@James0 the ride on the 17" is quite comfortable tbh, i do like them and i like the way the car looks and sits.
i prior to this 951 i had a 2.7 944 sitting on 15" tele-dials and that was a very comfy ride.

best,

IIRC when going BOV with a MAF you want a twin piston-type BOV, this will stop any idling issues. As for the 'rich' comments, this isn't an issue, it last's mere seconds and of course only happens when the throttle is closed. If using a MAP then it's even less of an issue as the air readings are taken from the manifold, not the MAF or AFM. Vitesse is a bit of an oddball here as it uses both MAF and MAP sensors, I have never had an issue using a BOV with this setup or the previous MAF only Vitesse setup. Idle is both strong and regular, you wouldn't know it was a modified car and this has been noted by others who have looked over the car in the past. As for performance differences, there are none except when getting into high power engines when the recirculating valve is limited as to how much boost it can deal with, for a BOV this is not a problem as it's all going to atmosphere. Whichever type is used, it will be better than the OEM if more power is being developed than standard, if the BOV is still an original OEM valve, change it as it will not be working properly now and losing you boost.

I guess, it's less heated air in the inlet but I'd say that's marginal at best.

I've not messed with it for years but I'd have thought an adjustable valve would be your best bet, so as not to lose all that boost between shifts.
Its never been a priority for me as the boost builds very fast on mine due to the turbo being too small for a 3 litre engine .

Where it vents to is less important than how leaky it is and how worn everything else is.

Hi all,

hope you're all enjoying the weather !

what Tial F38 do you suggest installing on 951 ?

i have several but they are all different 'bar'

thanks
h

Half your intended boost pressure.

You remove the head and swap out the spring, you don’t buy a different wastegate.

hello all !

i hope you are all keeping well under the current circumstances !

just a quick update on my 952 !

This is what I propose to do now, as the car is running absolutely perfectly thanks to C Sanderson & Loe Bank Motor

1) Custom SS Exhaust (Bought)
2) EBC - Apexi AVC-R purchasing this of ElDavo
3) DPW - Tial 38mm
4) Chips - Spoke to Wayne S he said he could get around 280-300bhp on standard chips after re-map
5) FPR - 3 Bar Bosch FPR (Bought)
6) EBC Brake Pads (Bought)
7) FP - Bosch 044 Fuel Pump

The SS exhaust gets fitted this Monday. and the FPR is arriving this weekend

As my HG hasn't been done i want to run the car conservatively approx around 260BHP to risk it blowing, would this be a safe call on BHP ?

All the Best,
H

Sounds good, HG depends how rotten it is (which depends if it is original how much antifreeze etc etc.) and also how much boost you are running to achieve power figures. However if it blows during the change access to the turbo is much easier and turbo mods on a 220 will free up lots more power with your other mods :) don't go too mad though or you will lose all the torque and only make power at high rpm. The 220 turbo (K26/6) gets out of its efficiency range around 270 / 280 and generates excess heat with a 26/8 from a 250 car you can get into the 320Bhp 330BHp range 350ft/lbs there are many more modern equivalents to choose from but fitting may require more work (inlet plumbing mods etc.)
Enjoy the journey! The mods so far will make the car much more capable especially compared to an original tired leaky wastegate and the original boost control.

PS what colour EBCs did you go for? I had success with greens as a comparable alternate to standard pads with less dust, reds I didn't get on with loads of dust and no big perfomance over green also wore fast. Yellows really impressed - very noisy until I cooked them - black flagged on a trackday due to noise so came into pits with hot pads, 5 mins of smoking and they have been silent since, much better performance over the others and not too dusty. not tried blue and this is all dating back over 10 years so formula has probably changed.
Most of my mileage was on road, with occasional track and I am relatively easy on the brakes compared to some.

@944Turbo I'm guessing it is the original i come to this conclusion because I cannot see any paperwork or receipts in the folder for the HG and i have 99% of the paperwork starting from 1986 !
Yes your spot on i've got the K26/6 turbo what mods can you do to it ? VERY TRUE i don't want to go crazy I just want it to have a bit more power i'd be happy with 270-300BHP.
Yes i think the waste-gate needs an upgrade as its the original i'm guessing so 35 years young !

I went for reds only because i had them spare from the 512TR ! Seriously lots of dust ?! The reason why i bought them a while ago was they are the lowest dust rating on the EBCS

With the 26/6 probably not worth dong much, but there are better turbos that fit without plumbing mods, e.g. a26/8 bolts straight in but tech has moved on quite a long way and there are better options - save that discussion until you need it!

Ref the EBC reds, I know the formulas changed and it was early 2000s when I used them so they may well be improved, If you have them already you have nothing to lose trying them!

The Head gaskets rot in the water jacket which removes support for the fire rings the original one on my 90 car pushed the ring out, the one on my 91 cab did the same about 3 years ago. Both had full service history so I believe they always had good antifreeze. Both cases the surrounding material was rotten. Doesn't really do any other damage so no real harm in waiting until it goes - except the risk of being stranded!

Unless water leaks into a cylinder like my old TR7. Hydrolock and bending a rod might spoil your day. Sweepstake on how long his head gasket lasts when the boost is turned up?

Not very long at all. Ask me how I know! [&:]

Ended up with a top end rebuild and a turbo rebuild. However 60k miles later we are still all good!
