991.2 GTS

I pick up my C4 GTS this weekend, so will stick a few pics on when I get it to let you see and will update on thoughts once I get to grips with it.
 
Great stuff. Looking forward to pictures and initial thoughts. Mine is about a week away from hitting the dealership, I hope.
 
Hi. I too have been extremely lucky to be able to order a new GTS, expecting delivery in a few weeks to time.

Can anyone please suggest paint protection film solutions and if possible any guide pricing.

I'm getting mine treated by a detailer, with swissvax paint protection. For full clean/decontamination/polish and treatment he charges £250. For the same treatment PCG wanted £650, but more importantly the independent detailer is a professional, whereas the PCG guys are not exclusive detail specialists so for more money you don't necessarily get the same quality (of course depends on who does it in the dealership). The other option is a ceramic coating, which is a hard heat treated sealant which gives a little more protection. Same guy quoted me £650 for this, but you need to ensure whoever is doing this knows what they are doing as it's applied under heat lamps and needs cured properly.

Main difference is wax/sealant is a natural product, softer and gives a 'wetter' look finish, but needs applied every 3-6 months, and requires a bit more tlc when washing.
The ceramic coating is more if you use the car as a daily driver and have it washed regularly - the ceramic coating helps protect from 'swirling' and to a certain degree minor chips/scratching. The latter keeps the car looking good with a quick wash regularly.

Have no experience of actual protective 'film's, though would appreciate your feedback if you go down this route on how it works.

Detailing is always a bit of a minefield with many opinions on differing products, techniques etc. The perceived wisdom from those "in the know" seems to be Gtechniq is the preferred system nowadays - but needs application by an approved contractor for best results.

I'm not a great polisher myself, but admit detailing does seem to preserve the paint lustre for longer and makes cleaning the vehicle much easier as fly squash, dust and dirt all just seem to wash off. I thought removing the wheels to treat inside the rims was bit OTT, but even this works well when cleaning. [:)]

I'd really appreciate that..and from you other guys who are getting your car imminently. Mine is being built next month and hope to have it early May
 
I would like to echo that, I have today had a confirmed completion date of 7 July, so would love to see photos and hear what you all think of your cars. Right now I am excited, but those of you whose delivery is imminent must be super excited! Enjoy your special days and please keep me occupied with how you are getting on.
 
Thanks for the tip around the swissvax as just take that as part of the extras when buying a car as they always give you a "deal".

still umming and ahhring as the cost after the purchase of the car is stinging just a touch as the best quote so far is £2k plus vat plus another £500 for prep, and that's just the front and side sills of the car.

With that being said, when I returned my previous car, the first question I was asked was "will I need to paint the front of the car". With stone chips being inevitable and present the answer was of course yes. So I guess in some way, I will be paying something for either front end protection or front end repair. Do I pay up front at a known and fixed cost, or do I pay an unknown cost the back end when I return the car.

Regarding Gtechniq, my dealer has recommended that to me over the swissvax through a Gtechniq specialist local to them at around £400-500, which is a lot easier to swallow and Gtechniq seems to be quite well known, etc. They'll even get the car there and back before I take delivery.

Thank you for the responses, if anyone does have any experience with paint protection film and whether its worth the cost, especially the financial weigh up when returning the car, as that quoted figure is lots of petrol, tyres, trackdays, petrol etc, and I'm sure I now owe my other half a holiday.

I've always taken the view the expensive initial cost of the film is more than a later paint repair. Also, whilst you do get protection from stone chips, repairs to scrapes etc is likely to be a lot more costly as both paintwork and film will need to be replaced.

With regard to film I have had 4 cars covered mainly because I hate looking at my car covered in road rash.
If you don't wrap the car you will get stone chips, particularly if you go on organised road trips and you could respray every year to keep the car top notch.
The film does help and pretty much keeps the car clean and new looking but large stones can puncture the film.
Paintshield will give a guarantee and will change a film even if it is damage by a stone. I have had the bonnet film replaced once in the past.
I have had 3 done by Paintshield and the latest by Topaz.
It is expensive but it does keep your car looking nice and it really needs doing when the car is new / resprayed to get the full benefit.
Topaz get a lot of very good reports and are in London which may help you although they came to the OPC to do mine.
Both do a good job.
My Topaz wrap is a recent job and cost me £2k + vat for a full front end + rear wing.

Have had a brief but decent run in the car so far and am amazed at just how different the car drives from my C4S (which I loved...). I had driven a few GT3/RS cars which I enjoy - but were just too hardcore for me - and this bridges the gap perfectly. Feels much more connected and raw than the C4S, and on reflection now makes the C4S feel like more of a grand tourer, where this feels like a luxurious sports car. Emphasis on the luxurious as while it's very involving to drive, not at the expense of comfort - which is a must for me. Car not used as daily driver - but in addition to Sunday runs/playtime - I do like taking the kids to school of a sunny day, and my wife and I love using it for weekends away etc, and for this it's perfect.

What really surprised me was the noise - after reading lots about the lack of character compared to the naturally aspirated 991 - whatever they have done with the GTS has more than compensated, the noises are fabulous. Excellent howl with great overrun and burble from sports mode exhaust (my youngest got a fright when we started it and told me it's too loud....job done :)

Looking forward to getting to know it and get more comfortable with it, but for those of you who have one coming you are in for a real treat, amazing machine.

Having traded in my 991.1 4GTS I do miss the roar of the 991 .1 GTS. I suppose it is a matter of getting used to. Otherwise the car is excellent. Have been studying the PCM, the Porsche connect and the Porsche car connect. Getting there.
I was expecting more of a turn with the rear wheel steering. I hardly notice any movement.
I hope it is working.

Yours looks lovely, must be one of the first 4GTS.

Well it's only 2.8 degrees max under 30mph and 1.5 degrees max over 50 so not exactly a massive movement! If you dip the wing mirror so you can see the rear wheel and then turn on full lock you will see it.[:)]

On my test drive I could really feel it at slow tight turns in towns (at slow speed), less so out on the road.
