Delivery Woes

I ordered a new 911 Cab back in February and expected to have it on the road end July early August. Unfortunately I am told by my OPC the car has still not been built yet. Furthermore when it does arrive it may not have the complete specification due to a shortage of key parts some of which may be available later for retrofit. Seems like a difficult time to be a new car buyer.

I would be interested to hear whether anyone else is experiencing problems with delivery or "missing items"

Hi Bob
i have heard of a few cars which have only been supplied with one key for the time being, and a few more that don’t have electric steering adjustment which can be retrofitted when available.
I haven’t got my key yet, oh, and the car is missing too.
we are trying to establish if this is another semi conductor missing.
we can only hope after the factory August shutdown that they "find” parts for the 1,000 cars which have been built and are awaiting finishing/completion.

This appears to be normal sadly Bob
at our OPC there are several new cars short of parts waiting for delivery and three 4.0 GTS waiting on new engine parts!

Will be good to see you back in the Porsche family when you finally get your car Bob.
Apparently the floods in Germany affected some suppliers badly too. So not just the semiconductor shortages.

Not sure he ever left? Running a Cayenne alongside the 720S as I recall. I assume Bob, the Cab is for the good wife?

How's your 992 experience Peter? Have read on forums about some niggling issues with Porsche connect. I've been Porsche less now for 20 months, waiting to see what the Macan Hybrid is like next year.

Hi Geoff

992 experience has been excellent. Had it two years and like many have not had the opportunity to use it as much as intended. But have just passed 6k miles in it and first service completed. No issues apart from a cracked screen early on, then an irritating rattle persisted and eventually tracked down by SHMBO as the mirror housing. The delightful gentlemen at Autoglass had broken the clips when refitting the screen and glued the remaining bits. Fortunately, this had also affected some circuitry so was replaced by my OPC under warranty.

Apart from that, there were lots of updates at the service, so took a couple of days to complete. Porsche Connect seems to work fine, just don't let the battery run down completely like I did...

Enjoying the 600LT?

Ordered my 992 C2 on 1st Feb (just uploaded a new thread) and picked up last week.

All in tact but had a slim spec in comparison. Only one key but that seems like the norm!

Absolutely loving it though.

I will update you all once I know the final position. That is not likely for some time as Porsche and my OPC are very poor at keeping customers informed

I am pleased to report that my new car has now been built and is on its way to the OPC. Of course in todays world it is very difficult to say when it will actually arrive and my OPC doesn't know yet whether there any "bits missing"

A word of warning to those considering ordering a new car. Delivery times are now way into the future . My OPC told me if I was to order my car today he would be quoting 2 years plus for delivery (compared to my 6 months quoted and 8 months actual) and I am not sure how that makes any sense. Should be good for second hand values though

Good news indeed, Bob. I hope all will be well when it finally arrives.

I believe al least part of the supply problem may be the dealer's low factory allocation.

Regards,

Clive

Hey Bob,

Great news, hopefully not long now.

My 992 was released from the factory on 30th July and it arrived at my OPC on the 11th August, that could give you an idea on timelines.

Look forward to seeing it!

My understanding is that delivery times are also dependant on which model you're ordering as lead times are not the same across the board.

'2 years plus' sounds a bit fantastical.

It's certainly the line that has been given to my OPC as well. A 992 C2S for example, quoting Q2 2023 for delivery. Of course, things change, as we know, but there does seem to be a preference for Porsche supplying markets that give them the best profit. An the UK is not one of them.

No idea why anyone would want to stick with one dealer and wait 2 years!. Not all dealers have the same allocation.

Genuine buyers have the option of ringing around to get better terms.

Clive

I’m on my 2nd Porsche and 2nd dealer and in my (albeit limited) experience there does seem to be different levels of service depending on which dealer you choose. The first was woeful and never bothered to communicate…..the current one is much better and is keeping me updated with build and now delivery logistics….it finished build last week and is currently awaiting loading at Emden. Porsche GB have told me the US ‘Track Your Dream’ App is coming to the UK and in pilot but I’ve yet to see it materialise….I’m hoping my car will be with the dealer in a couple of weeks and everything is all present and correct….fingers crossed!

Seems like a bit of a lottery at present. My car left the factory on the 8th September and is still awaiting loading at Emden. My OPC has no idea when he will get the car as they suspect the delays in the UK will be longer than in Germany. My OPC tells me that they still have to pay full price for the car even if there are bits missing even though Porsche cant give any guarantee when retrofit will occur so hoping its all as specified. Supply chains around the globe are in a mess. I had my AMG serviced last week and the Merc garage could not get any plugs

Hi Bob,

Do you know which options or parts are the problematic ones with Porsche that they’re saying dealers will have to retrofit?
