What boost do you run?

Hi All

Car all up & running now with Boost set at 0.75 bar & Duty set at 80% on the Apexi AVC-R, what can i safely increase this to with my setup (see signuture) ??!!!

Depends really on how your DME is setup. I expect you will be OK for 1-1.2 bar. Promax chips should be setup fine for that kind of boost level but I wouldn't go any higher.
 
How old is your hg and are you still running standard injectors? really you need an air fuel meter to be safe / tell if you are running rich / lean, alternatively a few dyno runs should help you set a safe level. I think the sci-vision was developed as a direct replacement for the AFM (though less restrictive) and the promax chips with 3 bar FPR for a max of 18psi.

I'm running 19 psi with an MBC and a SciVision MAF and Promax chips, boost peels off a fraction towards red line due to MBC but the fuelling is spot on for 19psi when it peaks hitting low 12's on my AFR guage. Make sure you have the chips set for 18psi, DPW and they will be fine. Andy at Promax said they would cope with 20psi no bother on that map but if your HG is not fresh I wouldn't go that far up the boost scale especially with a DPW. I toasted my old HG and turbo at the same time shortly after going DPW. Old HG was less then 10 years old as well.

Was a good excuse to rebuild the turbo to a better spec and completely refresh my top and bottom end though!

Pulled 330bhp peak, its a K26/6 hybrid basically the K26/6 hot housing with a bigger compressor. Theres probably another 10-15bhp in there with some more advance but I was running standard octane on the day. I rekon even more with a bigger exhaust. Need to have a play with the cam timing as well and get wasted spark fitted. Wonder if 350bhp mark could be broken.
 
1,2bar (which would read 2.2bar on the dash if it were calibrated to that level)

I think we have all been messing with turbo's and waste-gates when the motronic and spark (and maybe cam) were the real problem...

Congrats Tom, these are great results with the small turbine, but did you measure back pressure?
 
Thanks guys. Didn't do any back pressure measurement right now, just exhaust gas temperature. I went out tonight and did some ignition mapping, added a couple of degrees on. What a difference, damn. She holds about 1 bar at 6000rpm.

Bit over my head Tom, but looks like 17 seconds of data covering 1st gear then under hard acceleration 2nd, 3rd, 4th gears. For the first 8 seconds the intake temp drops from about 28deg C to 22, and then rises to 38deg over the following 8 seconds. Then over the following period it drops back quite rapidly.

When you say added a couple of degrees on, is that advance added?

Interesting stuff as usual.

Before the throttle is being opened "wide enough" inlet air was not flowing fast enough to avoid heat soak from the intake manifold, and temperature increased to 28°C.
Then the throttle is opened "wide enough", which increases the speed of inlet air, and the incoming air is fresher, until...

Hot compressed air goes back into the turbo inlet through the recirculating valve as the throttle is being closed.
