My inadvertent 944 turbo project

Is it being weighed with a weight in the drivers seat? Mine weighed 1,400 kilos excluding driver and with some luggage in the car.

Terra's right. The car's not back yet. No new hiccups, just had our first child so been busy with wife and kid. Hopefully should have the car back on 2nd Jan. Can't wait. Spoken to Jon and he's pleased with the drive and how it pulls. If Jon's happy, it must be good! :) I'll have to be careful to learn how to drive the car as it should be a completely different beast. Hopefully some driving tuition in q1 next year followed by track days. :) Out of memory, the weight included 2/3 tank of fuel, drivers weight (approx 75kg). I'm already fighting the ugre for a bigger turbo and new wheels.

Iv always worked on the stock car weight around 1350kg. Be a while b4 you can attempt to put any power down. Unless u go out in the day and dry. A turbo is on my next list. Due to hot side seals failing. Not sure how ture this is but when a journal bearing turbo is layed up for a while the oil drains out, then when started it will spin dry causing wear. Wear doesn't have to be much to increase oil consumption ? I find it hard to believe as I would think we're hear a lot more issues with cars put to bed for winter? Turbo upgrade isn't an easy choice. Ideally I think I'm looking for gtx 3071r spool and power wise. But fittment seems to be the major issue. Even keeping the kkk hotside for bolt up seems to come with higher back pressure

Mine was dead on 1300kgs with not much fuel and no driver (minus A/C, electric seats, rear seats and sound deadening but half cage back in)

Now that the baby is home I doubt I'll have much spare time. Will probably use it on weekends when I can and look to get some driving tuition in march next year. Let me know what you decide about the turbo Terra.

Well its all ready when you are Jabriel, I might see if we can get it delivered to you, because I know what it is like with a new baby around the house, congratulations again!

Whoah there Jon, steady on - with a new baby in the house I'd imagine Jabriel would welcome an excuse to get out for a bit of "man time"

So not everything has gone according to plan since getting the car back. I wanted to put some miles on but the second time I took the car out, I realised I had a flat. I've managed to change the tyre (to a new Michelin PS2 (n3)) but while having the tyre changed, I realised the wheels would definitely benefit from a refurb. They do have a few scratches on the face but nothing too bad. The rest of the wheel was in worse condition than the front. The wheels are 17" cup2. The questions I have are: 1. Where do I go for the wheels to be refurbed? (I know of Lepsons but they are pricey. I would use them if the end product is that good. But are there others anyone can recommend? I'm based in NW London. Isn't there another company that lends you wheels while they take your away for the refurb? These guys get regular recommendation but I don't recall who they are.) 2. What should I expect to pay to get a proper job done? (I'm going to refurb all 4 wheels.) 3. Do I stay with the original colour? (The car is black so I definitely don't want black wheels. My head says stay with the stock colour.) 4. Is there any sort of special treatment or process worth considering which adds protections to the wheel against the salt on our roads?

Found them - http://www.exelwheels.co.uk/default.html I know these guys are highly recommended but they are pricey at £70-80 per corner + VAT.

There £60 a wheel round my way for tire off and strip and then powered coated. Or 40 for a re paint In 2k with tires left on. South east Kent. So extra £20 per wheel isn't to bad when you get to keep car on the road and no hassles .

What do people think about colour options? The car is black and has yellow callipers. I mentioned I don't think black wheels would work but anthracite or gun metal may suit? I've always loved black cars with gold BBS wheels. Gold definitely works with BBS wheels but im not sure about gold cup 2s. You thoughts?

I would go bronze though it may not suit with yellow calipers. See the 964 in this thread with bronze cups. I thought it looked cool http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/964-forum/246026-random-964-picture-thread-261.html

That is stunning! Agree re it potentially not suiting yellow callipers. Shame really.

Here's my black on black. I'm after a change of cvolour, either to gloss black or back to original. Had discounted gold but that 911 looks amazing. Very tempting.

So far a darkish (but not too dark) anthracite or silver seem like the best options. Had a look at the lepsons site and like the 'Carr’s Anthracite (Medium Anthracite)' and 'Bright Sparkle Silver' seem like the best options. Gold/bronze look great but doubt it would work with the callipers so that's fast becoming a no go. Would even consider repainting the callipers but they were rebuilt and repainted last year and don't need it again.
