My inadvertent 944 turbo project

This particular turbo is now running very sweetly, although looking slightly like something from back to the future, with exhaust probes and many sensors attached for datalogging and road tuning, we just need the weather to play ball with the final road mapping tweaking, and as the owner seems keen, we will probably polish off the mapping for full throttle and full boost on the dyno.
Jon, any chance the Dyno run can be on Friday when I collect the car? I'd like to be there on the day of the dyno run. Not sure if it suits the T3rra or Ewan though?

Ewan, my car is already at Jon's gaff as from this morning [8D]. Book mine in too if you like and i'll transfer the dosh. Although I wont be able to make it down myself so, one of you lot will have to take it. It's up to you mate [8|]. I can always wait until my next lot of mod's has been completed before sticking it on the dyno [8D][:D]. Aporschefan (do you have a normal/boring name)?, I have had the same batch of mods as you done by JMG over the past year [8D], still loads more to come, JMG are a fantastic outfit aren't they [8D][8D][8D]!!! I would never take my Turbo anywhere else now and NO MISTAKE [:D]!!! You must come to the "Ring" with me and Jon' in 2014, you would love it! Where do you live mate?

I'm in pinner, nort west London. My normal name is jabriel. I must change my signature sometime soon. Ring next year is a possibility...

Ok so that's 5 cars? Jon can sort something out that be nice. I'm going to be the black sheep, with all you Jmg tuned lot

How's it going Terry? How's the Turbo coming along? We ain't spoke for ages. You should come down to Brighton one weekend mate. We could go out for a "potter" and i'll show you the sight's [;)][:D][8D].

Yeah I'm fine thanks, got the car back for now so be good to get alone 2 some meets. Are you putting yours away for the winter at Jmg? ;)

So if Jon can persuade Andy to play ball, next Friday we could have Jabriel's back turbo, Pete's black turbo, Tref's black turbo, Terry's silver turbo and my white turbo all on the RR for power tests. Sounds like fun. Go on Jon - make it happen! I'm itching to see the differences, and to see what bits I need to ask Santa (a.k.a Jon) to fit to my car next.

This is going to get expensive! :) I'm already fighting the urge to fit a BB turbo. (Not that it's needed) maybe a group buy next year? :)

Jon, my friend with the Boxster will be giving me a lift to yours on Friday. He's also interested in having his car dyno'd. Think Gert at Carnewal has changed his exhausts and he's had some sort of plenum upgrade too. Sounds like it'll be a fun day.

I will see what Andy has to say in the morning, but also I will look to see how much time we have in the diary and if we can shuffle things around to support people on the day. I think for example, Ewan and Pete's cars could do with a final boost level adjustment, which will mean a couple of extra power runs, but will be worthwhile, especially at this time of year, when it is the worst case scenario for overboosting, so at least they will be set for cold conditions. So it would be good for Mark and I to be there to dial these setting in correctly and check everything is still good at those boost levels.

Andy has sold the dyno and it is now living in Baisingstoke!! The annoying thing is, I would have bought it off of him if I had known he was selling it. I do have a couple of other ones I use, I will see what their availability is like!

That's a shame. Do u mine if I come along Jon? I know Tom also wanted to finish off his mapping via a dyno so if he about MIT be worth doing that at same time, if there room for us. Based on the location off those traveling maybe some where closer to west London maybe more central for everyone.

Did you have any luck with the others Jon?

They are going to call us with a slot for yours to have a power run as soon as they can make a space, but no room for several cars, which is understandable at such short notice I guess

Spoke with Mark earlier today. The car is apparently a bit twitchy and the back end is trying to overtake the front far too much. Rear bushes suspected to be causing this. So new powerflex bushes are being fitted. Jon, will it help if I send info from COG regarding their work? It may be while I was chasing that 'like new' feeling I had them set up the car in a way which is contributing to what Mark described to me. On a separate note, I think the transmission mounts are tired and needed to be replaced. I was eventually going to be replace these but as they are going to be there (so to speak) I asked for these to be changed too. Question is, is there an 'upgrade' option for transmission mounts? Or do I stick with stock mounts?

Have posted a requested in the wanted section but am considering 968 MO30 ARBs while the work is ongoing. Does anyone have any second hand in good condition?

Terrifying isnt the word, it's been a reasonably dry week, but trying to fine tune the mapping for road driving has seen rear end steer one way as you hit the throttle and the otherway as you let off, and not through any exciting wheel spin, just through variable rear end geometry! It certainly "wants to go" though. Some bushes should sort it out, and a transmission mount should tighten it up.. We have no problems with the standard article, it works well even in cars with absolute monster torque.
