996 Apple Play/Audio Upgrade from Porsche

It’s not problem to do, the kit comes with everything electrical you need to fit the PCCM to a 996 with a single din radio, you will however need parts 996.552.339.00.01C (the new trim for the air con controls which can be fitted in the bottom shelf location), and part 9965522311201C (replacement radio frame for the PCM, this allows you to fit the double din radio as the existing frame has a separator in the middle and doesn’t have the support for the PCCM to clamp against.

Hi all, does anyone know if this would fit into a 996 Targa? I think my heater controls are right where the double din would go.
Rob, Yes it will fit but you will need to move the heater controls down & may need additional surround trim dependent on how your centre console is configured. I have a 02 Targa but had PCM1 double din. Delighted with the new unit.

I replaced a PCM1 unit with the PCCM+ but it will be same for PCM2 I think. You do lose the trip computer functionality on the audio unit screen however I can still access, reset & scroll through the trip/MPG/average speed/outside temp etc on the OBC in the driver's instrument cluster in the dash.

any update on when this kit will be available again ?

It's available now. Aware of another member on here from East Mids Region had one fitted at OPC Nottingham this week.

I had the PCCM+ fitted to my 02 Targa last week - it is fabulous

Installed by GT-One, they needed to relocate the aircon controls but they did the job well

Thanks Andrew, that’s just up the road from me as I’m in Woking area. Would you mind telling us all rough costs please?

The PCCM+ unit plus all the various bits required (they also ordered the SD map card, which is worth having if one does not have mobile signal for Waze, plus aerial connector for DAB, microphone and a couple of covers) cost £1,282.77 excl VAT. Fitting, net of Club discount, was £228.15 excl VAT. They had to do a major job to remove the dash of my car to get to some leaking firewall gaskets that were letting substantial amounts of water into the interior, so this cost was incremental to the dash work being done. Not sure if it made much difference. They had to relocate the aircon controls and remove a CD storage rack.

The fit is nice and tidy, and looks like it could have been there since new. My 02 facelift Targa now has the same functionality as my 18 plate Cayenne, and I am used to the various screens etc. The Targa has the Bose sound system (speaker upgrade and amp) in the Targa, and the PCCM+ integrates seamlessly with it. Sound quality is very good.

I had a CDR-22 before in my car, and I liked it very much as a radio. I was quoted some fairly steep amounts to have Bluetooth fitted to it (although Chrome London seem to have a more reasonably priced kit). In the end, I thought I would prefer to have Apple CarPlay, to completely remove the risk of having to touch my phone when I am driving the car (and falling foul of the law).

It was pricey but worthwhile. Gives me the same functionality as in a very new car, and can continue to enjoy my Targa, so it is a worthwhile upgrade for me, particularly since it looks like it could have been there since new.

I bought a Sony double DIN DAB with Apple Car Play for £275 from Halfords, plus £40 for a new internal DAB antenna, then looked on line for the 996 Double DIn fitting kit - £40 ish, somewhat cheaper than the £1750 scandalous rip off OPCs charge

That sounds like good value Notserpg. Any pics of how it looks installed? Also, where did you find the fitting kit and did it include harness connections so you could use what was already in the car - IE, no cutting and splicing involved? Also, does your car have Bose as I have heard, but not understood, that this can complicate matters.

Many thanks.

I enquired at PORSCHE Cambridge about updating my Bose system, but I was told they were unsure of compatibility & would get back to me. I am still waiting to hear.

Just picked up my car fro Precision Porsche with the new PCCM+ fitted and they did an excellent tidy job.

I got the PCCM+ (and the map SD) from Tiele and the cubby from ebay. Still finding my way around the system but for the moment it is nice just to have a working radio. Fitting was 255+vat and i paid about 70 for a new genuine console side panel as the old handset unit was also removed.

If anyone is interested in a part functioning PCM2 and a working 8-cd autochanger then mine is available for shipping cost. Message for details.
