and has specced PASM as he says he prefers the look and ride.

Is this something I should add last minute but I have some concerns.

1. The ride would be firmer in normal than stock suspension on 20's

2. As this is probably going to be a keeper , I'm concerned on the cost if there are issues in the future.

3. Speed humps. I bloody hate these things but one thing I don't want is to scrape the underside every time I go over one. Standard suspension is fine for this but how does everyone with PASM manage over the speed humps and car park ramps?

4. Finally, and this is a biggy, I like the look of the car with PASM. Even though its only 10mm the stance looks better but is that worth a grand?

Sadly I can't drive a car with PASM due to lockdown.

Welcome your thoughts.
