991.2 GTS

I am considering choosing Isofix kit on the front passenger seat - purely to get the airbag switch as I may sometimes wish to have a child passenger (in an appropriate seat/booster of course). Could anyone help by telling me what is the extent of the backrest tilt restrictions that's mentioned on the configurator - how much does it restrict the backrest please?

Car has now landed. Unable to take delivery for a couple of weeks, due to works being carried out at home. Went and saw the car today at the dealer. Grinning from ear to ear.

Have been unable to post pics, but have made a quick youtube video.

Please excuse the lack of any skills around cameras and audio. Cue the cheesy music!!!

It's great news to see these cars arriving and just wondered has anyone had news of a Targa GTS delivery yet ?, mines an April build with early May delivery and I just hope it's on time.
On another note are there any Silverstone days announced for these cars ?.

I've had my Silverstone invitation a couple of days ago and I know the OP (John) has got his too, but neither of us is getting a Targa.

Hi there were 2 GTS targas waiting to be collected at the dealer over the weekend, so they're here.

You can notice a silver gts targa to the to the front and right of my car, in from not the black Cayman

I have also, received the Silverstone day. Would be great to get a date and get together for that. What do people think?

I've got a mid June build with delivery at dealer by end of June for Targa GTS. Surprised and pleased to see so many GT Silver cars being ordered. I've going to have the back window tinted out for privacy and to give the appearance of top section of car which is mainly dark floating over the silver of the body. Porsche don't offer privacy glass on Targa but as the window gets to the mid point in the mechanical movement of retracting the "tinters" (not sure collective terms for that profession) can get great access to do a good job right into the corners. Spec wise GT Silver, PDK, steering plus (No RWS), GTS alcantara package, park assist with camera, cruise control, auto dimming mirrors with rain sensor, heated multi function steering wheel, interior carbon package,, silver grey belts. I got extension on lock down date on spec so has anyone got good insight into speed limit display and RWS. On the former I like notion of it but it would take up valuable dash space when on. RWS, i drove test car with and without, couldn't feel difference. Forgot to add Bose sound but that's in there also.

I wish on the targa the model lettering etc on rear could simply read Targa 4 GTS or Targa GTS instead of the 911 Targa 4 GTS with PORSCHE above it, its a bit loud and unrequired. Id ideally have 911 on top line then Targa 4 GTS below and leave off the large Porsche label.

I have to agree with you on that, and I have discussed having the lettering taking off and centered without the 911, we will have to look once it's here.

Totally agree. I asked if I could have just GTS much like the GT3. I should have asked though at purchase, see if it coils be done in the factory. Dealer refuses to do it for me, I guess he's seen some horror stories

Good luck with collection, do me a favor And ask your sales chap under what conditions do or should the rear brake lights flash . Under heavy breaking I think they blink quickly but not sure the criteria that triggers that. Great function especially given how quick they can stop relative to cars traveling behind .

It's a new safety feature alerting vehicles behind that the car in front is emergency braking.

Clive

Thanks Clive, don't suppose you know precise trigger criteria? Is it above a certain speed or break pressure applied?

Hi

Sorry but only just seen your message. As far as I am aware the flashing lights including the hazard indicators are triggered once maximum braking pressure is applied.

I don't know for sure, but assume it would be calibrated on hydraulic brake pressure since emergency braking can happen at any speed.

Clive

Thanks Clive, a while back you talked about ppf (paint protection film) and your having it applied on several cars. I've got a gts targa coming in June I've decided to go for sending the car for full New car prep/detail, gtechniq wheels windows etc but also get ppf onto the car to protect against stone chips etc. my question is where to put it, I reckon front end but only up half bonnet height , where on sides, rear arches and rear would you get done? Do you think low behind rear wheels worth doing?

Regards

I would suggest having the whole front done otherwise you will see a line half way up the bonnet where the film ends. I have had film applied on several of my cars and think it very worthwhile especially on a brand new one.

I think your right, the shop I'm considering is able to show me a screen shot of the cut out patterns for the various sections their suggesting, the one attached is a sample from a GT3 RS.

Not connected in any way to the last post of mine but I was interested to see the following emerge from Sport Auto's supertest which this year featured a 991.2 GTS. For those not familiar with the sport auto supertest its worth reading about it here, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sport_auto_(Germany) its fair to say that in Germany this independent testing of cars each year is taken quite seriously. This is the link to the actual ring footage for the GTS. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mRMJfjhVFBQ What I found more than interesting was the car absent of manufacturers mechanics etc posted a 7:24 lap. Nwo before we have a meltdown over ring times and their validity, my interest was more in the review sport auto gave the Gen 2 GTS. I'll post it below in full as I only have it via the german link so Ill cut and paste old school. Before I do, in a nutshell they say the Gen2 GTS is now way more than a decent value offering of parts that looked better than the Carrera's and went a little better. They argue that its such a weapon in performance terms now when you compare it to GT3 RS times, and even GT2 RS times of not so long ago. IN brief it not only looks great but Porsche have taken the GTS model to a new level in the Gen 2 guise. As reference to this look at these: Of course the GT3 Gen 2 has just posted 7:12, Ferrari 488 GTB 7:21, 991 GT3RS 7:28, 991 GT3 7:32 and AMG GT-R 7:10

See also the attachment for other relative times. The reason this is pleasing to me is I've always had a preference for cars with torque at lower levels of the rev range. I've always liked V8's and turbo cars or twin turbo cars. Hence I've been a late adopter of Porsche 911 cars. My current 997 GTS I like a lot but I've been using it back to back with a McLaren and I love the looks, feel of the steering etc on that GTS but my preference for torque left me wanting. So when I heard the Gen 2 GTS was coming I hoped it would provide me that performance in a 911 package minus rear wings etc and be usable each day rather than a race track looking car aka GT3 etc. base don early indicators this Gen 2 GTS could be quite the car relative to prior GTS models since 2011, all other preferences for NA engines etc being equal. Ill paste the translation of the review below.
