What did you do with your 996 today?

At the weekend mainly putting things back together in the rear wheel arches. A two stage Dimitrol treatment to neutralise and prime rust, followed by wax sealant in both wheel wells. The end sill trim was cleaned and renovated, but thinking of replacing both sides after 16 years of use shows. A new rubber lip in needed on osr - oem part to be ordered. The lower braces have cleaned up well - the two inclined made from steel were shot blasted and powder coated, whilst the aluminum brace polished with some wire wool and autosolve - see photo. All laquered for final protection.

Noticed you got a pioneer set where did you get the fascia surround all the ones I see there for none cup holder models only.

Hi Pieman

ive got the same pioneer set up - it's the connects 2 fascia and although it says for use without cupholders it still fits ones with them.

Yeah fitted it myself, pretty easy to do even with no knowledge or idea what you're doing...the only help I needed was to borrow the stereo keys from halfords to pull the nav drive out.

theres a good thread going on 911uk called double din fascia which has got pretty much all info you need on the pioneer unit and fitting it.

Thanks Leon found the fascia. Did you get conversion wiring or did the wires fit like for like. I have a amp in the boot also a 6 disc CD player also in the boot I take it this then all goes redundant and the pioneer takes over. Thanks again

im sure there's a more technical way of explaining this...I have the BOSE system so also not sure how transferable this is.

i had two 8 wire plugs that went into the PcM1 unit...and believe these were the speaker channels and they plug straight into the pioneer unit.

there was then a 12 pin plug which was colour coded and provided power and all other signals like speed, time etc and there's only one wire here that you need and that's the 12v power - I bought a standard harness from halfords, removed all the wires apart from the one I needed and it worked perfectly.

In this picture the black/brown wire at the front of the yellow plug is the power so that's the only one you need from that plug, then the two black connectors below it are also needed. (this is the back of the pcm1 btw)

Thanks to my favourite book: [link=http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/ShopCart/BOOK/POR_BOOK_bkdemp_pg2.htm]http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/ShopCart/BOOK/POR_BOOK_bkdemp_pg2.htm[/link]

Managed to save a ton of cash and spend a couple of enjoyable days learning all about changing over suspension units.

Cost savings allowed me to go just a little bit nuts on the hardware :) Obviously not brand-new, but very close!

Might be some M030 Springs and dampers for sale very soon!

Where did you get your mats Pieman? Is the pile good quality? It's on my shopping list of things to get.

@jagdhamster be interested to know more about the dampers and if this improves M030 setup

Hi wibble I got em from design911 you can design them yourself with different colours, logos. The piles alright I think not like the original but I think there fine set of 4 £118.

Hi Wibble,

If it doesn't improve the M030 I will be pretty annoyed - even second-hand Exe-tc stuff is not cheap :)

Just fine-tuning the ride-height at the moment, but she should sit at GT3 height.

Will get car aligned next week and let you know [;)]

Bought a new water pump with an upgraded metal impeller from 9 Apart and a Wahler lower temp thermostat.
