944 November get together

ORIGINAL: Martin Sage

Where are you going Glenn, Basingstoke! [;)] Thought we were going back to the pub at Barton Mills which isn't that far from Snetterton?

Martin

We're meeting at the Little Chef at Barton Mills for breakfast on the way to Snetterton. We're eating at the Ship Inn at Brandon Creek on the way back (http://www.theshipbrandoncreek.co.uk/).

I used to work in Basingstoke and so now avoid it if at all possible. [;)]

Brandon Creek is 32 miles from Snetterton. Barton Mills is 22 miles. 10 miles difference. Not really a whole hill of beans.

What time do we all want to be at the pub by? Depending on route, Google is suggesting a distance of 30 - 40 miles and a run time of between 1hr and 1hr15 to there from Snetterton (although I suspect that isn't a "Porsche Optimised" time [:D] ).

Hi Glenn,

Been giving this some thought and come up with the following as a starting point to be discussed / agreed

Barton Mills - 9 - 9.30
Snetterton - 10 - 10.30 (arrive)
Snetterton - 14.00 - 14.30 (leave)
Brandon Creek - 15.00 - 16.00 (arrive)

Times are purely a guide and not set in stone, what do you guys think (don't want to be at circuit too long in case Mas does come[:D])
With those times we should be ready for more grub by then and maybe the pub would have quietened down after the their lunch rush

Having looked at the map (and on reflection), I feel Brandon Creek is too far out, especially for our London chums.
How about swinging by Thetford on the way back, or even Barton Mills where there is a good pub?
Just a suggestion, what do you all think? [8|]

Hi Martin,

Plans are all set, it!s only 32 miles from the Snetterton and looks a nice place to go, we will be sticking with it.
It is in he complete opposite direction for me, but hey I will be driving my 944 [:)]

Hope you stick with us

The difference between Snetterton->Brandon Creek->London and Snetterton-> Thetford->London is 25 miles (based on Google Maps quickest route for each) - not much in the scheme of things.

The point of this outing has always been to "go for a drive, visit the circuit, go for a drive and then have a meal" all the time enjoying our 944s with a group of like-minded friends and not "find the quickest route between point A and point B".

Looks good although I'd prefer nearer 15:00 than 16:00 at the pub. By 16:00 I'll be getting perilously close to gnawing my own leg off and that could make the rest of the journey home tricky unless someone attending has a 944 Automatic they're willing to lend me? [;)]

Agreed, any excuse for a drive is a good excuse in my book.

Hi all,

If I get my car through its MOT and the coolant leak sorted I'll definitely come. Snetterton is only 40 minutes from me.

Cheers

Will

Hi Andre,

Be good to see you again, plenty of room at Snetterton for all, and it is a charity event so more the merrier, have to wait for Glenn Re: the afternoon pub meal as there might be a restriction on numbers there.

Hope your car is up and ready Will

Can you meet up at South Mimms or Barton Mills with the rest of us?

If you are coming can you please copy and add your name to the list?

Welcome aboard Andre and (fingers crossed) Will. I've just pinged Mark the pub manager with a tentative figure of 8-10 guests and he's relaxed about that so if either of you want to eat please indicate.

Just been looking at my route for this trip from my home in Bedford and it looks like A1, A14 and A11 to the Barton Mills hookup. Anyone else planning the same route? (Andy, or Simon maybe, will you be coming down the A1?

We'll certainly be covering part of that route on our way up from the South. A1, A505, A11, A14, A11.

Hi Joss

I haven't spoken to Simon yet but had anticipated hooking up with him at Peterborough then we convoy down the A14. We can all join up together, where abouts would be best to meet?
