944S2 Track Car Project - Spa April 2019

Thanks Paul It's quite tidy, but will never be a concours car... Running gear & Engine is a bit grimy & corroded, but I can't see that really being a problem. Not bad for 230k though - and I reckon it would come up quite well with a clay bar & wax. Here's another picture [:D]

Never ceases to amaze me how losing the 'PORSCHE' decal and black bumper insert from the back changes the appearance of the car. Oli.

I think the wheels look very cool, the lack of Porsche rear sticker and black strip look very race car aswell.I bet it's a lot of fun! Enjoy yourself and be careful!!!Don't scare too many people at night with the PF pad fireworks!!!!!![:D] If you ever want good value 17 inch track rubber PM me!!!! (couldn't resist a quick sales pitch)

That's a great picture - I might try and track down the original Unfortunately the car isn't quite as pretty at the moment - my co-driver had a little "moment" at Spa. Luckily it didn't do any major damage & we were able to carry on with the day. Here's a picture of the culprit reviewing the damage (and probably reviewing the damage to his wallet [:D]).

Spa is an amazing circuit - and the car went very well. There are some wonderful flowing corners, and some very tricky ones. Pouhon (I think) - double apex downhill off camber left hander was very challenging, particularly when there's wet astroturf on the outside of the bend waiting to spit you off... There were a lot of very fast cars out, so I did a fair bit of pulling over to let them past, but I had a great time. A bit of tuition really helped my lines. The speed differential between the S2 and a GT3 on the Kemmel straight is quite staggering.. Mind you my car probably cost less than a couple of sets of GT3 tyres.. Lots of people on slicks as well. Apart from the damage, the car acquitted itself really well. Used about half a litre of oil, so nothing to worry about there, and even managed the 420 miles back today on a single tank of fuel - reserve light not even on yet! I think there's slight knock from a bearing or bush to investigate, but nothing major, and only to be expected really. I see the car as a bit of a rolling refurbishment, and will just replace parts as they wear.

Sorry to see that Ed, just goes to show the potential dangers of track day driving (or letting a friend behind the wheel!). Hope its back as was ASAP for you. Edd

sorry to see your friend had a bit of an off, but tbh it looks like it could have been much worse! if u need a rear 1/4 i have a perfect complete panel with adjoining panels still attached which would be perfect for a repair give me a shout if its of use to you thanks nick

The advice is never to take anything to a track which you aren't happy to leave in the barriers there, and I'm sure you are sensible enough to have followed that advice! Although I have to say, that looks like scarring to be proud of! Two large dents corresponding to hitting a barrier with a glancing blow, going sideways, on the rear 3/4 of the car. Tells a tale of enthusiastic driving, bit more power than the rear tyres could cope with (S2's, eh!) and a learning experience for the guy in the driver's seat. Nothing there to be ashamed of, for sure! Oli.

it's no big deal. Kurt is a good friend (and was already apologising mid-spin as we were both passengers by then). he's also a very experienced track driver, whose sprint car has twice the power and half the weight of the s2. he felt a lot worse about it then I did- and will be suffering for years as we remind him of it.. we've talked about it a fair bit - crashes are just part of the deal... you go on track for the buzz, which mainly comes from getting as close to the limits of your talent as you dare. sure there's satisfaction in improving technically, but without the danger it would be less compelling. it's a reminder that everyone makes mistakes- a bit of red mist, overconfidence, and then you go off. As it's just a track car it can go off to the bodyshop for a few weeks and I won't really miss it. it's a good argument for running a daily driver alongside a track car.

>RaisesEyebrowQuizzically< Either that's an interesting new term for an insurance company or a mis-type ... Oli.

Glad you had a good time Ed and sorry to see the pics of your rear end [] Looks like something the the bodywork guys at PH will have sorted in no time. Thank god you were able to drive it home - that would have been a nightmare if you hadn't

From a positive angle after its painted at the back and they mop the car it will look AWSOME ! Super shiny!!!

I have ADAC cover - I think they would have obliged (and have done before for my Honda..) There's also Alex (Lizard Logistics) who makes a living out of ferrying crashed cars back from the 'ring and Spa, so one way or another I would have sorted it. Notwithstanding the crash, I would recommend Spa to anyone - maybe the only downside is that it does attract a lot of faster cars, so you do need to keep an eye out for the GT3's and radicals

If that was the case then you would never see any intertesting cars on the track, no GT3's, GT2's, no Ferrari's, no Porsches, no M3's, just a load of stripped out Saxo's and how boring would that be? Even a dedicated track car costs £££ and I doubt many would want to leave theirs in the barrier either... Ed
