Hi Paul

I have owned my black 1988 924S for two years. It was registered in July so is one of the last 300 924s ever made according to the chassis number.

I wanted power steering as we have a very tight underground car park at work and I have been spoilt by years of modern cars. I also paid a little extra for remote central locking and boot release when the latest alarm was fitted. I wasn't happy with the factory fitted horn alarm which didn't seem to work.

I put a new Porsche steering wheel on from the Porscheshop (the black 930 wheel) which looks great and new gear gater which helps. I also gave the interior a really good clean, sounds obvious but what a difference it makes to the car and driving pleasure.

I use polish which is designed for black cars (it is basically black coloured and fills in the micro scratches) this helped restore the shine to the paint work but it is worth wearing plastic gloves otherwise you end with hands the same colour as your car for a week or so. Halfords do polishes in red, black, white and probably others.

When I purchased the 924S I thought I would keep it a while and 'trade up' but I am now a complete 924 fan and have decided to spend some money on the body work and enjoy driving another summer with the roof out and the windows down. The fact I can get my childern in the back makes it more useful than any 2 seater.

I really enjoyed the "Frontrunner" day at the club house on 4th April and hope there will be other events which cater for the 924/944/968 owners. It was great meeting you and everyone else and getting plenty of new ideas on how to spend money on my car. I really liked Marc Gough's 17inch Cup alloys on his 924S, maybe next year.

Hope to see pently of 924s in August

best wishes

John Stratford

Met Paul twice. Frontrunner and autojumble (over the fence) Really nice guy, keep up the good work you are obviously doing and I hope someone does this for the 944's. Cheers.

Hello Darren

It was a really nice day wasn't it.

Did you see the Boxster headlights there at £10 each! Just for a moment I thought "I should get those" then my sanity chip kicked in

Hi all, one of the newest members reporting in.

I have just bought my first Porsche, a 1988 924S in White with Pinstripe cloth. It's pretty well standard and I love it. I know I don't need to tell you all, but it's fantastic. I'm sending off the Register details today.

I've owned a variety of vehicles from a Mini, Maxi, VW Scirroco, Avenger, Primera, a couple of Land Rovers, and built a VW Beetle-based off-roader (raced it a couple of times with the all Wheel Drive Club!) I drive a Renault Laguna company car daily, so the 924 is my weekend toy.

hope to see some of you around this summer. I live in Sussex (R23).

cheers .......... Phil Edwards

Hi,

I'm Andy, Birmingham based, and bought my first Porsche, a 924 the end of Arpil this year.

The mot had expired, and tax was about to, and it had been part exchanged so was at a dealers in Halesowen. It was good enough cosmetically and had some (none porsche) service history, so I parted with 1400 notes and she was mine.

Anyhow, she passed the mot without a single scrap of work needed, so the service history it came with was clearly pretty good!

Gold, with good bodywork, but the seals leak (sunroof and rear hatch) and starting is sometimes a real pain when warm.
Starting is a slight issue anyway as she seems to fire on 3 cylinders, but I have posted that separately if anyone has any ideas!

1984, A plate. Real fun to drive. Brings a smile to my face every time, despite the awkward steering wheel positioning when you're 6ft 2!

Hi Andy

It might help your driving position if you check if the spacers are still under the seat. If the drivers seat is 1/2 inch higher they are. You need a 10mil socket and allen key and about 1/2 hour to do the job. It makes a difference.
Regards

Terry

Hi Andy

Hope the 924 is recovering in your hands, always good to hear of a 924 being rescued.

Welcome aboard

Hi, I am David Napier and have had my 924 Carrera Gt for about 3 months. I went out to buy a landrover and came back with a Porsche. Drove it down through europe and am now regularly driving it around Sarajevo (I think it is the only Porsche here!). Never had a Porsche before and am having great fun, though it does frighten me sometimes when the back end goes as the turbo kicks in on cornering. But I am slowly learning how to drive it. Locals are very aggressive - envy I guess, they are also awful drivers, which makes for interesting driving. Still - no regrets about not getting a landrover. Life really is to short! Regards to all, David

Hello

My name is Andrew Marsden and i was 17 on the 23rd of august. I just bought my 924 LUX on august 29th. She was born in 1984 and is in guards red. It took about 6 months to find the right car and in one day me and my dad covered over 350 miles just to view 2 cars! But it was all worth it in the end as to me it is the most beautifull looking car in the world. I look forward to taking her to the next meeting in the east midlands reigon, hope to see some of you there!

Hi Peeps

My name is Marc Gough and i have owned and loved my 924S for 7 going on 8 years now, and it has never let me down, i hope thats not tempting fate.

Its a great car and i cant praise it enough, i would really love a 911 but cant bare to part with this one so a proud 924 owner i will stay

i hope to hear and see all of you guys soon, keep motoring and remember a 924 isnt just for christmas if u love it, it will last a life time.

A 924 SHOULD ALWAYS BE DRIVEN WITH A DIRTY FAT SMILE PLASTERED OVER YOUR FACE.

Hi I'm Bryan Harrison and have just joined the club after buying a 82 "X" 924 in guards red. (Couldn't afford the 911 or boxster yet). It had three owners full history (of sorts) all bar the first MOT and 94K on the clock. Brought the car home last Tuesday after the last owner (for 12 years) said it was a cracker, well its not bad but already had to replace a damaged rear spoiler, found a coolant leak from the heater switch (may be more) and the cold start dont work right. She must have had 6 weetabix for breakfast each morning cos the clutch is so stiff. She told me its been like that for the 12 years shes had it, the cables knackered.
registration form on its way this weekend.

Hi Bryan, we all start out with that thought in mind, and then never get round to the 911 because the 924 is a great car and excellent value. You'll have a good (and occasionally frustrating) time with it. Keep looking on the forum, it's a gold mine for help and advice.
