White Silverrose 944 turbo

Hi Eddie, welcome back.

I remember Rich Salmons picked up a rusty Silver Rose from somewhere up north but then quickly sold it to Mark K which was converted into a monster race car and sprayed blue. Not sure if it's the same one (or even if my memory is failing me [;)] )

I remember one being sold at well under it's worth, because a flipper had assured the seller they intended to restore and keep it....

Could it have gone to Alasdair (sulzeruk)? he was in scotland and was buying up a lot of cars around that time. I had a feeling Mark K's was Rose silver coloured but I don't think I saw it before it was blue so I don't know why!

You aren't far from me Eddie I live within walking distance (ish) of Shelsley Walsh - went to the Porsche day at Prescott and recently Super Car Fest at Shelsley

Do you still have the Xmas bar lunch... the New Inn Heckfield? Wonder how many of the ex titanic member would muster now?
Eddie
We haven't been for a good few years - fewer and fewer cars get year round use these days,

The Cayman I bought was sold to the PO by Williams Crawford in Plymouth and has done less than 2000 miles since they did a major engine overhaul... seals, bearings, clutch and Dual mass flywheel. So I've been as careful as I can... Guards Red... Black wheels. Red Calipers Registration EIB CAY. I've moved to near Tewkesbury if any of you are around JCN 9 on M5
The car was originally owned by Porsche Reading so has a number of desirable extras like colour coded tunnel Drives like a dream!
Eddie

Eddie,

I live in Tewkesbury, so will keep an eye out for you. If you see someone in a basalt black Cayman S, reg NC10 UWR, it'll be me.

Cheers,
Bryan

Hi Bryan, I'm actually in Kinsham a 'suburb' of Bredon. No Pub , No shop but we do have a postbox and a defibrillator! for such a small place we do have good sprinkling of 'interesting' vehicles/ a Split screen Minor, MGA 2 x MGB, I've got a 54 MG TF., There's also a 996 an i8 and i3 plus one of those very special tuned Merc... who's name escapes me... not AMG. There's also a very rare Ural bike and sidecar LHD so illegal in UK

Alasdair, bought Steve Cox's Silverose and broke it as it was fairly rotten, remember going to Porsch A Part now 9 apart, Simon was breaking a minty 23k Silverose which the previous owner had tried to drive through a 5ft gap, pushing both front and back wings in.

He actually went someway down the road of fixing it and had done sills and a few other things before it took a backseat and was sold on. He never broke it although I did get the burgundy CS steering wheel from it eventually. Steve Simkin bought that and I then got it from him. A bargain at £150!

Yeah the 944 scene and in particular the turbo scene was quite healthy back then in Scotland. Big loss when Alasdair gave it up and haven't heard from Steve in ages. IT's pretty much just me and Roy now up here with a turbo that I know of and the 2 cars couldn't be more different!

Steve appeared on 911Uk recently, so still knocking around the Porsche world.. Eddie I remember your white turbo, can't say I've seen it since.

A dealer up there with a few names mopped up a lot of cars for a while.
That's true. Was posting in here for a while. I never knew any of the cars he washed before tripling the price........modern classics I believe.

If that was the name then check out the Independent Dealer Review section on 911uk - quite some horror stories about modern classic - selling cars on SOR and various people not seeing their money....

I think he/they went under 3 or 4 different names. Claimed his Father/Brother was involved etc. Someone could take good, selective photos though.

Yes, I was trying to think of the guy who had the Silverrose that latterly he couldn't afford to tax... Steve Cox I think. he was a big lad if I remember correctly and through his TIPEC connections organised the Silverrose day.
Does anyone remember the Great Andover polish? I've still got the write up that we put on the forum. We met at Antons house in Andover to compare about 10 different polishes. Apart from his white Cab, Anton had an old Jag and a pretty up to date Merc 500 saloon which had double glazed windows which he thought was ideal for listening to the Opera! Sadly he died soon after that and a number of us attended the funeral in Basingstoke
By the way there was a white S2 Cab for sale at the Tewkesbury classic car show on Sunday £11250 I think

Steve found my S2 for me over 6 years ago and we went to see Alasdair for some parts the same day, I’ve still got the car and bought a replacement clock from Alasdair a few weeks ago.

Yeah he still sells the clock kits but not much else. He has his own bike racing team now and they finished 4th overall at the TT last year. Alasdair Cowan Racing. Still chat with him now and then.
