Are Spyders Becoming Extinct At OPCs!

7 Porsche Models That Have Aged Like Fine Wine

Porsche Boxster Spyder (987)

The 987-generation Boxster Spyder is proof that removing things can sometimes improve a design. Porsche stripped weight from the standard Boxster, added a distinctive double-hump rear deck, and created one of the prettiest roadsters of the modern era. The manually operated fabric roof looks unconventional, but it gives the car a unique personality. Combined with the compact proportions and clean surfacing, the result is a design that feels more special today than it did when it first appeared.

My unerside looks pretty much like that now. 4.5 years old, 29500 miles and driven all year round. I do use an underbody jet wash though.

Nice car, last owner only had it a few months must of hated it ! I tried to buy this one at £82k and missed it

then it sold at an OPC for £83 odd and I missed it again lol.

Had a few mods on it would if the OPC kept them all on it !

I tried to buy the Silver one at the OPC 2 weeks ago, they would not move on price and offered a VERY low part ex, so told em to shove it, they still have it :-0 AND WILL DROP it again soon I would say.
They would not even change the tyres on it. which I ask for. or offer any sort of deal to swap tyres.

It's not even nice dealing with OPC's these days imo and worse trying to sell a car is horrible, they offer £10k less than we buy any car even !!!
I wonder who does give OPC cars when Ashgoods will pay MUCH more form one.

MY local dealer offered £14k less this week for another of my cars which another OPC offered £14k more on and that was still a dire offer !! seems they want to make >£30k on my GT3 !! or do they just try it on as they like to take the wee wee and it seems some people just say yes have it £15k below trade value lol

whats worse is the sales people always lie and say "we don't have much money in that car sir" then give you a low part ex and put your car up £30k over it lol.
NO wonder Porsche profits are down, the VIP have ran off as the overs have gone (still high in the USA and dealers can sell at overs new cars !! ) but most OPC have 3 GT3's in stock on the .2's what comes around comes around I guess.
The down side is they have put up service costs, so I phone about and Leeds wanted £4.8k to service my GT3 and say NO discounts not even a PCGB one. and they dont care when I said "you are the most expensive in the UK, no thanks"

Mine at least did OPC discount on the whole bill but when was a GT3 4 year service £4.8k !!!!

ONLY OPC in the whole of the UK to do ok pricing is Bournemouth £2.8k if you want to travel, every one else was over £4.5k and LEEDS wanted to just charge more than anyone !

Ave person not buying Porkers any more an entry level 911 has priced people out, and the new GT3 CAB is £265k lol !!! for a parts bin rip off money grab !!

As I've gotten older it seems I'm agreeing more and more with MrDemon - not sure if that's a good thing or not 🤣

Pricing has gone pretty crazy. I'm fortunate that I own my car and have a very good relationship with my OPC who look after me, so ownership and running costs are kept in check. I am starting to limit the number of track days I do now though as they're turning out to be a really expensive day out. With loss of earnings included it's a £1000 day out

Anyhow, to get back on topic, I think the non-RS Spyder is going to stay pretty solid around £75k-£95k depending on whether it's a private/dealer sale and spec. Other than the non-GT 4.0 series cars there's really not a lot out there as an alternative. Keeping under the £100k bracket makes it a lot easier and cheaper to insure for road and track use, and you don't get hammered by the RS engine servicing and parts costs. As the cars are getting a bit older now that's also helping as they're not the latest "must-have" with all the associated costs of being one.

You know I speak the truth :p just owners don't like it some times.

I dare not pay £95k for a 718 Spyder atm, be £85k again in winter imo. it is a VERY small market the Spyder so prices will drop £10k again imo esp as guy on finance might see a profit and 4 year service due.

I would pay £85k for the right car, I see bigmoley cars up for sale, that's really nice but >20k miles and £90k without the 2 years warranty, I not paying that for a 20k mile car either from a non OPC.

imo a track days £3k real money.

I think the Spyders will bobble about a bit, but I can't see them collapsing in value.

I think £3k is a bit steep per track day, depends how you drive I guess. But tyres and brakes aren't getting any cheaper for sure....

All the while there are no known plans for future 718 EV or 718 top end ICE RS variants both 981 & 718 continue to maintain very strong residuals and no reason why that won;t be the case going forward
I have recently turned down £76k cash money, from a Porsche specialist, for my 10k mile Spyder as what can I possibly buy back other than a 718 (for me has to be manual) and that could easily costs me my car plus £20k then i would want to do an exhaust and full PPF so easily another £12k on top of any suitable car found if such a beast exists :ROFLMAO:

The long drought seems to have produced an even longer list of wannabe new 981 Spyder owners as I have personally been made 2 extremely tempting offers by 2 Porsche specialist dealers but as always what can I buy back with my car and say £25k that will deliver me more thrills etc

Currently nothing so I have bitten the bullet ditched my original Pirellis and fitted first set of Michelins all round & treated wheels to a refurb or rather colour change for 2026 :ROFLMAO:
