Grills and Warranty

If I fit them I will just remove for warranty checks, Wonder if they will reject mine due to it having 718 LED side lights fitted.

In relation to the Zunsport grills, they are fairly local to me and I was thinking of having them fitted to my 997.2

Are they an easy fit or let Zunsport fit them? Any idea of cost for fitting?

Thanks

I can see that they might effect the air flow. As they just clip in best to remove them on check Ive got them on my 987.2 Look goods Don't forget to remove the PU and check the Condensors are clear (Two little bolts hole the Condensers to the Frame it is amazing how much crap gets between the Condenser and Radiator Now That DOES effect the air flow and destroys you Air Condition. See Really Enjoying my Boxster earlier Post!

Very easy to fit, all you need is a screwdriver, and also a drill but only if you have a centre rad. Full instructions are supplied and they’re quite thorough.

May well be easy to fit, but Zunsport local to me so got fitted by them whilst I waited. Very professional and did a great job. They have grills to fit almost anything, great little business, and gave me the 10% PCGB discount. Think they were about £230 for all three fitted to my GTS.

I had thought of purchasing a set of these for my Cayman but after watching this video I am slightly unsure. This video shows you how to fit the grills but in the video it takes two people? The grills themselves look, I dont wish to say naff but not what I expected!

Are these the best on the market?

I fitted them to my Cayman GTS earlier this year and they have now been on for over 10,000 miles and saved a lot of rubbish from the intakes. I am booked in with Teesside for my 111 check but will now get them to decide on the grills before they start, as they are not coming off. I will go elsewhere for my warranty if necessary.

i got the three grills. Zunsport provided amazing service and they took about 30 minutes to fit using a screwdriver to flick the clips over. All within 48 hours of placing my order on line. Very satisfied.

I think they look fine certainly don't look naff ...my son fitted ones to his 997 GTS himself took all off 20 min look great ,saw a 991T on Sunday and the amount of debris in the air intakes was terrible ,know what I would prefer to see

I fitted these on my own in 30 minutes and I’m useless at DIY!!

they also look brilliant, better than without, and at the same time doing a great job

Hi John

I’m currently in dialogue with service at Teeside regarding fitting these and impact on warranty on my 718 Cayman. They are in dialogue with customer service / warranty regarding this having previously said ”no”. They have said that if I had fitted them they would send an online ticket to Germany to review. They have sent Germany the web link to the specific grilles on the zunsport site

Where else will you go for warranty - different OPC or non Porsche?

Sorry - is your GTS a 718? If so, do any of the side grilles require drilling to fit - the kit suggests they are supplied with a number of screws....I thought they were all clips

I am also keen to know whether those of us with 718 Caymans in particular the S requires anything other than clipping in the grilles. Definitely do not want to drill or screw anything in to any piece of bodywork or Trim

also, do you have to take anything apart on the car or is it simply, get down on your knees and clip the grilles in behind the existing plastic in front of the radiators

thanks

Mine is a 981. Teesside said that they had asked AG on behalf of another customer, I guess it is you.

Another complication has cropped up that mine is going in for an extended warranty check, which is essentially an insurance policy, rather than the manufacturers warranty that you get for the first three years. They may have different rules - we’ll see.

There are a number of alternatives on the market. I am only looking for cover on the big ticket items - engine and gearbox.

I have the Zunsport Grills fitted to my Turbo S and have just had the car inspected and passed for the Porsche Approved 2 year warranty extension. No problems encountered and all paperwork received.

Afternoon all.

Just got a reply from Porsche Germany regarding these Grilles and the effect on Warranty (and also regarding replacing exhaust bolts with stainless ones), in short grilles are verboten, but the bolts are acceptable!

The Cayman, as a more ‘standard’ vehicle with far less track use has the smaller air intakes since the focus is on the CD value (coefficient of drag). With the GT vehicles, the focus is more on track use with corresponding raised danger of gravel bed/stones on the cooling units. Therefore with the GT vehicles the CD value is not as good as with the Cayman due to the larger air intakes which are protected by grids. The air loss through the grilles are compensated by the larger air inlets. Installation of grids on the Cayman are not permitted under the Porsche Warranty as there is a risk of overheating.

In reference to your second email regarding the bolts, should the customer wish to install other bolts this will have no effect on the warranty of the vehicle.

With all the different reports on this forum it sounds like many OPCs may be turning a blind eye to this, so it's all a matter of luck! (or just remove them prior to warranty renewal!)

It will be interesting to see if I get the same message on my GTS. i could do as suggested and remove them for the inspection, but if I then put them back, I have to make sure that I could remove them prior to any future OPC visits and any potential claim inspection. Given all the other restrictions the extended warranty imposes and the high costs involved, I am not optimistic.

i will let you know when I get my answer.

I suspect the build up of debris in unprotected intakes reduces the airflow much more than the grilles do.[;)]

Just had an E-Mail from Zunsports grilles advising that Porsche have issued a recall notice for 918 & Caymans to refit new grilles FOC due to the potential problem with owners throwing out cigarettes out of their car windows getting sucked into the intakes causing severe problems ? Does anyone know anymore as Zunsports are offering an alternative ?

Peter,

Can you forward that email to me please? I haven't heard of any recalls but it would certainly be worth chasing up with Porsche.
