996 Apple Play/Audio Upgrade from Porsche

Good morning all,

I have just collected my 2004 996 back from Porsche yesterday evening with the new PCCM Plus and first impression is good. Thank you for the help and advice to date. A couple of questions if I may please?

- The satnav directions previously showed up in the instrument cluster on my old pcm (it was the last version of the PCM and I had the OBC on my 2004 996); am I right to think the directions should still show up on the instrument cluster please as I cannot see the directions currently? - My maps SD card has 01.01.2021 on the sticker on the outer case and the SD card itself inside the outer case has 02.2019 on it; does anyone know what the latest version is please? - Does anyone know what the latest SW version is on the PCCM that has the bug fixes (for the KM/MPH and freezing problems) please? Also how do you check the SW version in the new PCCM please?

Many thanks for any help and guidance.

Tim

Hi All, I'm a bit late to this thread but was wondering how long it takes to install the new PCCM+. Porsche Classic are selling the unit at £1,390.01 and I understand PCGB members can get 10 % discount, whilst my local dealer Guildford advise £2,084.93 fitted. So that must mean over £800 of labour to install, which seems a particularly long time. thanks Richard

Took me about half a day. I'd avoid getting anyone but yourself to install it, labour seems a lot till you see what dealers are charging per hour results in them essentially rushing the job, so far I've had to help a lot of users both here and on 911UK correct botched installs by OPC's and reputable indies just due to laziness and rushing and not following the very detailed and following simple step by step instructions (can provide if you PM me).

Everything you need to install is in the kit if you originally had a PCM and you just need a couple extra bits (UNDER £70) if you originally had a CDR22 or 23. It's ironically a really simple kit to install and made to be plug and play like a factory radio, most of your time will just be routing the cables for the GPS, microphone, multimedia box and antenna cables (if you had a PCM you can use the existing GPS antenna) and it's this which gets rushed where I have seen installers put the microphone in odd locations or leave it out to use the head units built in one to avoid the little work it takes to fit it on the steering column, skipping or incorrectly fitting the original antenna amplifier bypass resulting in almost non functional DAB or not understanding how to set the radio up so some users were left manually turning the radio on and off.

I have now collected my 2004 996 with the new PCCM+ unit installed by my local dealership.

I have to say that I really like the look and sound of the new unit. It has really brought the connectivity of the car up to date.

After some great advice on this thread, I went for putting the white connectivity box out of sight behind the cubby hole. I also went for a wireless charger to sit in the cubby hole and a wireless Bluetooth adapter. It is very slick to just put the phone on the wireless charger and it connects automatically, without the need to plug the phone in.

My thanks again for the help and support here. Very pleased with the outcome.

Hi, Autosounds have just fitted a Pioneer double din unit to my 996, android, apple car play, bluetooth and usb connection,£520.00 fitted, could not be happier...transforms my 996, they also do a cruise control unit, my next purchase, might have to reduce my beer consumption to pay for it lol

Hi Steve,

Can you post a pic of the Pioneer unit in place please?

JK

2 options; 1. If the original car has a wired Apple carplay, if you want to expand the application, you need to buy a conversion box (“carplay smart box”) to replace the wired carplay with wireless carplay and wireless android auto. U disk playback, Bluetooth phone, Android/Apple phone screen projection, setting options) The higher price is the open Android 11.0 version, you can freely choose to download youtube wazz spolify facebook map software, casual games, etc. in the Google store. 2: Before 2016, the original car without carplay needs to install a carplay module or replace the host and screen as a whole

hi all, I can’t get dab to work? any tips?

mine has pcm2 and 996.647.118.00 antenna on the drivers a piller and I can’t see how to unplug to use with any of the other cables or find where to fit the bypass blue ends cable.

am sorry to say I can't help you, mine was fitted by autosounds, but if you were to take it to a garage that fits them, as you have already installed it, I would not think it would cost much to find the fault, maybe it needs a converter of some sort?

So this is a long shot - given how old this post is. But I can see you replaced a PCM1 with PCCM+. I have just done the same. I was wondering, where did you put your DAB receiver? The leads that came with mine were rather short, and so the only place I could fit the receiver was on the tray of the stereo unit. Any chance you can remember? Thanks in advance, Graham.

Quote "I replaced a PCM1 unit with the PCCM+ but it will be same for PCM2 I think. You do lose the trip computer functionality on the audio unit screen however I can still access, reset & scroll through the trip/MPG/average speed/outside temp etc on the OBC in the driver's instrument cluster in the dash.
