997 BUYING GUIDE.

Hello Clive, thanks for the chat by email and encouragement to post here about my C2S 997.2

I hope this is the right part of the forum to be sharing it? Still finding my way around. I've been to lots of club events but always in the flesh not online. Here goes: https://www.porscheclubgb.com/car-sales/sell-a-porsche/sellers/c6e9e3a3-da21-46a4-b35a-6deac412ba7c/911-(997)-carrera-2s-0

I've price it below independents but above trade price because it's got nearly 2 years of OPC Warranty left and has just had all new brakes and a full OPC service. 36,500 miles on the clock.

If I should be posting this elsewhere please direct me and I'll move along!

Many thanks, Luke

HI guys,
I am new to the forum and Porsche i have a restored 1975 Jensen Convertible which i am putting up for sale and looking for a new toy and am thinking of buying a Gen2 997 Targa 4 first choice or 4s 2008-2009 and wanted to find out how many were produced in these year's i have been told that production was low due to the 2007 financial crisis,

I was looking for a low mileage 20k one/2 owner car for around 40-45K

Let me know your thoughts and any advise would be appreciated,

Best

Peter,

Hi Peter and welcome to potential 997 ownership!

Production was lower but not sue on numbers for the Targa, have seen for the turbo so numbers are probably out there.

Just sold my Gen2 C4S a few months ago privately and would say you will be at the middle of your budget for a decent example 40k mile car on a private sale. If you are buying from a independent dealer then I think your budget will have to stretch towards 50k for a 20k mile car

Prices are based on what I got for a quick sale on my 4S.

Good luck with the hunt!

Go for a well serviced car and a bonus would be getting one still under Porsche extended warranty as this is transferable and repair bills can be costly if you are unlucky.

Hi,
Thanks for your prompt replies i am at the early stages and will set up a few teat drives in the near future, i take on board the extended warranty and have seen a couple of GEN2 cars with warranty until 2020 and would prefer to purchase from a main dealer for piece of mind.Manual would be preferred!!!! but saying that friends have said the PDK's are great to drive!!

Regarding production numbers do you think a main dealer would be able to advise?? as i want to try to purchase a year between 2007-2009 with the lowest production.

Regards

Peter,

Not sure if OPC will have the info avaliable but they may be able to get it.

If it were me I wouldn’t worry about a particular year as most will only look to Gen1 or Gen2 not the volumes for the years. Main thing people are looking for is the better reliability and later PCM etc for the Gen2

Thank you for this thread and valuable information.

Am considering changing the 2013 981 Cayman S PDK for a 2010 997 CS PDK with factory Aero Kit, from a recognised Independent.

Having only driven air cooled 911`s, as in my profile picture it seems that after three and a half years of Cayman`s I`m after a different driving experience. Not yet viewed the car in the flesh but it does look good on paper [;)] [:D]

Is there actually any difference between the early 997 2008 pdk and the later 2011 pdk?
Or is it just software updates?

Hi i am Looking for a 911 cab budget is not great at 28k tops. What model should i look at and what pitfalls should i be mindful on?

Thanks in advance [;)]

Good afternoon Rosso,
I've just seen your post and I am just about to put my 2007 997.1 C4S cabriolet tiptronic up for sale. Briefly its Arctic Silver with extended black leather interior. 72,750 miles with full history (OPC and independents). Total engine rebuild by Sid Malek at Porsche Torque last year so no bore scoring issues. Sport Design wheels with crested centre caps fitted with 4 new Michelin PS4S tyres. LED front daylights and Gen 2 rear lights. Pioneer AVIC F77DAB stereo unit (and original Porsche stereo). Just had full 12 year major service, MOT due mid December so I'm planning to get that done ASAP. Will be looking to advertise for £27,500 ono. If you think it might be of interest message me and I'll give you my number to call for a chat. I'm located in West Sussex.
Regards, Justin.
