About to put an order in but would like some advice. ITS HERE!!!!!!!!

I was also surprised but hey, they do what they do.

The thing that’s really paining me now is that the sun is shining and I can’t wash the car for another 4 days at least so it looks like a Saturday afternoon bath for it and I really can’t wait. my OCD is going bonkers but I got a little fix by cleaning the inside and then getting underneath to clean the silencers (I like shiney things).

as it stands the PPF is pretty good. Most of the bubbling has gassed out but there are some bits that will need sorting when it goes in for a PPF inspection in about 3 weeks and anything that needs replacing will be done then. Not unusual apparently.

This car is an absolute joy to drive. I find myself wanting to take the long way home after work just to be in it for that little bit longer. After removing the soundakator fuse the engine sound is more natural and the cabin is quieter, even the base sound system sounds pretty good now.

Fuel economy is on the rise and I’m averaging about 33mpg. The range in the tank varies from 465-500 depending on where I’m driving and I’ve already gone through a tank of fuel (aided by the wife’s heavy right foot I might add).

Only 1 annoying squeak from the dash where it meets the windscreen and after eventually getting the A pillar off and giving the offending area a good slap, it appears to have calmed itself down now but we’ll see how it behaves on the ride home when it’s warmer.

One thing I did notice yesterday was a pool of something on the floor behind the front wheel. It feels a little greasy to the touch. I can’t see anything leaking underneath but will have a look with the ac running. It could just be fluid from there, either that or the resident moggy is relieving itself on my car.

I protect my cars to avoid washing them … the gtechniq system on the previous two Caymans` and 30,000 miles certainly helped big time !

Key to sorting interior squeaks is miles, miles and more miles … [;)]

`Pool` … if it`s the nearside could be screen-wash, taste it :p

Just a small update. Car has just done 2000 miles so it’s time to open the taps! Did the Porsche driving experience at PEC Silverstone last weekend and it was brilliant. Due to Covid restrictions the instructor is in a separate car and you’re in a chase car. Tbh I preferred that to them being sat next to you. Skid pan was very useful as it teaches you how to control the car if the back end decides it wants to go it’s own way. Fortunately we had great weather and as the centre is right next to silverstone race track, there’s an opportunity to watch some of the track day cars go round the circuit. Well worth a visit if you get chance. I’m hoping to get some runs done over the moors and through Wales before the weather takes a turn. Maybe the Snake Pass, Black Mountain pass and the Cat and Fiddle.

The snake is a great road but (like the rest of Derbyshire) has a 50mph limit. Best driven west to east as visibility is better 😉

The black mountain pass (A4069) is fun but quite technical and relatively short at 12 miles long.

I did an overnighter trip from North Oxfordshire to drive it last week and think it was perhaps a road I would do if I was driving in the general area rather than make a special trip. During a recent holiday to the borders of Scotland we did a flying visit to Peebles to catch up with some friends, the road from Moffat to Peebles (A701, 45 mins and 33 miles) was simply magical and in my opinion hands down better than the Black Mountain Pass (A4069) in Wales.

Have fun!

Small update.

car is now passed 2700 miles and is loosening up nicely. Averaging around 35-40 mpg depending on the roads driven. The annoying dashboard ’fizz’ was looked at yesterday by OPC Preston and they couldn’t find a fault or replicate it. Typical. Similar to booking a doctors appointment then arriving with no symptoms. Anyway, they gave me a very nice Macan for the day with lots of toys on. I was impressed and er in doors even more so. Needless to say it’s on the shopping list when she comes to change.

whilst I was waiting to collect the car, Porsche quite graciously liberated me of a wad of cash for winter wheels and tyres. I’ll be swapping them over myself as they wanted £140 for storage and swapping. I’ll invest in a low trolley jack for a fraction of the cost, me thinks. Any suggestions?

I used SGS https://www.sgs-engineering.com/garage-equipment/trolley-jacks?gclid=CjwKCAjw5p_8BRBUEiwAPpJO65z8Qslo6WF_CkigFlQiV-rcGJbG7eWUuazNrtLZYeuZQ3Yx3ZpokBoCf1kQAvD_BwE for an ally item, decent quality but the main piston / cylinder seal failed a year outside the warranty. Given it`s light usage I was disappointed with this and their response … charged me for a full set of spare seals. Whereas my twenty year old Halfords item has never had an issue

Have recently looked at a Clarke unit, has one of the lowest entry heights … from Machine Mart, see attachment

Ordered the 18inch Boxster wheel set. The 19’s were another £500 plus had to buy the centre caps as they are an extra 😳. PCGB discount was deducted 😁

Yes! I know about the extra £500, because I went for them because I wasn’t convinced that the 18s would really fit over the calipers on my ceramics. Porsche say they will but it must be a tight fit.

My OPC only charge £90 for storage so it will only take 10 years to make up the difference.

So, 3800 miles in and I am happy to say I am properly in love with this car however, my drivers seat base is starting to suffer from saggy bum syndrome. Not what I’d expect from a Porsche really and I’m tempted to see if it be replaced under warranty. I’ve done the hot towel trick a couple of times but the first drive afterwards the saggy bum returns. Anyone else have this problem? Now I’m by far a heavyweight (68kgs wet through with my boots on) but it does make me wish I’d have stayed with the Alcantara seats. I currently get around 450-470 miles from the tank (64ltrs) which I'm quite happy with as most of my commute is a 10 mile round trip with a good blast once a week to see a friend 30 miles away.

On another note, as the early mornings are now steadily below 5 degrees, the winter wheels and tyres are on. They look fine for what they’re for but not the style I’d like to run permanently. Tyres feel ok but I’ve not been pushing them hard and I have noticed the characteristic ‘skipping’ when on full lock has gone.

Car is booked in tomorrow for the OPC to take a look at my saggy seats. Fingers crossed its something they can do something about as I dread to think what they'll look like after 3 years!

In the meantime, I'll try and give it a wash today[&:]

Update time

4700 miles in and the car has, up to now, performed brilliantly in the snow and ice we've had here. The Pirelli Sotozeros have great grip however temps have been a little higher (7-10 deg) over the last couple of days and these are now a little squirmy. I also noticed the tyre pressures would rise to about 34psi. I really wish I could get the tyre temps on the display!

I also managed to get a trip in to see my OPC about my saggy bum seat as the original appointment was scuppered by lockdown 2.0 or is it 3.0??. Porsche has sent out a dealership guide re this issue and sadly mine fits into their claimed tolerance. At least my concerns have been logged and if it gets worse they'll have another look. Whilst there, my eyes were drifting to a very nice Cayman T in guards red but 'Er in doors gave me the look of 'not a chance'. You know exactly what I mean chaps! Secretly I may well be skimming some savings away which might allow me to get something with a 4.0 in its title when its warranty extension time, but keep that to yourselves.

A little mod done yesterday as well. After well deserved wash, I decided to change the body coloured '718 Cayman' bumper badge with matt black ones. Not a difficult job but trying to manipulate dental floss in near zero temps was a little challenging. I also needed to pinch a certain someones hair dryer which, again, raised an eyebrow.

Anyway, some pics of my work.

Now lets just say the cost of the badges would not be what I would say reasonable however, as its a Porsche I think I need to get used to adding a zero on the end of what I think the cost would be. Chatting to the parts manager he did say that I should be grateful I wasn't after the TURBO badge as this was £200+.

Anyway, I hope everyone is safe and well and I look forward to seeing you all on a club Zoom meeting at some stage.

You could always employ my tactics, and reassure her that she is lucky to be a woman, as when little girls grow up they are blessed with wisdom and common sense; whereas when/if little boys grow up, they just get better toys! (Take it from someone who has a car with 4.0 in its name).

So this car is now sold to a chap who lives in Chorley.

I'm hoping that he takes car of it as I did and maybe he'll become a PCGB member. New reg on the car is MT20ZYL.
