Plastic Window Replacement - Experiences here please?

Best experience Paul French who has done a fab job on my 2.7 rear screen. It looks great.

Kind regards

hi, i think i am correct in saying that to replace a plastice screen you have to use a non-OEM designed model as the porsche one used on the later models uses a different metal frame?
as i am quite handy can i fit this myself?
also is it possible to buy a complete hood off a 2003 plus scrap car and attach to an older model/

thanks

If you mean replace with a glass rear window then yes- you have to go aftermarket if you wish to retain the frame etc.

I have heard that it may be possible to fit a 2003 complete roof to a pre-2003MY - but remember you will need to replace the side windows too - they are a different shape.

thanks for the info on the windows i did not know that and probably puts that idea out of reach so i will stick with the replacement hood only
so can anyone comment on self fitting and cheapest supplier
thanks

My rear window split last week in the sunshine (21.5 degrees celsius) whilst lowering it to the point where the Boxster chop was needed. I could not believe it!

..so I came straight to this thread (Great work Mark!) and from the response on this thread and a recent article in 911 & Porsche world (you can read it here) I decided to take my car to the Car Hood Warehouse in Chessington, Surrey. I was not disappointed ...the staff were very friendly, professional with a speedy response to all my questions etc and quality workmanship by Tyrone who fitted my new hood. (same guy as in the above article)

I went for a complete new hood with heated glass. Its a GAHH Hood (USA) looks top quality with a 1 year warranty and lifetime on glass coming away from the hood!

It was fitted yesterday and Im very please so far. I hope this helps others.

Cheers

Looks good, had mine for 6 months now and no issues, and wow never thought using a rear demister would be so good, even though the view is less then the plastic one, the fact you see something in all conditions makes it better.

Only thing I noticed when I first got it done closing the hood into the lock position was really tough, but now that it streched a little, it still nice and tight but a little easier to do, it's more to the point where the wife will be able to lock the hood now.

Hi Jason- I need a new window hood for my Boxster and thought i might have to
drive it down to south wales to get B.A.S. to fit it they Quoted me approx £800 inc
vat. Can you tell me cost and is it the same hood- it looks it.
Cheers

Hi jeegnesh

It's good to hear you've not had problems so far. I agree the view from the rear view mirror is like going from 4.3 to 16.9 widescreen (like having black bars top and bottom) [;)] Looking forward to using it once the hood has had time to settle.

The fitter yesterday mentioned that closing the hood would take some effort to begin with because the hood is new and very tight and will ease with age and use.

Hi Ron,

It's the same price as mentioned earlier in this thread. Its the GAHH Hood and looks a little more like the factory hood due to the "rounding off" of the rear window (just smaller) even the pattern on the inside of the hood is the same as the old one.

...as I said before, very pleased so far. Thanks to all for the recommendations.

It's not the BAS hood although I heard good things about those also. This is the GAHH hood from USA which comes with lifetime gurantee if the glass and the hood detachs. I paid £725 and that was done in my driveway.

Hi Jason- thanks for that i didnt go far enough back to see price. it looks very good in pictures.
Presume it is the blue mohair.

Hi Ron

Thank you. Yes I went for the blue mohair, it's what I had before with the OEM hood. Wanted to keep it factory. [:D]
All you have to do now is choose your colour and make that call.

all the best

I had mine done by Paul French Cars

www.paulfrench.co.uk

The hood is drum tight and rear screen is leak free and now glass. Paul runs a small Independant Porsche speciualist garage in Derbyshire and has been very helpful.

Worth a call.

Just wanted to namecheck Car Hood Warehouse (www.carhood.com) and their fitter Tyrone who did a great job in fitting a glass screen replacement hood. He even came back and sorted a squeeky frame for me, even though it had nothing to do with the new hood. Great service, done at my place of work for £775 all in. Glass so much better than plastic, even if it is smaller.

Hi All

Anyone know of a specalist in east anglia, prefferbly around the Cambridge area, who can replace the rear screen like for like?

Thanks.

I had my plastic window replaced by Surrey Car Interiors, Lower Manor Road, Surrey GU7 3EG some years ago

www.surreycarinteriors.co.uk

I can't recall the price but they did an excellent job and I would recommend them from a quality standpoint
