what did you do to your 944 today

it’s gonna look superb especially in black with chrome deep dish … so looking forward to seeing this

so i’m interested in how you planned the gaps to be simetrical to operate side … did you plan that the middle at widest point would be 28mm and have measurements along the cut line at different taper widths going to a point and transfers that to a piece of sheet metal and duplicate to the other side .,,

or did you make the cut line pull out to 28mm in centre point and just measure the tapers and make a template and duplicate for the operaite side ?

i have another big question i’d love to ask about how youll keep a smooth transition on a few joining parts , but it’s just too complicated to type

admire this effort

Nice ear ring, is that one of the newer Dansk versions, what discs are you using?

Yes, they’re actually Big Black reps so the bleed nipples and balance pipe are in the right place. 965 part number discs.
As there is minimal clearance between my caliper, and the inside of my wheel, I may not be able to use the replicas, without spacers. Are your new calipers wider than the originals?

nothing technical measured from back of arch to front edge added 28mm cut a piece of wood and wedged it in after panel was cut and packed all gaps to 28mm to maintain the original shape.

a bit of hammer work to align the cut edges and hold in place with skin pins -but I'm moving it so little it doesn't take much skill to get it right.

made a cardboard template to check each side that was it -so far its been drama free.

brought a welder on eBay watched a few videos all good -I'm not looking forward to welding upside-down on the inner rear wheel arches that may take some practice.

the hardest thing is the first cut []putting an angle grinder through the your car not really knowing what was going to happen[:(] but after the first cut it was Texas chainsaw massacre all-over again:ROFLMAO:

You’ll be fine then - I just had the calipers out and from the mounting holes to the outer edge of the body of the brake caliper itself the Big Red/Blacks are actually narrower than the Medium Blacks.

Thanks. It seems for non MO30 uprates, what's required are the big red replica calipers, adapters and 965 discs. The discs seem to be £220+ each though, and it looks like a dedicated banjo/bolt and brake line is required for the caliper. Where did you buy the discs from?

Brake line is just the same fitting as the one on the Goodridge braided lines I already have but I don‘t know if the non-M030 setup is different. Discs are the same as the 928 GTS ones (they’re solid whereas the 965 ones are drilled). I got the lot from D911 as a kit built then removed the items I didn’t need.

If coming from a non-M030 setup then there are various other options available too, including 996/997/Cayenne brakes. Or buy some M030 adapters and find someone selling a pair of refurbed M030 calipers with nearly new discs and pads [;)]

Bought the car like it, looks like the previous owner must have hit or ground out the car, and pushed the gearbox into the tank, the fuel sender was also bent, hence why my tank was never reading properly. Now just to put the gearbox back in!!!

Another possibilty is a vapour lock but not heard of it happening to a 944, other cars yes.. blocked vent causes a vacuum and air pressure does the rest..🙂

Pete

Yes I had vapour lock on a MK 1V Cortina (not my choice.. company car). Hadn't a clue why the car stopped as the gauge was reading half full. The car was about 6 months old.. hadn't changed the filler cap or anything..

These were modified by me Pete. They're 2mm wall, steel square tube with a plastic cladding. The front brace seems a lot sturdier than the original KLA alloy tube, though I haven't tested it yet. Same with the rear brace, but the roads are filthy here at the moment, so I haven't had a chance to take the car out for weeks.
