The early 968 rods were the weakest, the factory manual actually states they should be replaced if the engine is that far apart. I'm using the early turbo rods which were the strongest of the lot.
As far as I know all the forged turbo rods are the same, though I believe a clearance mod is required on the 3.0 block to use them.
They bolt straight in.

Back on topic, I'm sure the car would be plenty robust enough and its not just had engine work IIRC.
If only I had the cash/space.

I wonder why some engine builders state the lower shoulders on the aftermarket rods fit with no clearance issues ?. Re the Hartech car there was other work, I couldn't live with the colour though and the fact the rest of the car has been to the moon almost.

Just to confirm, he used a 968 bottom end he had lying around and mated it up with a 944 2.7 8v head after machining the 968 pistons to lower compression. It was all then slotted straight into a Turbo because the 2.7 head lines up perfectly with intake and exhaust. Everything else on the car is totally standard, but it had a rolling road remap to get the fuelling correct for the extra capacity engine.
The project was not to build a fire breathing, all singing and dancing monster capable of running high boost with mega power, but was a simple exercise that deleivered a very driveable, torquey Turbo with good low down grunt and less lag. The extra 500cc capacity achieved all that. [

Going to the extreme edge, does that mean as all 944's are that old you're going to take your rods out and check them? [
The interference issue I believe is when stroking the 2.5 block using a s2 or 968 crank.

No, they may be cast anyway so I'd stump up for some proper rods if I ever build a 3.0 or bigger [
