Hello Everyone.... just achieved my boyhood dream of owning a 911. I picked up my low mileage 997.1 C2S last Thursday and can't stop driving it, for any, or even no reason! Look forward to meeting at events post COVID 19 lock down... working from home not too bad....at least I get to see it all day!

Finally got round to sending in a picture. This car was the Monte Carlo launch car 23rd June 2006. Carmon Red with beige interior. After the initial deposit was taken in 2004 in early 2006 you were told the car you would get, no choice, either take it or leave it. After the launch party you were given the keys allowed to take it away.

Stunning. Does your story relate to all early 997 turbos or just in Monte Carlo? No choice of colour, gearbox, spec at all?

This was the way it worked then and I believe even today the same process applies all around the world. In 2004 Porsche revealed they were developing the new 997. It was obvious there would be a Turbo model. On 9.11.2004 interest was recorded with the main Porsche dealership in Monte Carlo of the possible new Turbo and a deposit of 10,000E paid. This happened I believe in every major dealership in every country where the car was to be launched. No details of the car were given and no preferences were taken. You had no idea about engine size, transmission type, brakes, colours or optional extras. On 27.2.2006. the market launch vehicle spec for the Monte Carlo car was given to the potential new owner, listing colour spec and costs, in my car's case 151,000E. The spec of the car was decided by Porsche HQ for all the launch cars in the world. I do not know if the dealerships had any say. The potential hand over date was also given in this case 30.6.2006. You now had the option of taking that specific car or reordering and probably having to wait for over a further year for your personally specked car to arrive after all the other pre orders had been delivered. The official launch was on 23.6.2006 where the car was displayed in the showroom for the reveal. People were allowed to look at it but not drive it. After the party the car was handed over once the final payment of 151,900E minus the 10,000E deposit had been paid. When you look at the build specification for my car it has the code 762 F market launch vehicle.

Oh I see it was just the market launch vehicles then. With all the other speculative models you put a deposit down years ahead, if/when the model gets announced, and you are lucky enough to get an allocation, you can then spec it to your taste.

I am not sure when you can spec up your car. Launch cars not possible, they are the first. However back in 2006 I don't think you could start to spec cars until the spring 2006 for delivery in the Autumn of 2006 at the earliest.  Cars for which deposit was paid in 2005, I believe you had to take what was offered. There were more buyers than cars available for the initial production run and Porsche knew whatever they built they could sell. I am not sure how it works now but I would be very surprised if there was a significant difference.

Now I can use it more freely and with the new exhaust on, I thought I'd post a couple of pictures. New to Porsche and to PCGB.

Cheers,

Thanks guys, appreciated.

I know the interior is a bit of a marmite colour, but I love it personally. I know for some the only way is black, but I find that dull, unless maybe on a very light coloured exterior.
