Got an email from my OPC today on the new 911...

What particularly annoyed me about the press releases, adverts, car configurator and the overall porsche pricing system was the fact that there are several different 'base' prices kicking around.

The bottom line is that if you want to include 'standard options' (which you can't remove anyway) such as leather seats, top tinted windscreen, tracker, PCM and 3rd year warranty you cant sit in a C2S for less than £81,242.

Really very hard to justify a change methinks!

Agree, other markets get other options including partial leather seats etc

Funny thing is the forums in the USA are complaining about the lack of PCCBs and the initial batch are all PDKs!!

They do however get a lot of options as standard and also have the choice of some discounted option packages.

The killer for us is the entry point for their C2S is $96,400 or 59,535 GBP inc tax.

My gen 2 997 s cab cost about 90k with all toys included in Oct 2008. I have done just a shade under 10k miles and got a call from my friendly OPC about the new 991. Asked what my car was worth in part exchange was told about 45k. I politely told him that a cahnge over of about 50K for 10k worth of driving was a no brainer. Will keep my 997 for the forseeable future and probably longer. Now if they said it was worth 60k then I might think on it - oh pipe dreams.

OMG !! And with relentless roll-out of 991 models from now on.....sadly, I would suspect 90-100k spent on a 991 C2S will result in pretty similar depreciation in 3 yrs time (i.e. once the "991 GT4S Black Edition" is launched [:D]). Like you, I'm sticking with my 997 for forseeable future (or until my lottery numbers come up) as to me, it's exactly same car just with 60k discount and a real handbrake [:D][:D]

With the costs so high and the car not that major against the Gen2 I wonder how sales will go??
Then again I guess this was said only a few years ago when we went from 999 to 997....[;)]

Trying to recreate my original spec C2S sans power kit was approx £90k versus the purchase price of £73 (if you take away he £8k for the power kit) 25% increase in 5 years - approx 5% per year price inflation in a down turn where everyones income is static or shrinking.........

Speccing the equivalent as my current Turbo S, was £106k, just £17k less than a new base Turbo S

Speccing a good new C2S to take advantage of new features like the Burmeister stereo £108k without trying........

What does this suggest for the Turbo & GT models - there will need to be clear air between a reasonably specced C2S and a turbo so £110k -£120k seems a likely entry point before options.

The model range traditionally gets better value as time (and model age) comes into it, look at the original 997 Carerra and C2S specced and prices compared with the run out models and there is a significant increase in value as the model life goes on.

Even allowing for that a well specced 991 Turbo is now looking like it'll be north of £150k

So I suspect a lot higher percentage of the new model will be the cooking models (Carrerra and S) wit ht he other more expensive variants being much rarer than with the 997.

A few people have flagged higher prices means higher residuals as less volume, more exclusivity - ask an Aston owner on a V8 Vantage or stock DB9, they had much higher spec for spec purchase prices and much larger depreciation - when you move up the price bracket out of the niche Porsche has found for the 996/7 were into wealthy people over successful enthusiasts and then newness is everything, 3 years old is nothing, so rotten depreciation.

Wouldn't have minded the hike if they made the C2s something special, say 420/430hp and serious super car performance

The new models are starting to make my Turbo S seem like a bargain.

Do you know in all the years I have owned a Porsche I have never been invited to any event, or had an email saying would I be interested in a new car. Strange I always end up approaching a dealer?... Yet the local Merc garage invite me often as do BMW and Aston, maybe I need to do something about my appearance.

You and me then!!!
I do seem to be getting the emails though [&:]

The German configurator has an Aerokit Cup. It also has an option for a ducktail spoiler (called SportDesign Paket in German)

I can't believe that we are still waiing for the new 991 sub-forum.

As someone has already pointed out, other forums have been discussing the 991 for weeks now, so the fact that the official PCGB website is still without its own section is pretty poor....

What are they talking about with regards to the 991 on other forums? Sorry, I haven't looked. Anything different to here? The conversation on here seems to have dried up. Is it because the price has increased to the point of being unappealing? I won't pretend to be in the market for one so I hadn't priced one up on the configurator and hadn't realised. I originally thought the car was a good step forward, the interior, rear exterior and a small improvement in performance over its predecessor (yes only small but more interestingly, sets a new baseline that the GT and turbo models have to sit on top of). However, the price increase would seem disproportionate in relation to these improvements!

It's early days but in a way it may have carved out a new identity for the 997: "probably the best 'bang for your buck' modern 911"...

I wonder how that plush interior will look inside the RS models. As much as I like it, i'd like to see them strip the interior back to basics on the racier models. Maybe have an 'RS' steering wheel with some of the driving aid buttons such as PASM and Sport Chrono moved onto there and the centre console removed.

Ah, hopefully there will be when the 991 Forum is up and running! Having agreed to kick off the 991 Register today, the wheels are in motion to set the Forum side up.

Congratulations Peter. As the new potential owners join I'm sure the 991 will be a busy area.
