Hello All

New member here. New to the the club and new to Porsche membership as well!

Just bought a 94 968 CS in black 35k from new. Had a big service done at Porsche Cardiff, just wanted to get all the bits done while I could and have just got it back. Took it for it's first real blast today on my favourite roads and was amazed at the pace I could carry, so stiff and balanced. I had geat fun flashing at other Porsche owners all of whom ignored me, but after 50 miles in the last 3 miles from home I saw a white 968 Sport on the A41 in Bushey! We all waved like mad! Is that anyone here?

Anyway hello all and I look forward to going to the R21 meet next month!

Saw your post on SELOC, so thought I'd say hello (albeit from a non-968 owner)so you don't feel too hard done by!

Hi Stuart,
What I was really trying to say was that although the 997 is the current "state of the art", the 968 certainly does not feel like a car that went out of production some 12 years earlier. For me on normal roads it is lighter and easier to drive, and I certainly feel physically more comfortable driving it in heavy traffic. If I were driving at speed on a twisty road I am certain that at the moment that the 968 would have the edge, probably because I am totally confident in the cars ability. In a straight line the 997's power would get it there 1st, but that,s not what driving is about for me, balance, feedback and "chuck-ability" are key factors.
I suppose that a lot of it is that I need to acquire the confidence in the 997 that I have in the 968, but for the moment I am loath to part it, especially when driving the two cars back to back, has made me realize just what a super car the 968 is.
Financially, trying to keep both cars does not make sense and the 968 will have to go, but not without regret.

Cheers Don

hi, i think your assessment of 997 vs 968 is spot on, and identical to my expereince.

cheers

Hi there Mercurial thanks for the response, just shows how active SELOC is?

Do you have a Lotus too?

This is the first time I've logged in to this site, to my shame, but hope to find some interests/problems in common. How/where do I post a technical query in the hope of finding someone with the knowledge or experience to help answer it?

Robin,

Hello and welcome, try posting on here, or on 968uk.co.uk or 968forums.com all are useful
and friendly.

Peter

Many thanks Peter for the prompt and helpful reply.

I note also that I am not apparently listed as a PCGB member though I have been for about 9 years and my number is 30810. Maybe I didn't fill in a box somewhere.

I've had the 968 for all of those 9 years, it's all the Porsche anyone really needs.

Kind regards.

Robin

Thanks to thegumeister for your kind words. Yours looks A1 also. I haven't quite got the hang of this Forum business yet but no doubt my son will tell me how it's done. 4RMS went on a pilgrimage to its birthplace a couple of years ago and notched somewhere north of 150mph, uphill, with the hood down. Fan-tastic.

Regards

Robin

Thanks Robin,
took mine to Le Touquet Classic show this year then onto Paris where my French son in law guided me around the Arc de triumphe with the advice put your foot down, they won't crash into a pretty car like this............... She will be A1 after next week as she is going in for slight cosmetic surgery on nose, wings and bonnet for stone chips and a small altercation between wing and the garage furniture.[][][]while pushing her back into the garage the other night[:(], very luckily she was already booked in, I suppose it could have happened after[8|]

Good for you Paul. Hope it turns out well. Mine could do with similar treatment to the front end, and the sills, though I've not bashed it yet. I need to find someone locally who is trustworthy to do a good job.

En route to Zuffenhausen we went via Reims (ambling/sampling through Champagne trail) and Strasbourg (beautiful place in the centre). Must say I was impressed with road surfaces in France, and we were not on main roads all that often.

I have two problems at the moment. The door mirrors only work on the driver's side and with vertical movement. Dear only knows when they ceased normal functioning as I really never need to change their position. I've taken the door and console switches apart as well as the motors in the mirrors and they seem in perfect condition. Local OPC (not my favourite place) suggest one or other of the connecting plugs, one of which seems to be tucked under the carpet at the driver's right leg. I've tried to check the ones on the mirrors themselves and they seem OK.

Other problem happened very recently. The starter turned the engine over more and more slowly until the (new) battery gave out. I immediately thought the alternator had gone but the warning light goes out as expected, as does the ignition light. The voltmeter shows at best about 11.5 volts when I recharge the battery, dropping to about 10 after a journey. Fortunately I haven't needed to be out with headlights on yet. The meter normally shows between 13 and 15 volts so I am wondering if the voltage regulator might be at fault (I think it's tacked onto the back of the alternator). A new alternator would be expensive if it's not to blame. If all else fails I'll need to find a reliable auto electricin but I wondered if any other owners had come across these problems.

Regards

Robin

I've posted your problems over on 968uk.com forum which is run by Stuart Cookson-Smith the PCGB 968 register supremo, had a few comments already, little bit of a fuss to register as you have to phone up and buy 2 car stickers for 3.50 but it keeps out the scammers and chancers so is well worth the effort. The font of all british 968 knowledge
Paul

Thanks again Paul.

I'll lash out and invest the necessary readies - a small price to pay for such a connection.

Regards

Robin

Bought my 968CS last month but I've only just found the forum. Had to ask someone as it was tucked away among the sponsor logos and I hadn't bothered to scroll down that far. Might need relocating? I've been using the 968uk forum so far - very useful/helpful - but I'll keep an eye on this one too.

Hello and welcome Richard, I am also mainly over on 968uk but its good to have another 68 on here, also worth trying are porsche-1.net more of a chat about all things porsche forum and there is a large scottish contingent on porschaforum.com
Got mine back yesterday Robin after cosmetic surgery, beautiful

Thanks for these sites. I'll check them out. Talking of cosmetic surgery, shame you haven't got the avatar on your posts which you use on the 968uk forum!
