Any Southerners fancy a meet up?

Ex Skyline

New member
Northerners too if you fancy a nice long weekend drive. I used to go to loads when i had the Skyline and the Pulsar, at least one a month minimum. They are great fun and a good way to put forum names to faces! Weekend Hoon's were also a great way to get out and give the cars "the Beans". At least two or three times during the summer months. Marvellous stuff![8D]! I haven't seen one suggestion of a meet up during all the time that iv'e been coming on here. I thought it might be nice for a Southern area meet at least. Anyway, there you have it so, whaddya reckon? [:)]

I'm in Kent Herne bay say canterbury. Would be good 2 see the results off your upgrades.

Once a few more club in we could arrange a place

I'm always up for a meet but may find it hard at the moment with working the Olympics as most of my days off are now cancelled, let me know what date, etc. Have tried to organise trip to Wales but found it hard to get people to commit, current climate dictates weekend hoons away get little priority. You may get better response by organising a one day event, like a the succesful Rutland water meet or Dyno day.

I'm certainly up for it. I'm just up the road from Edd in London and I know there are a couple of other chaps nearby as well.

Dates are doing to be the challenge, with the Olympics putting the kybosh on most of the coming month. But sometime late Aug/early Sept would be a great plan.

Yes defiantly
Best thing is to suggest a date to get things moving, I can't do 11,12,18,19,August or 8,9,15,16 September

Hope we can do this

I'll have to miss this one as its going to be some time before the car is ready, next year perhaps. In Titanics hey day we often had such meets which were the best thing about owning a Porsche.

Hi all, thanks for the replies. Yes, it would be good to have a meet up either weekend hoon, all day or a long afternoon/evening. Let's make it happen. I know the Olympics have put the brakes on things for the next couple of weeks but, after that ? Let's have some suggested dates, maybe some time in September? I can make any date or any venue so don't worry about me (although Madeira Drive in Brighton is a great place for car meet's. That said,I don't mind traveling either). Meet up's and Hoon's were the best part of Skyline/Pulsar ownership for me and, it became a major part of relaxation in my life (although it eventually led to the inevitable)!! It must be the same for Porsche meet's only with a bit more class[8D][;)]. So, let's have some dates!

I'd be up for a meet. I did say at the meet in Rutland in the lovely weather [:D] that I'd look to organise a meet in the summer at Gaydon Motor Musuem. Work has been so stupidly manic I've had no time to breath, but it's easing up a little so would be up for doing this still. Can be as informal as you like and the museum is worth a look around if you've not been - still is if you have!

We shouldn't have to get too many together to get a concession on entry prices.

Let me know if you're up for this, I'm open to going elsewhere if the location isn't best for the majority [;)]

Cheers
Andy

I'd be happier with something a bit further South than Gaydon TBH. Brighton sounds a good option depending on the dates. Appreciate that may bee too far South for some though..

The 'Titanic' Hastings to Battle and Hastings to Brighton runs were great fun and very well attended in 2004 and 2005. As for the Lakes and Fells weekend way back in 2002, well that really was something!

Hi Andy, where is the Gaydon Motor Museum? It sounds "Oop North". I was hoping for a Southern meet at first like the South coast or London area. I stand corrected though if it is indeed in a Southern location. Let's see where the majority would like a meet to happen and then decide. [:)]. It certainly sounds interesting though.

A few years back we had good run around and ended up at Beachy Head, which was nice. I could be up for a similar meet on a Sunday for a drive and lunch (although ideally not too near to when the Brighton Speed trials are on as I'd rather not do the journey twice in close succession).

Gaydon is hardly "North"; in fact it's South of Warwick so not even "middle" tbh. M40 J12 or thereabouts. It's a very interesting motor museum with some real oddities and shows you how we could still have had a British motor industry if some of the more imaginative concept cars there had been allowed into production.

Brighton has little (well, nothing frankly) to interest me... I have always loathed the place.

That being said, I am open to most suggestions assuming the date works.

Gaydon is well worth a visit although I suspect that a lot of people here might have been there quite a few times before (with the Tipec events and so on). The countryside and roads around the south coast are more interesting in my opinion, although that's possibly as it's not an area I drive often.

What about Southend on Sea (yes I do realise it's not on the South Coast...) but if it's closer to a reasonable number of people then the chances of a good meet improve, but as ever with these things it's best that a local plan a route and find a suitable lunch stop (I'd always be happy to do one in the Chilterns if anyone ever fancies a run around some of the local roads, there's some pretty good ones here).

Yes Gaydon is Warwickshire, just off the M40 - http://www.heritage-motor-centre.co.uk/

If you want a Southern meet, you wont get much further south than Brighton! [:D]

Thought an auto link may be good for a place to meet but open to anything, don't mind a road trip as whilst I love the Rutland Meet, it's only 15 mins from me so not far to drive!

ahhhh, fond memories Chris, the Lakes and Fells Titanic trips were the best, I'd certainly be up for another of those once back on the road, I even took two of the kids with me and the wife, fantastic days. All those twisty lanes which the N/A cars really performed well on, put them on an even par with the boostie boys..:)

Peter's suggestion of the Chilterns isn't a bad idea. You need to be on a good link of several motorways, and it's going to be accessible for a lot of people within, say, an hour and a half's drive.

Nothing to do with the fact that I live there, of course. [:D]

I suppose we could meet up at mine, have coffee and bacon sandwiches, kick tyres then all drive off somewhere for lunch.

Well I can definitely think of some nice roads and places to go around here so I think a Chitern tour could be a very cunning plan.
