Plastic Window Replacement - Experiences here please?

Yes please let us know.

They used to be a BAS dealer but got dropped - BAS told me they had to fix a few for them... [&:]

Will do. The lady I spoke to really knew her stuff and was able to point the difference in the hoods not that one is better the. The other in fact the price provided was for with either hood and it was my choice to pick. As for the comments I never know what to believe you end up going on customer experience is you can the reason I say that is one place told me they would not touch BAS hoods with a barge pole and the issues he had with them another mention how they had more warranty issues with BAS then the American one. I guess I'll be one of the tester and hope for the best, fingers crossed.

Mark you got me concerned so I called BAS and asked them about the fitter and they said they do supply to them and they have done plenty of insurance jobs and they think that they should be fine. Truth in the pudding tomorrow.

I sure hope so :)

Advice needed after the new hood is on, is there any protection or anything I should apply to the hood??? (other then a hardtop)

All done, took him 2 hours, top bloke knew his stuff, no issues installing. Now only time will tell, but it seems pretty good to me and I can't wait to use the demister :)

@Mark - yes its a GAHH hood.

Here some pics of the finished article:

That looks great!

The window looks a lot bigger than the 1st Gahh hoods. They were more like the slot on a Countach!

Hi, I put my roof down a couple of weeks ago and the screen split into several pieces, I check online and cheapest option was about £225.00 then I realised that this was cover on my Insurance. I tried Autoglass and they told me they could not fix it then I went to my local OPC, Silverstone, who arranged for a replacement. Luckily I keep my car in the garage although I am sure Porsche would have collected. The total cost inc VAT was just over £500 but they have done a superb job, and also found lots of other things wrong with my car while they had it, most of which have now been fixed!! very expensive bill. Insurance company will pay the cost less the policy excess but I feel I got an exceptional job done and very pleased I can mow see clearly out of my window. Can anyone recommend a way to keep the screen scratch free, my last one was very milky and covered in scratches.

Keep it clean, don't fold it when it's dirty (the grit will grind in and make it scratched/milky.

The Porsche plastic cleaner is good once a year to deep clean, use a spray-on plastic cleaner (such as motorcycle visor cleaner) the rest of the time.

Dust the window off before folding.

If you use the hardtop use the Porsche "fleece" (a felt-like piece of material) to keep the plastic from chafing against itself whelst th roof is folded.

Or for those with windows in poor condition try a product called "Hindsight" (Google it) - works wonders and has reportedly brought milky windows back to life.

having problem finding someone who replaces the window in scotland and i live in Aberdeenshire, can anyone please help me..

Did you manage to have your screen repaired in Aberdeenshire?

A S Pickerings in Bradford do them if you live around the Yorkshire area, I believe its around £243 + Vat, Tel: 01274 7240000
They can do it in the day, if you live in this area, this is where every dealer or anybody else will take it to get done and stick their bit on top so just go direct!

I purchased a blue mohair hood with the glass replacement screen from BAS International.

£470 including VAT and delivery.

My local Porsche Indy fitted the hood.

Very pleased with the end result, in terms of the colour, the size and position of the glazed screen and the heated elements! What a treat.

All I can say if you are thinking about it you will not be dissapointed.

No more Boxster chop, do I go one stage further and fit a smart-top now?!?
