Not only did I notice the shortcuts you took I deliberately took the correct long route!!!!

Thanks v.much for the pics!
Saddly this is what I've come to expect now. Bar/shop staff are generally insulted you are distracting them from their daily gossip by giving them your business.
I would love to know what that 720hp GT2 was doing at the end of the straights?! Was that yours Alex? It looked a like it was doing an easy 10-15mph faster than me not even at the end of the straight!
p.s. Alex if that was you I would have loved to chase you for longer but I couldn't safely get past that last car (without being black flagged) before the bends and he was pootling round at about 30mph. By the time I got onto the next straight you were so far gone I pitted[&o]
As for my car SUPERB news, how could I have questioned Porsche reliability[
]. It seems the idiots who did the black wheels on my car also painted the contact surfaces. Brakes got hot, paint melted, clamping pressure came off the wheel nuts and the wheels started to undo themselves! Turns out they were loose by 2mm when I pulled in! The clunking and grinding was wobbly wheels[
]
However the car has been checked on the ramps and no permenent harm was done so no bill to pay[
][
] Bring on the next track day.
p.p.s cheers v.much for tips on the brakes but I'm almost certainly moving to hybrid turbos at some point and power will go up again. Consequently I'm booked in in the next couple of weeks for the tried and tested Brembo 6-pot conversion, solid floating P(something) disks and track R(something) pads. A lot of 996t guys use this and apparently it is worlds apart from the standard setup. Seems sensible not to skimp on brakes if I'm doing the power.

It was, in sharp contrast to the last time. Perhaps it had something to do with the absense of the pretty, but very stroppy, girl who was running the bar alone last time. She took an instant dislike to us for arriving in a pub, early in the evening, and wanting one drink and a barsnack each. What were we thinking!

There's no substitute for power! Even flooring it out of Chapel, the most I could get before braking for Stowe was 120!
You might need to look into improving the cooling and perhaps change to a more track-oriented fluid like Castrol SRF. Check your cross-drill holes are clear too.

Great news Ben!
Love it when the horrible noise is an quick an cheap fix.
I had a Lancia HPE 2000ie known for there appetite for wheel bearings, started making rumbling sounds, bought a bearing, jacked it up and nuts were have undone.
Next time will try to get more pics.

I'm very relieved as much for my confidence in the car as anything else. It's nice to know I'm not over stressing it.
You're welcome to come out for some passenger laps next time. I was going to start offering once I knew my way around the circuit a bit but I didn't quite get enough laps to find a groove.
Next time.

Blooming heck, I got the following out of my S2 race car and have been reliably informed its bang on the available indicated pace for such a car;
Hanger Straight - just under 130 something like 127/128
New Pit Straight - not much over 100 can't remember but I can believe now that its a flat out corner in a 2.5 or 2.7 race car as the corner speed is about 90
Wellington Straight - just touching under 125
Old Pit straight - just over 120
You guys with that sort of straight line speed are going to need seriously good brakes. I know when I am going quick I have to grab 5th just as the car straightens up coming out of Woodcote, yet as you can see the car only gains another few mph all the way up to Copse.

As it was my first time in the dry on the new circuit I was wondering whether other people find that they are now using the astro turf on the run offs occasionally? Watching my vids back last night I realised I was on it quite a few times at Stowe and the new pit straight (although I was rather careful at the latter for obvious reasons). Undoubtedly quicker than when the outside of Stowe was concrete and grass, but it takes a lot of the finesse out of the task and doesn't reward cornering the way it used to. To me this is arguably a greater loss than losing Bridge as it has changed the way you can attack the track and now suits a more yobbish 'throw it in and you'll get round somehow' mentality.
Or was it just me? [

Shows the revs and ratio differences. I don't even make 5th on the old pits straight, having taken both Brooklands and Luffield in 3rd, 4th as Woodcote straightens, foot to the floor, lift off and maybe just a dab of brakes (for self-reassurance!) into Copse. Your terminal speeds are higher than mine though.ORIGINAL: Neil Haughey

Not if I can avoid it! Did venture there a couple of times coming out of Aintree but there's a square manhole cover just off the stripes that I didn't like the look of.ORIGINAL: Peter Empson

Peter we got a big telling off in our drivers briefing last year before the race about going wide at Copse. The usual stuff repeat offenders will get black flagged etc. etc. Ever since they put that astro stuff down it has become common to occasionally over cook it and run out there, seen it a lot in qualifying and I bet its been the same in pretty much every clud racing series / championship.
There is one patch I like the look of though and its coming out of Luffield, its wide enough to stick most of the car over the kerb which would help no end to allow for much more attack and earlier throttle which could make up a lot of time from that section. Haven't tried it yet though as I don't know how my car will handle the kerbs so its one of those best leave it for a test session or qualifying jobs.
Stowe of course is another, I guess for those racing its a welcome addition as it means one can turn in a bit early on a shallow defensive line yet still get on it on the way out. I still reckon its much faster though to take a very late wide entry as is the classic racing line there.

Nice vid - funny seeing the circuit roads and surrounds so quiet and empty after the hordes at the Classic !

That's the one that gets me most! Standing on the pit wall seeing you come past there. It really is some peice of kit! Sounds like pure violence under power and then stands on its nose coming into the corner.
I'm totally rubish at names but looked it up on a map, the place I struggled most umder brakes was coming into village. With a bit of bravery I could stay flat out from abbey and just get into the 120's before hitting the brakes. Losing the speed afterwards though was a real struggle!
Wasn't using the run offs but was still quite rusty and could have gone much faster in some of the corners (Abbey and Copse) and tend to be too fast in Beckets meaning I am slower onto the hanger straight than I have been in the past, I think my max was an indicatad 135 and I know I have hit 145+ before - my engine is down on power as though and the 145 might have been on slicks.
Got another vid uploading to youtube a lap with the silver 911 getting squirelly at Vale
I'm good at the corner names when they are written down in front of me
That GT2 is FAST!

I did enjoy that first long clip. Your car looked stupidly quick! It looked like you were just idling amd occasionally toeing the throttle pedal to follow simon but in Simon's car it felt really strong on the straights.

Funny that, its always the corners I don't expect to have an issue with that I end up having as issue with. For me its club 1 or whatever its called now, the slow left hander after Stowe. Its for the same reasons as you in that when I was going quicker I was carryinig so much speed out of Stowe. I can also blame rFactor and iRacing though as I had driven the 2 variations of GP circuit about 200 laps and tended to brake at a point related to the dip in the track. I guess this became preprogrammed into my mind and is simply to late in my real car to be able to make the apex neatly.
You guys with your super high speeds on the straights are making me jealous for a turbo motor, what was it one of you jokers said to me last time "see I told you turbos are better", hint hint Tony [

Sounds great but really need to get a day in up at Oulton so that will take priority for me. BTW I will be racing again at Silverstone with CSCC in mid September.

Loved that Vid Tony. Here's my feeble effort, no time to edit something together so just whacked a big wedge on from one of the busier bits. Not too much astro turf surfing here either.
Mike I loved your the photos, any chance you can send me what you can of my car (especially the one with it coming out of the garage, I feel a change of avatar coming on [
