Agreed about the numpty in the BMW, and there was a banzai move by an Elise under braking which could have been interesting if I hadn't seen him [8|]. Other than that the standard of driving seemed pretty good and it was rarely busy out there. Did get black flagged for the very first time, thought it was because I was making the occasional white smoke screen on gear changes, but turned out it they'd confused me with another white 944, which was a relief!
Just need to wash about a million bugs off the front now (I don't think it's very aerodynamic [

For future reference: you can make a quick camera mount using a cheap suction gripper...
Good call cheers for that. I can picture exactly what you mean. I think I'll try it and if I get told to take it off, well I haven't lost much.

Bozo of the day prize goes to a white cabrio beemer. Yes mate, you're lightning down the straights..and I'm no expert at this myself, but I understand you only need to brake once for each corner.
Ha ha I'd forgotten about that guy. What was he doing, I wasn't sure whether it was some feature of the car? He seemed to be doing it on every bend, he also refused to pull in to let me past! (not that it stopped me[
Food and service at the Green man was excellent. I was really impressed after I'd heard mixed reports. They even served us after the kitchen was officially closed which is the kind of customer service that simply doesn't happen in England anymore. I was very impressed.
On track. What a circuit! Sooo much to learn with Silverstone compared to Snetterton (my only other experience). I think I will definitely enjoy it a lot more next time (and there will be a next time). I feel like I only found a line around 50% of the circuit.
I didn't like going home in an AA truck but the car was awesome until the failure (which I will know the details of later today). the only weakness was Simon P's turbo really showed me how bad my brakes were! The difference in confidence was 400%. He could stab them hard late and kill the majority of the speed instantly before easing off for the rest of the braking zone. I started braking at about the same point but was pumping the pedal, pressing as hard as I could from the first second and holding until I didn't dare brake any longer without causing a spin (almost did several times) before lifting off and still braking lightly to the apex of tight bends. It was literally the only way to lose enough speed by the time I hit the apex to stop me understeering straight on. When I came off the track there was visable smoke coming off my front disks and that was after a cool down period! The 996 is definitely a heavy car. (I was also hitting 144-145mph consistently on Hanger straight, which might have had something to do with it)
All asside though it was a great evening. Really good to see old the old faces and cheers v.much Simon for taking me out for a few laps. Was a lot of fun and really showed up a couple of corners where I need a lot more laps to get a line like that.
If it wasn't for work I think I would have hung around for another day and joined in, may do this next year if I still have the 944.

Ohh yeahseriously looking foreward to it now. Just trying to figure out how I can mount my video camera?! I have no mount.. And it's not a fancy small cam need to fix it somehow[>:]
For future reference: you can make a quick camera mount using a cheap suction gripper (usually sold at better pound shops and at wholesalers as either a dent puller or a glass carrier) and, if you like/need, a pound shop mini tripod. The tripods are rubbish, of course, but you only need the screw: which you mount through one of the sucker handles. No two items are similar, so its hard to be more precise, but when you have the parts in front of you, for about £2 [], itll all become clear - you may need Araldite too.
Itll only mount onto the side window of course, but the one I made was just as secure and reliable as a good B-Hague suction mount; and more reliable that a professional windscreen mount! (B-Hague clicky link - theyve got everything that you need, but it all costs more than £2!)
Simon
Good tip but goldtrack exclude suction mounts for camcorders - I have got away with a bullet cam on a suction mount in the rear window with a tether.
Just use the Windows Live Movie Maker - works fine and is free.

I am booked on to the evening session at Donnington next Monday if anyone is interested. Its a CircuitDays job, £129. Will be my first ever time on that track so really looking forward to it.
BTW Ben those are seriously high speeds your getting to on Hanger and that is a lot of speed to scrub off for Stowe. I can't remember what my corner speed is there but it would be 70 something with the lowest speed before the apex braking from something like 127, so maybe a 55 something mph stop which in your car is more like a 75 something mph stop. That is a very big difference so its no wonder your brakes are cooking.

It was, in sharp contrast to the last time. Perhaps it had something to do with the absense of the pretty, but very stroppy, girl who was running the bar alone last time. She took an instant dislike to us for arriving in a pub, early in the evening, and wanting one drink and a barsnack each. What were we thinking!

Good to see everyone. [

30th August would be good for me - gives me time to fit some new brakes and tyres. Starting to think I might like some more track-focussed rubber, though a quick look at blackcircles etc suggests 888s are in short supply. Will need to see what alternatives are available.
There's no substitute for power! Even flooring it out of Chapel, the most I could get before braking for Stowe was 120!ORIGINAL: DivineE

You might need to look into improving the cooling and perhaps change to a more track-oriented fluid like Castrol SRF. Check your cross-drill holes are clear too. When I came off the track there was visable smoke coming off my front disks and that was after a cool down period!

Quite like the new one (AVS video editor) so far and haven't always got on well with earlier versions of Windows movie maker, I read that live had stripped some of the features as well. Main reason for not using live was the camera creates .mov so I would have to convert first.ORIGINAL: A9XXC
Great clip Tony.
Just use the Windows Live Movie Maker - works fine and is free.
Had got the laps with simon cut out and left uploading in higher quality - think the connection may have failed and not in the office tomorrow morning. [
No its finished uploading
