Who's left?

Yes I remember seeing that clip on the original site - will have to search youtube and see if I can find it. [:)]

I'm still here, but then I only joined today.....couldn't see an 'introduce yourself' thread, so this seemed the best place to do so.

I'm currently getting to know an early 2.5, have already found a few pleasant surprises amongst many more I'd rather not have found.
It's now 40 years old with an MOT to November 2023, so the plan is to get it to Historic status in April as a rolling restoration.

Welcome mr PITA! Good luck with your project. I have another 7 years to go to reach the 40 mark. Should be 25 years really.

Seem to recall a guy in Ireland had a tuned ex Promax car. Only stuck in my mind because it supposedly had around 420 bhp and was white.

Still drop in from time to time. Still got my high compression 3litre turbo that should have detonated to bits ten years ago apparently. The paintwork is still shit.

I think the 8V heads combustion chamber is around 20cc larger than the 16V heads combustion chamber, not sure how much that would drop the compression ratio? Weren't you thinking about some piston/turbo mods a while back James0?

Hi Paul, yeah, I did calculate it a while back, can't remember the numbers but yes the 8 valve head does drop the CR slightly. Ultimately I like the power level (whatever it is) and response off boost.
1bar with a k27/8.
It gets me to MTB races around the country reliably, pulling it apart and messing with pistons might change that and any spending would be better aimed at the rest of the car.

It says I've been here 17 years, not idea it was that long. I'm not around nearly as much as I used to be but the car is still out most days, including today.
Always some to do but it's a pretty solid thing these days.
I recall Jon saying he was looking to move his on, no idea you had Jon. If I'm your way there's nothing to look for now!

I doubt many are used daily now. I'd soon fall out of love with my turbo, if I used it on anything but a dry B road.

Mine still a daily. Wasn't building a fresh engine to put in an ornament! I've put 70k miles onto what was a sub 100k turbo when I bought it. Not stopping anytime soon!

As an aside to that, my car hated being off the road for a year. The amount of gremlins I had that weren't present when it was laid up is proof they don't like inactivity, well for me anyway. They are all sorted now. Radiator, turbo water pump, fuel pump (wiring, not pump, it turned out), starter motor, noisy seatbelt, noisy rear wiper, some lights not working, a speaker wasn't working, indicators stopped working, an air hose perished, battery chucked it. I think the oil pressure sender was gubbed beforehand, won't mention that again! :ROFLMAO:

Maybe some of the stuff was ready to chuck it, but being laid up was the final straw it seems!

Mine has never been a town car, and pretty much every time it came out of the garage, it did 80 miles plus. Always had a litre sports bike, and a couple of other cars for the everyday stuff.

Not racing, but I used to do 3 laps of Grafham Water 2 or 3 times a week before I moved house. Need to find somewhere up here to get back into it.

I bought a Boxster 987S last summer and sold my S2 a couple of weeks later when I realised I’d probably not use it again.

Considering I bought it as a cheap second car in 2013 thinking it would last me a year it turned out to be great fun and value for money. In over 8 years it never broke down although I did eventually have to replace both sills.

I've no idea how to do quotes here.
Where did you move to? There's usually somewhere worth riding.

For my 2nd 25th birthday I'm planning on doing an event called Megavalanche. Basically a mass start downhill race in Alpe duez, starting on a ski slope, I've done it a few times in the last decade. I'd love to take the turbo but I'm not sure I fancy 12 hours each way in it, plus the fuel cost.

I'm just north of Boston now. Anglian Water shut down Grafham Water during covid, which was a p***er as I was a 10 minute ride away then. The little hills around Grafham suited me [:D]. I don't like riding on the road, so that probably limits my options around here.

I don't know that area well.
Hate the roads myself. From here, despite being a town I can use mostly cycle paths to get to bridleways off into the Chilterns.

I think you are between two bridges I used to look after the suppression systems on.
Sutton Swing Bridge and Humber Bridge.

I looked at a house in Sutton Bridge a few years ago, it felt like the middle of nowhere though. There's cycle path called the Water Rail Way that runs along the Witham between Boston and Lincoln. I'll give that a try when it warms up a bit.

I still have a wee look once in a while. I used to be one here all the time. I kind of miss the old forum sometimes.

just passed my 10 year anniversary with my s2 in October, bought from my mate Steve Simkin whom I’m sure some of you will remember. My kids are 10 and 12 now and it’s been my only car for all that time. it’s been amazing, 100% reliable and I think driving it nearly every day must have helped with that. Apart from tyres, petrol and insurance/tax it’s cost me £7075 for those 10 years, so an absolute bargain…when people start talking to me about the cost of owning and running an old Porsche I sometimes say I can’t afford to run a modern car, just to see their reaction. Here’s hoping for another ten years.
