S or 2.7? Opinions please

Andy if you could please that would be amazing!
Of whats currently available I was going to phone up about that one and this one tomorrow;

(though the bonnet and wings look a bit dodgy so got to find out about that)

Though if you could view it for me it would give me an unbiased opinion on it and i really would be greatly appreciative of making the potential 600 mile round and wasted journey if it wasnt as good as it looks/makes out and would save phoning up to only if you reckon its worth while.

Thanks
Will

Ok no worries,
I will call them tomorrow and arrange viewing.

Well not going to go for the black one now :( even though it's my preferred colour and a nice dark interior, just phoned them up and had a nice quick honest conversation with the guy and apparently the lower part of the front bumper, bonnet and lower part of both wings can all do with work being done to them which he reckons could cost a bit of money.

Will,

I have called the garage and told them I am coming to look at the car and why, only trouble is the car is not under over and the rain ha not stopped all morning and it's not just drizzle!

Forecast is saying dry after 3pm if not will try again tomorrow, don't see much point looking at it in this weather for you?

awsome thanks man, if you cant get and view it today dont worry bud. When ever is easiest or you are able to is fine by me as you are going out of your way to do me a favour.
Thanks
Will

Hi Will, ok went and had a look - finally the rain eased.

Unfortunately the car was not clean as had been used before Xmas by the seller who enjoyed driving it is first 944 experience, it appears to be an honest car, last owner's 3rd car - family man changed it for a volvo so as to get the kids in.

MOT - October with No advisories
Tax - March
6 Owners
Last Service - 20/4/12 @ 155,561
Belts changed -3/4/10 @ 149,000
Major Service - 3/4/10 @ 149,00
New Clutch - 2005
Service book fully stamped by mainly independent's and Hometune
Large folder of paperwork
Options sticker present in rear
Had rear bumper painted - invoice in folder
All internal seams appear original
No obvious dents / scratches (but not able to really see as dirty)

Leather in good condition
Carpets not worn
10 speaker option fitted
Front seats have electric lift/lower, manual fore & aft
Rear hatch lifts on its own when operating electric release
Gear change very easy and smooth, not notchy at all

Requires New Battery - Advised by seller
Steering wheel looks dyed (too brighter blue)
Dash has 3 small cracks over centre vents
Rear blind does not retract
Sunroof sits about 3-5mm high at back when closed
O/S door mirror glass appears to be proud of base slightly
N/S carpet and foam coming away from fixing between door and bonnet pull
Drivers side carpet under mat slightly damp
Passenger side carpet under mat and sill carpet damp
Bottom of N/S wing rusting
Noise from rear O/S brake
Pulls to left only when you let go of the steering wheel (maybe tyre pressure)
Front tyres I would guess 3-4mm tread - unknown brand of tyre
Rear tyres on wear limit - Kumho
Engine noise seems slightly noisy at front of cam tower on tickover to me, not tappety more mechanical ticking but maybe the 8v engine?

Car pulls ok but due to weather and water logged roads I was not able to "Drive" it there was no untoward noises or creaks in the cabin, other than the rear brake noise, a slight knock when gentle braking, no untoward mechanical noise, I did think the front end was a little sloppy into corners and under braking though (again may be tyre pressures)
Everything works as it should, and has an aftermarket alarm which also works.

I think that is about it, now I am not sure what £2600 buys you in the 944 market, but my own honest opinion on this one is, had I gone to look at this today with a view of buying I would have walked away and saved a few more pennies to look at a higher priced car or offered a lot less than the asking price and would want another look when it had been cleaned.

I am not sure on how bad the sills are (others will be able to advise)
It will need the sunroof drains sorting out (although the amount of rain we have had it could have been a lot worse)
It will need 4 decent tyres
Belts need to be done ideally within the year
Front wing will need attention

Hope I have been of some help rather than a hinderance

Mate you have definitely be helpful and I really do appreciate it (if I meet you at any porsche meets I hope to attend, then I deffinitly owe you a pint or something!). Im going to go to devon and view one next week hopefully if I can so I shall keep this in mind as I look around.
thank-you again bud!
Will

No worries, 600 odd miles is a long way for a car that never is quite as it sounds!
Did you manage to get hold of the 911 & Porsche World mag? There is 2.7 lux Guards Red, Studio cloth trim £2750 which sounds good, recent belts and new sills 126k on clock.

Keep us up to date on your progress and Hopefuly see you in March?

ye you have saved me a lot of hassle, money and time, always a shame when look and sound better than they are.
i havnt yet be pretty manic over the last few days, though shall hopefully get it in the next day or two :) sounds interesting and more reason to look at downloading it sooner than late.
Shall do man, fingers crossed would like to make it up if possible though got a busy few months coming up so shall be time and money dependant.
Thought once i graduated life would slow down a bit but seems to have gotten more hectic lol.
Thanks again mate
Will

Going slowly at the minute unfortunatly.
Not sure whats happening with the Wrexham car yet as I thought we pretty much had set a deal as made him an offer and he said he wasnt interested, made him a fresh offer of money + my car and he said ok come and have a look at the car, then got another email of him saying he was going to put the price of the car up as he's had interest from more people (got an "amazing" response to him trying to justify it). To which I said if he put the price up I couldnt afford it until I had sold my car which he offered me some "advice" of sell my car. Then after telling him I would contact him if I sold the car and he still had it, to which he then responded again asking for pictures of mine, which I cant do till saturday as i'm working nights again so wont have enough daylight until then as I shall be asleep.
But I have also contacted a guy in kent about seing a nice looking 2.7 soon as I shall be travelling to London for the day so shall see him first.
Also my insurance company will not let me insure the car for the last month of my policy as I would be going from a group 7 to 20 and they dont allow more than a jump of 5 insurance groups at any one time between cars. So my dad shall be taking out a classic policy to bring it home for me and then I shall have to wait a month to drive it when I do my renewal :(

Bit of a nightmare then, it will be worth it in the end as for the car in Wrexham, forget it if a seller can't honour an agreement over the phone then you don't want to be trusting him or the car!

Did you get the magazine? If not I will post the details of the one for sale in it when I get home for you.

ye bit of a nightmare but one of those things want to find myself a fairly decent example rather than a dog so take a bit more time :/

Ye wont rule it out completely but like you said does make you trust him a bit less and wander about the car, this was the email I got of him when he put the price up (even the pre xmas price bit doesnt make sense as im sure the add went up after christmas day)

It was the Pre xmas price, EG the best time to sell in spring / summer would be worth £750 - £1000 more
I;ve also not had the bill yet from the garage!

There are a few of these cars on ebay for sale, I've owned 6 so far! and the cliché is this is a very good one!

If this was being sold by a dealership it would be £4995,from my ebay and automotive experiences sometimes items
are too cheap and attract lots of attention but no purchase, if the price is increased it makes it stand out more
to a potential buyer who knows it's true value.

These classic cars have a few items to look for, and this car has had them done (Engine belts / brakes)they can suffer from some un maintained bodywork and
tatty interiors, this car has non of these.

I'm a enthusiast not a car salesman, !!

My dad took this car to 2 classic shows last year, it's tip top and worth £5000 in my opinion, but I have a 924S and no inclination or space
to buy this car off my dad, so it must go, it must be used regular and to a good home.

I downloaded a copy to my tablet and tried ringing the guy about 4times and he's yet to answer and left a message, which is a little annoying. Thanks though bud!

think thats what I'm going to do mate I dont like messing people about and dont like being messed about and as andy said he's broken the original bit of honour with basically agreeing a deal :/

lol
Hes not a car salesman he hasnt managed to get that far he's only got as far selling the tyres for them lol
