GTS ordered

Neil Chadwick said:
I placed an order towards the end of July and my OPC confirmed on Monday that I have been allocated a car. No details yet as to when that may be, but I have been invited to book the Silverstone experience day. Has anyone else who ordered a car in July/August had a build slot confirmed and if so when?

When I was visiting another OPC recently, they confirmed that they have allocation for about 2 - 3 a quarter in 2022. This was one of the larger / newer OPC and so others may be different.

Neil

Hi Neil,

Placed my order in late August and not had allocation yet but was told Q2 for delivery (likely May). I got the Silverstone experience day email earlier this week too.

Iain

I ordered a 992 C2S in March and was told Q1 2022, then Q2 2022 and now OPC says "who knows". When I pushed them they were reluctant to even confirm late 2022. I asked about a Cayman GTS and they said no earlier than 2023. Bummer.

Thanks Iain , that's helpful and what the intimated best case scenario was likely to be. I know that someone who ordered a car the month before was given a November 2021 build slot.

There is a brand new black manual in OPC Cardiff - GTS - £75k, alcantera interior. Worth a look if you don't want to wait until 2023

I'm off the test drive a GTS PDK on Wednesday. my salesman said if I left a deposit then, I'd be 6th in the queue so would be looking at end of '22 before I got an allocation and then April/May '23 before I took delivery. I mentioned it to 'The Ice Maiden' and she just rolled her eyes....here we go again!! As mentioned, if/when I get an allocation, I can decide to cancel the order I'd get a full refund so why not? £3K doesn't make much interest in the bank at the moment.

TBH thats suits me. I'm 50 in 2023 and this will most probably be my last expensive purchase before I retire (I may buy a cheap runner to keep me going to and from work in the meantime) but lets see where the test drive takes us. I like the low down torque of the turbo in my 2.0 but after having a 992 for a weekend, I long for the flat 6 wail.

Dan

I ordered a GTS 4.0 in mid-October from OPC Bournemouth, and so far have had various wild guesses given to me about delivery timescales, ranging from August 22 to Spring 23! Still, I'm in no rush as I only got my current car (a GR Supra Pro) last March and spent a bit upgrading it, so I wanted to get some more use out of it before changing. I had been seriously looking at a Lotus Emira for my next car instead, and had even put a deposit down, which I have since got back after attending their hugely disappointing launch roadshows in September. The prototypes look fabulous and I'm sure will be particularly great to drive in V6 manual form, but sadly Lotus couldn't even provide proper colour samples, let alone a production-spec car to see in the metal, leaving me feeling distinctly uncomfortable. Given that they haven't even finished building the factory yet, I was also left very pessimistic about their claim to deliver cars next year.

I therefore decided to return to the Porsche fold instead, with the added bonus of having a convertible again, which I miss. My only qualm (besides the overly long gearing, which I can live with) is the current range of colours for the 718 range, which I don't find very inspiring. I'll probably stick with my ordered spec of GT Silver with a red hood and the GT interior pack. I have been chewing over Racing Yellow as an alternative, but I find it a bit insipid at times compared to the Speed Yellow I had on a 986 Boxster S 20 years ago, which I really loved. My other Porkers (a 987 S and a 997 C2S) were both shades of grey, but I don't like Agate, which I find far too dark. Aventurine Green and Crayon both intrigue me (but only in bright sunlight), and the rest of the shades leave me completely cold. However, I'm sure I'll have fun playing with various combinations on the configurator over the many months before I actually have to lock in my choice!

What a bizarre day today, had my 911 on Pistonheads for sale just for curiosity, had a phone call in the week from a chap who was interested in the car. He came down this morning to look at the car and purchased it. All over in a flash. I then rushed out the door to pick up my Cayman after 9 months of waiting. Pic below.

@Scrounger / Dan - ‘Same-same’ 😊

i placed an order at OPC Silverstone 2 weeks ago, paid the £3k and was informed I’m 12th on their list and that Sept / Oct ‘22 is ‘likely’ - which is perfect as September ’22 is my 50th birthday, and this is my 50th present to myself - a boyhood dream 40 years in the making, my very first (and also likely last) brand new Porsche 🎂🎁🥳👍🏻

in fact I don’t want it before September as I want a 72 plate car to reflect my ‘model year’ of 1972 😉😁

Good luck with the wait Dan.

Jason

A thing of beauty Jase! 🤩

love the shark blue - I keep ‘flipping’ between gentian blue with the arum gold wheels, or shark blue with the platinum wheels, I just can’t decide 🤷‍♂️

i was at the PEC yesterday morning for a breakfast meet there with TIPEC (not sure if I’m ‘allowed’ to utter their name on these pages!? 😮😁) and took loads of photos of a gentian gts4.0 PDK, and a shark blue spyder PDK they had there.

i think the shark blue highlights the bodywork panel curves and creases and the black trim contrasts very well against it.

but in the right light I love gentians sparkle and the slight purple hue in it.

also seeing yours has helped me confirm I just want the standard xenons - I like the chrome contrast element in them, I really dislike the washer ‘nipple’ through the bumper on PDLS and PDLS+ (and all the washer ’mess’ squirted over the wings), and I don’t drive at night much anyway.

is yours manual or PDK?

wishing you many happy miles and smiles of motoring 👍🏻

Jase too

Pics of the Gentian if you wouldn’t mind Please Jason. I’m torn between this and Aventurine Green.

Dan.

Sorry Dan,

I can’t upload photos / links as it seems the PCGB a forums require you to link to a 3rd party hosting site, which i don’t have any accounts with (eg flickr).

🤷‍♂️ if you PM me your email address I’ll gladly email you the photos that I took. I also have some photos that the OPC sales guy airdropped me of another customers GTS in gentian with the gold wheels, which looks stunning. This is currently how I’ve specced mine - but my build won’t lock for months yet (around June the dealer said!), so plenty of time to keep changing my mind… 😵‍💫😁

Dan, you really need to see these colours in real life. Both Gentian and Adventurine look different in different lights and photos just don’t do them justice. No matter how many you see. You need to see real cars in real light, not just under showroom lights either.

I've seen AG in the flesh on a Boxster before I ordered my current 718 and tbh I wasn't a fan but the car had black wheels, I just felt in darkened the car a little... looks good with silver wheels though.

I'm off this week so may have a drive around my local OPCs to see if they have anything in Gentian, Guards Red or Aventurine. If anyone knows of a 718 in those colours at either Bolton, Stockport, Wilmslow or Chester I'd be grateful if you could let me know. I know my OPC (Preston) has a 911 in AG and I'll have a run up to have a look.

Jase too

Had a day in the car today, fitted the Zunsport grills, protected the interior with Gtecniq and swisswaxed the wheels with the wheel balm - smells good :) Is there anything I regret - no, glad I didn't go with 14 or 18 way seats, two clicks and I'm in the perfect seating position, foldable mirrors and dual climate are a must, lights are great, happy with the colours, glad I didn't go for any gloss black although it would have been nice to have the body colour on the air intakes. Extended leather has to be top on the list but again glad I didn't go with the econtrast stitching, heated wwheel is a bit luxurious :)

Overall, a fantastic car, easy to drive, not as big as the 911 but also not as well spec'd generally, feels like the quality isn't quite as good but you would expect that. What would I prefer - the Cayman as an everyday or almost everyday car.

Jase

Can you post the exact zunsport you bought Jase, then I’ll order in for my delivery

went for a little test drive in portsmouths Boxster 4.0GTS yesterday

great car but did feel a bit cosy after a few years of 991- but I can’t wait to get that mid engine balance again
