Thanks Pete, I've had 3 of them, all from new, going back to 2013. I might buy another one of these next, just to stick in the conservatory, and look at.

Got the correct windscreen fitted finally to the 944 Turbo with top tint, and it was fitted properly as well unlike the previous attempt (it wasn't flush with the bodywork).


 
I think I've only had one new screen fitted, that was on my old BMW 328 Coupe. The fitter had to call for backup to get the old one out. I still tense up a bit when I hear stones hit my screen.

They aren't cheap and I didn't do it through the insurance as it was my mistake.

The fitters had the old screen out pretty quickly and in one-piece apart from the aerial cable which they cut. They did comment that they thought the original screen hadn't been fitted properly as they thought it was slightly loose!

The screen on my 328 was due for replacement due a small crack . I was cleaning the inside of it one day, and bumped the rear view mirror with my head. That caused a surprisingly big crack to appear.

That did cross my mind that I could have had an accident with it but then I would have had to go through the insurance, this way I got the correct screen from the dealer myself and was able to choose the fitter.
 
Finally got around to replacing the door check straps with new ones that I purchased a couple of years ago. Made a world of difference! The drivers door was the worse and there was no firm stop or hold left on the old strap, it was so bad that the door could open so far as to hit the edge of the front wing. The new straps have a firm hold position and don't let the door open as far.
