Flat 6 valuation

I believe all the carpets sold, they seemed well priced, especially the 3,000klm one, not a red one that fell of the transporter when new .... ? I nearly choked on my beer last night when I logged on to Primelocation!

Offered by a Dutch dealer with -as I hear- a good reputation.
ORIGINAL: 964RS C4 Lightweight, 393 km (!): asking €395,000
"Sold" sign on Sunday, the guy who sold it had a broad smile on his face. It´s a collector´s item obviously, you can also call it a parts bin special. Rumour has it that a collector bought it to fill the gap in his 964 collection.
ORIGINAL: 964RS RS carpet 3,000 km: asking € 134,900
That could be a mongrel, recreation, rebuilt accident car, whatsoever. The dealer didn´t exactly confirm that it´s a real RS. Mintgreen btw.
ORIGINAL: 964RS Rubystone NGT, engine just rebuilt, 100,000 km: asking € 200,000
Brave figure for a car with more than 100,000 km and a solid track history. Engine modified as I hear.
 
I think mileage is a bit confusing on these cars,I think buy on condition 30,000 km just track use 964 rs better than a just road 100 k car?? ....I wouldn't want a low miler
 
Yes a low miler is always a better option if it's FSH and History and original panel car, but with a price tag to go with the car, let's say currently £125+ What makes me wonder, if you buy a low miler and pay the premium, will you drive the car or confine it as a garage queen, if it used, one day it will become a high miler and have an inevitable rebuild and will become a low miler again. I think original panel and history car is more important, at least you can rebuild the engine (if not already done) and enjoy driving the car until that day comes, and pay half the money, or thereabouts. A full refresh on a RS, suspension, gearbox, engine and steering rack, seat recover maybe, is say £20,000 and you have a new RS as long as the body is straight and sound, these cars are so renewable and useable.

All true.... Point is that there are not enough cars available. The dealers I spoke to said that they can´t find cars - and if they find them, they are very expensive for the dealer also. The train has left the station I think. No more decent RSs for "acceptable" money. Hacki
 
And prices are a speculation at the margins. No cars and prices on the up is self fulfilling when many are buying for investment. Many cars and prices collapsing is self fulfilling when many are selling to realise investment. The enthusiast market is completely different. But the enthusiast market does not double prices on some cars in a year ... Take care out there ...

No doubt, you´re right, Chris. Maybe the time gap between no cars and prices on the up and many cars cars and prices collapsing might be a bit longer this time as we have no alternatives for money to invest at the moment. The hype will stop as soon as the Non Enthusiasts will find out that making money with a collector´s car is not that easy. On the other hand I think that the 964RSs are or will be part of the enthusiast´s market, so I expect prices to rise slowly and step by step as the 2.7 RS prices did. Linear Regression will correct the highs and lows we´re seeing now over the years and show a steady up tendency. IMHO Hacki
 
Buy now! Or you'll get left behind. If we think the cost of entry is now - look here again in a years' time and see how low you could have bought a 964 legend for!
 
The caveat in all this is that Porsche will look after their classic market very well. Porsche in the big league has a lot of catching up to do with Ferrari and others and this will be fed by the widening of Porsche enthusiast ownership. On which basis, buy what floats your boat for the fun of ownership, and be happy to take the long term view. It is still the case that the only guaranteed loss is the loss that you will make on every new car that you buy ! (unless it was a 997 GT3 4.0 or ??) I have the hots for a 924 CGT GTS ... go figure ! The 997GT2 was a flash in the pan, but not for me.
 
Don't get me started Chris... I just missed Richard Lloyds 924 Carrera GTS... didn't sell at auction, high bid 28k. Was in a dealer asking £32k... had the cash, thought it was cheap.... made mistake of discussing with wife (only time I EVER did that)... went to Freisinger with the Canon 956 as a freebie in the package.... he sold it on for Euro 100k+ Gutted still!
 
This is certainly not a 'normal' market and it is difficult to draw any conclusions from it other than it is not normal. What will happen in the next 12 months, 3 or 5 years is anyones guess but it is certainly not predictable. There are still many unknown variants in the world but it is certain that most of the desirable Porsche are not being bought currently by the typical previous Porsche enthusiast. Will they follow rare Ferrari and some other marques? I really don't know.....Porsche made a hell of a lot more cars than these manufacturers and there are a hell of a lot more still in existence. Renewed my insurance yesterday and on one of my very rare cars I chose the lowest limited mileage policy I could. That alone makes me sad..... When they become too expensive to thrash around for most normal people then it is a sad day indeed [&o]

How do you value something like this http://www.parr-uk.co.uk/sales/911-964-3-8-rs-clubsport-1992.html I remember this car being in 9M when I was getting the work done on my old car. LOTS of money spent of lightweight kevlar panels, doors and so on...plus the engine. Far from standard!!
