944S2 Track Car Project - Spa April 2019

You certainly couldn't build it for that money - even starting with a 2k car fitted with kw's... If it had been around when I bought mine it would have been a no-brainer to buy it instead.

Im not convinced that either represent good value. The only thing that really caught my eye was the Pole Positions centre cushions which were recovered in matching blue pinstripe. The 'rear cages' in both, for example, are about as much use as a chocolate teapot and the extinguisher in the red car wouldnt be as effective as having quite a small wee...

Now this is what I'd really love... [link=http://www.rpmtechnik.co.uk/sales/stock-list/911-st-replica-a-car-with-hill-climbing-provenance/]http://www.rpmtechnik.co.uk/sales/stock-list/911-st-replica-a-car-with-hill-climbing-provenance/[/link]

Looking good Ed. see you on some Silverstone evenings I hope. But please stop the outrageous slander about it being better than your turbo - Oli's radar must be out of action for him not to pick up on this [;)]

I hope it's a lot less than that - might try and get it weighed in the next couple of weeks. It certainly feels light & "chuckable" in a way the turbo never did.
ORIGINAL: appletonn Ed have you weighed your S2 as yet - what do you reckon, around 1300kg?

I mailed Melindi last night as there's nothing on the Goldtrack calendar yet - she said they hope to be running some evenings in July. I know I don't have the power of a turbo, but light weight, better throttle response & shorter gearing make it more fun I think [:D]

The zermatt one is v expensive, the red one is the one that appeals to me..how much would it cost you to build that? - Here's my estimate - I'm sure you might quibble with a few numbers, but I'm not far off KWv3 + reindexing + geo + polybushes - £2500 Cam chain, belts etc.. - £400 M030 front hubs, brakes (refurbed?), RS29's all round - £1000 Seats, mounts, harnesses - £1000 So that's the best part of £5k, without the half cage (I tend to agree with you there - that's why my car doesn't have one), or any other remedial work you might need on a 20 year old base car. Add in the dealer margin (they need a margin in part to give you some sort of warranty / assurance) and it doesn't look so bad. Needs a different set of wheels though [:D]

It's being sold on behalf of the owner, so not a dealer sale as far as I can see. If my S2 had been written off by the insurance I'd have bought that one in a shot [8D] (providing it checked out when I tested it )

I've been mucking around with bits of plastic to try and improve the appearance & efficiency of the brake ducts. They sit inside the fog light openings, but much of the air will probably go past them. I bought a big sheet of ABS plastic and started cutting.....some hours later

As usual, the photos look better than the real thing, but not bad for a first attempt. ...and as i have loads of this stuff - here's my "radio delete" [:D]

It's been away for a few weeks at ph sportscars - nothing major, just sat there most of the time... Anyway, they fitted some 944 handles I have refurbed, fixed the central locking & drivers side window motor - all fiddly jobs I was happy to pay them to do [:D] I also got them to replace the slave & master cylinder - a bit of a pre-emptive strike as I had a couple of occasions where the clutch pedal wouldn't return. It wouldn't be very clever to have it fail at Spa. I guess i could have done the work, but for ~£70+VAT (plus the cost of the parts before anyone asks) it was well worth it - would have taken me a lot longer than 2 hours at home as I've never done one before, so it's always much longer first time. JD at Cavendish Classics (next to PH) sorted the bottom of the front wings - they were a bit rotten, but £150 sorted that. I've just fitted a Promax chip - once I worked out how to slide the top board out of the connector.. not as easy to split the boards as it was in the turbo. I can tell you the rev limit is higher, other than that, it still seems to go pretty fast [:D] A few more bits to do before Spa - the car is filthy so needs a good clean, I'm going to check the damper settings with KW as I'm getting a bit of mid-corner oversteer on the limit in fast bends (bit twitchy through Craner curve [:-]) I also want to fit some PF97 pads to the front and move the 1155's to the rear to give me a bit more braking. I'm also thinking that the alternator isn't working quite as well as it should..

Trust me, I am watching this thread carefully. When you have all decided (sorry, realised!) that the S2 is the superior machine then I will throw off my cloak of invisibility and pounce, like a cat, declaring that I was right all along! Until then, I shall bide my time carefully, in order not to spoil the vital element of surprise ... [:D] Of course I can only do this once Nick Appleton has bought an S2 as well - I don't want him to feel left out of the party! Oli.

Ready for Spa [:D] - just about anyway On Monday I popped back the rear dampers & backbox, & I decided to get the alternator rebuilt as it was not providing a consistent voltage - seemed to be dropping off during the journey. £70 and 2 days later it's back in the car and much healthier. of course the tensioner bar was seized - that was a bit of a pain to sort - and I had to take the radiator fans off to make enough room to get the alternator bolt out, but all done now. I've also killed my powervamp lightweight battery, so had to fit a standard one back in. New brakes bedded in tonight - PF97 are very entertaining at night - loads of orange sparks..[8D] I've not fitted the pad wear sensors - just cut the wires near the plugs and crimped the two ends together. Just needs a tank full of vpower and a good clean now

We're leaving early Tuesday morning for a tunnel crossing around 11am - staying overnight at the Tiergarten and getting a few 'ring laps in, early start on Wednesday to get to Spa. Overnight at Radisson Blu & back on the tunnel Thursday

Sounds good, I'm heading off to Holland in the morning so no doubt I'll see plenty of nice cars. Shame I can't make it, roll on April... Make sure you get plenty of pictures!

Ed, Ive only just seen your PH email! Sorry, I changed my PH email address recently. With TP and refurbished rear shocks you have everything covered! [:D] I hope that you have an enjoyable time. Simon
