Got an email from my OPC today on the new 911...

Thats fine. Just let me know if I can help in any way. Paul may be busy with his gardening work now that the weather has improved.

All I need is a moderator to look after the 991 forum area and I can set this up for you. No need to wait for an RS, that will come later.

Would be an advantage if it was someone who had 'intentions' of buying one but its not necessary.

Just let me know.

Well, I'm unlikely to be buying one of the first 991's as I'm intending to wait for the Turbo, but if there is a need for a moderator's assistant, I'm happy to volunteer...

Cheers

Whilst other internet forums discuss what spec they are having, ownership experience and potential new members...
Building into the excitement of the new 991 owners, we sit here waiting to hear if we can have even have an area for it on the forum!! [&:]

If I were a UK owner looking or thinking about the new 991 then you'd of thought the Porsche club of Great Britain would be a good place to start with its 'close links' to Porsche UK cars...

Johnny McGirl is the most pro Porsche and pro PCGB person in the whole world and I just cant imagine he is going to say "Please don't set up a 991 forum"

Whilst we are at it can we add a 918 forum for those with very deep pockets [:)]

Need to get our 997 tag line sorted then, as it won't be "The new model" for much longer[8|]

Your catching up Tom [;)]

Nick, if it's a confirmed model, has been requested and someone has offered to Mod it (which I can assure you has been done in this case) then there is possibly no reason we can't have it applied to the forum that I see.

I somewhat agree things possibly need to wait until launch for the register itself but were not asking for that.
I look across other forums and see advice and discussion on the new colours and materials, yet not here on PCGB []

I find it a proper bang your head against a brick wall moment.
Then again we are busy organising the 50th.....

Was in the OPC today and they now have all the prices, colours, options etc, although not in printed form yet. Good news is that sports exhaust is listed, albeit without confirmation that it will be available from day one. On previous models it took ages before they were factory fitted. So Gary, I agree, time for a new addition. I seem to remember this was the case with the Panamera.

Further to my email last week, I am delighted to inform you that more details on the new 911 (Type 991) Carrera and Carrera S Coupé models are now available on www.porsche.co.uk

The new 911 raises the benchmark yet again with refined engines that consume less fuel but deliver more power, with efficiency enhancing technologies such as auto start/stop, thermal management and electrical system recuperation. The intelligent lightweight body uses a composite blend of aluminium and steel with a suspension derived from motorsport and with an interior designed for sporty comfort.

The microsite on www.porsche.co.uk provides more details including images of the exterior and interior styling as well as the various options available on both models. You can now also use the Porsche car configurator to personalise your ideal new 911.

Demonstration drives in the new car will be available after the on-sale date of 17 December 2011.

Should you have any questions or need further information, please do not hesitate to contact me on 0118 9303911.

I am laughing but really it's not funny. I just spec'ed a Carrera S with a similar spec to my current Turbo and it came out at £110k!!! WTF, that's almost an extra 50% which loses value upon resale.

Do Porsche realize that most people (even fairly well off ones) have less money than they did a couple years ago due to the global recession?!

Are these 991s going to be produced in limited numbers to keep up residuals? If not then you are going to lose £50k depreciation in a couple of years...

Madness!

There are definitely some dodgy looking brown/gold colours [:'(]

As for folding door mirrors .... these are things for BMWs etc .... should have left the mirror location alone!

So having lightly specified a C2S it was pushing 100K so answer yourself a simple question what else (better) could you buy for this money?

There is a thread asking this same question on Pistonheads ..... First suggestion was a 2009 low mileage 997 GT2 for 92K from an OPC!!

I just sent an email to my OPC saying that probably for the price of a well optioned 991 Turbo, I could buy a 997 GT2RS. It's the options that should be standard that is getting me the most.

If the next gen R8 stays about the same price, then I'd rather have one of those and pocket the cash difference.

No brainer! You'd have SO much more fun in a 997 GT2 over a 991 Carrera S. I'd much rather have a 997 GT3 over a new 991 Carrera S fully spec'ed too (which would be twice the price.

This massive 991 price jump may actually increase 997 residuals as a result [:)]

Dear 5th Gear, Please do a piece on a 991 Carrera S vs 997 GT3 (gen2)...

Think that could possibly be my old one - and I certainly recognise that fence. [:)]

Bristol OPC, right? [8|]

When I bought my first brand new Porsche (997 C2S) in 2007 it was £74k and it had most of the (important) bells, whistles and flutes in that price. That's quite a price hike in 4 years............
Think, like you, I would rather have something like
http://ucl.porsche.de/ucl/plsql/uk/clients.show_car?sid_=36310936I3MRAC2P8POIDALD0QZL54D&pnr_=1&lnr_=1&caller_=
for £100k with only 600 miles on the clock

In fact Swindon have a year old Turbo S for £103k

Indeed it is OPC Bristol .... so is that one 'careful' owner or is that the next guy who owns it [;)]

That is a lot of car for a lot less than 991 C2S money.

My gen 2 997 s cab cost about 90k with all toys included in Oct 2008. I have done just a shade under 10k miles and got a call from my friendly OPC about the new 991. Asked what my car was worth in part exchange was told about 45k. I politely told him that a cahnge over of about 50K for 10k worth of driving was a no brainer. Will keep my 997 for the forseeable future and probably longer. Now if they said it was worth 60k then I might think on it - oh pipe dreams.
