just passed my 10 year anniversary with my s2 in October, bought from my mate Steve Simkin whom I’m sure some of you will remember. My kids are 10 and 12 now and it’s been my only car for all that time. it’s been amazing, 100% reliable and I think driving it nearly every day must have helped with that. Apart from tyres, petrol and insurance/tax it’s cost me £7075 for those 10 years, so an absolute bargain…when people start talking to me about the cost of owning and running an old Porsche I sometimes say I can’t afford to run a modern car, just to see their reaction. Here’s hoping for another ten years.

I know Steve quite well and used to see him quite a lot, although not for a while now, I think he had a red 968 last time we met. Got my CS steering wheel off him and a set of brand spanking burgundy door cards, still not been fitted (!), amongst other things.

I bought my 944 back in 2013 from someone Steve put me in touch with (and drove me to see it), the red 968 was sold 3 or 4 years ago.

Spoke to one of the guys at JMG the other week, when looking for an ABS sensor, and we had a quick chat about the scarcity of turbo's on the road. He said it was probably because most of them were lying in their yard!

I seem to recall mention a few years back of 30+ cars in the yard at JMG, I think a few were owned by Jon himself. I wonder how many are there now?

Just thinking back to 2011 I would have been on this forum a lot but the highlight was to put faces to the names in Cirencester.

Great to see some old faces still around.
I was gutted to have to move on. Circumstances led to a complete lifestyle change, and I did move the car with me, but it's not the right thing to be driving on the Cornish lanes and it was a waste owning it. Hope it's still going, I don't really follow so much now.
The big thing for me was the complete lack of appreciation from the Club for nearly 15 years of volunteering. I'll never forgive that; not personally, as I was always above the egos, but because it discouraged new people to step up and volunteer. We committed so much to saving the Club in the dark days, all for nothing.
Whilst never an expert, I felt that 15 years of contacts and experience was worth something as a point of contact, directing owners where they could get the right help. I'm not sure the forums have improved without the old team being given a free rein, either.
I think 944s have moved on from being £1000 daily drivers by a long way now, which was my reason for owning them. Sad to see so many shut away when they are all about being driven, but that's economics. I'll always be driving something that I can fit the dogs in, and a Christmas tree or a dump run, without feeling precious. Looking at something like a Ferrari FF perhaps? [&:]

I've always had the opinion that Porsche GB have very little interest in supporting the 944/68 forum. And the cars in the UK too.

I swapped a message with Jon only last week when Davyboy spotted that it was back up for sale. Jon sold it about 18 months ago and last week it was up with a trader on Autotrader for £35k Lots of restoration work done and a 350bhp engine. I just looked on Autotrader and it's gone now.

Yes that would be me ! I moved the car on around 18 months ago. Must say I felt a pang of regret when I saw it up for sale at that dealer (and not just because of the price !) According to their website it was sold (and pretty quickly it seems) but for how much who knows ?

Had a lot of work done on the car - not just the extra booooost (375 bhp in her prime) but also suspension, brakes, bodywork etc etc but all good things come to an end and looked like the dealer sorted out the paint and some other bits and bobs too to help justify his asking price...

A dealer has G498 UDB up for £34950 on ebay now, so either it didn't sell or they have it back. Asking seems very optimistic to me.

I sold my 944 cab a few years ago having owned a few coupes. I think if I had bought another coupe I would still have it now.
Great cars and I may well buy another in the future.

I sold my 87 Sierra RS Cosworth 20 years ago, after owning it for 13 years. I'd like another Cosworth, but I wouldn't pay the money they make now.

Yes I saw it back on the Dealers site so presumably for whatever reason the sale didn't go through or as you said they have got it back. Much as I loved the car and yes they or someone have sorted the paintwork I must agree £34,950 seems well over the top. Good luck to them if they can get it !

Still got the red and black turbos,drove the black one a bit last summer ,did full maintenance and upgraded the stereo to a Blaupunkt retro unit that allows calls and iPhone music.The red one will come out this summer and I might swap the Stereo in that one when it goes in for maintenance.Using Quorn sports and classics,two techs from OPC Leicester from back in the day.Don’t race Porsches anymore although still got the 968 but that needs some work,racing in Puma Cup for past two seasons which is hardest racing I’ve ever done,and spending most of my days with middle kid helping with his football .Lovely to see some old names ,let me know if there is a meet in Rutland!
