991.2 GTS oil in turbos...

Hi, I was at the PCGB track day at Castle Combe last Thursday, and before even getting out on a fast lap had a dash full of errors and warning codes. I got recovered by Porsche assist back to my local dealership. This is their assessment:

• P0305 – Misfire, cylinder 5
• P0302 – Misfire, cylinder 2
• P13A3 – Misfiring damaging to catalytic converter, with cylinder deactivation
• P0300 – Random/multiple misfire detected

Following this, our technician completed a visual inspection and noted that oil appears to be entering the turbo via the combustion process, which is causing the misfire concern.
Based on these findings, Porsche’s guided diagnostic process recommends replacement of the turbo oil lines, oil tanks, and oil separator as an initial step.

It's under warranty and they are proposing to only change the lines, OAS and oil tanks, put it back together and see if it works. Am I right to be not happy about that? How firm should I be that the turbos need doing as well? Are there any tech bulletins etc that give me some backing?

The same happened to me whilst I was at a PCGB organised Millbrook Proving Ground event. I lost most of the engine oil in about 30 secs. First time using Porsche breakdown (also known as the AA, I had to wait for over 5 hours for them to arrive, but that's another story). They took the car to my local dealership. After the dealership checked the car they would not replace the turbos or the catalitic converter, just the seals and oil lines, like yours. That was over 6 years ago and so far no repeat issues.

Thanks Carlton, it's good to hear some positive news about the turbo issues. I love the car in every other respect, obviously this has dented my confidence in the car.

There was a discussion about 991.2 turbos in another thread. They are something of a repeat offender for failing. One member posted info that there had been a service advisory from Porsche that consisted of an upgrade kit with revisions to the oil system. Maybe seek this out or question your OPC about it.

In my experience OPC's, you need to point them in the direction of fixes and quetion them if something is suggested that is not to you satisfcation. They are a lazy bunch at best.
