New Taycan Register

Following the invitation in the June edition of Porsche Post, a new Register has been created for Taycan owners.  As your new Register Secretary, I am keen to hear from all new Taycan owners about their early experiences, both positive and negative.  Even for those that are not new to electric vehicles, or have owned other Porsche cars, the Taycan is an extraordinary experience to drive.  There are many features of driving and owning a Taycan that will be new to most, and with the limited handover arrangements on collection, owners are 'learning-as-we-go'.  I will be using your experiences to share knowledge and information, both here on the PCGB Forum, and through upcoming editions of Porsche Post.  Please make sure your car's details are fully registered under your PCGB profile so that we can reach out to all Taycan owners, to keep you up to date on relevant events and developments.  I am both a new Taycan owner (I took delivery only last week) and new PCGB member (R16), so I look forward to hearing from, and one day meeting, as many of you as possible.  I can be contacted either via PM through this Forum, or email: taycan@porscheclubgb.com, or tel: 07764 608544.

Welcome to the Forum, Jon, and to your new role.  Good to see your car is in the best colour.

Hi Jon and all

thank you for volnteering to be the ~Taycan Registrar
I am a long standing but normally very quiet PCGB member (read but dont often post ) however I thought i would share a few ~Taycan thoughts

looking forward to  my new Taycan Turbo, should have been built last week aparrently due to me end june, (but Ive not had this confirmed yet)
in the best colour  Volcano grey!  - of course we all think our cars are the best colour, im hoping it will be innoculous enough to avoid roving speed  camera operators, but blue leds may undo this thinking

its a logical progression from my 928's 😉
just look at the similarities
aluminium doors wings and bonnet , tick both 928 and taycan
fiendishly complex electronics ( age appropriate) tick ,. both Taycan and 928
mechanical gearbox on rear axle 928 SE is manual and Taycan has two speed rear axle , tick both
4 seats tick both, rear limited room in both
class leading headlights ( age appropriate ) tick both
aluminium suspension, front and rear, tick both
rear axle steering , 928 weissach axle passive rear , Taycan active rear
folding rear seats , tick both
curved instrument display moves with steering wheel, tick both
top speed approx 160mph , tick both
Abs brakes, tick both, but the taycan has a whole suite of added ( stop you falling off the road electronic gizmos)
so both very similar give or take 30 years

significamt differences
great V8 engine and soundtrack
Phenomenal electric motor power, performance and acceleration , porsche sound electric warble
acceleration, hmm.. taycan nearly twice as quick as 928 to 60mph 😳😳 5.3 vs 3 secs

weight 928 1580 kgs, ~Taycan 2380kgs so Taycan 50% heavier but Taycan has 4 wheel drive
928, can be filled in 5 minutes at 10,000's of locations in the UK, Taycan can be "filled " in 20 minutes at 4 ( i think ) 800v charging stations in UK
fuel cost :-
928 24 MPG, or 24 miles for £6, so 25p per mile
Taycan 83kw chargable capacity  for 240 miles ( i dont have mine yet so assumed range ) if your electrics at home at 13p/kwh, will cost £11 per "fill" so 4.45p per mile .. but i have solar panels , so free on a sunny day😀
928's Diy able , nowhere to plug a computer in ( ok there is a limied diagnostic socket on later models)Taycan need to plug a computer in,  not many opportunities for DIY maintenance

Im sure i will greatly enjoy the Taycan, but have owned my auto 928 for 23 years ( longest ive owned any car !) and SE for 5,,,, which will be "best"

of course! the 928 it has a hatchback, must be the winning feature 😁😁😁

Peter, do you yave a private plate with your surname to go on the Taycan?  I love my 928 too but one thing you didn't mention was the lovely interior smell.  So different to modern cars.  Enjoy your new one - I'm looking forward to a go in a demonstrator when we can do such things again.

I'm speeding because I have to get there before I forget where I'm going.

a plate with WATTS would be so appropriate on a Taycan,.
sadly the DVLA website tells me that W4TTS is on a black 2014 range rover... and not mine

Reg transfers has CH14RGE at £6k
or W9TTS at £47k, !!
think I'll just stick with a current  PMW plate

Hi Peter

Good to hear from you and I wish you all speed towards your delivery.  Your comparisons with the 928 are very interesting...I suppose you can consider this a 'back to the future' experience!  (familiar yet very different at the same time).  Do let me know when you get a confirmed delivery date.
Having not owned a Porsche previously, I have no reference points to compare my new Taycan with - all I can do is revel in the awesome driving experience.  The effortlessness and refined nature of the way it achieves speed is quite astonishing.  Said that I am trying to be gentle with mine whilst still in the running in period!
It's a long trip from where I am in Wiltshire (next to Castle Combe) up to Yorkshire, but hopefully we can meet up one day!
best regards

Jon

Hi Jon, welcome  to and good luck with your new Register,
The Taycan is a very different vehicle than all the others in the PCGB list of cars and will have some interesting needs for your  members. I will read your Taycan Register reports to find out what they will be, because they will certainly be different.

Jon,
maybe we will meet sooner that you think
my brother lives in Melksham, think thats quite close to Castle Coombe, I could visit him when attending that Taycan track day that we will need to organise1

this will be my first foray into EV cars - all existing cars other than the clasic 928's are V8 or V12 , so a Taycan will be a very different audio experience

Jon, did you get your car from Dick Lovett in Swindon?  Must be one of the first delivered I would guess. We'll be following your real life experience with your car with great interest.
Anyway - pictures???!!!

Hi Peter - yes that would be great wouldn't it!  I read in my Taycan manual that I shouldn't take it on a track for a certain number of miles until it is run-in...I can't remember how many it said but something like 1500 miles from memory.  Nevertheless, I took it for some hard driving round the local roads over the weekend, and it did well...given the weight, it takes a while to 'settle' after going over a hump in the road, but cornering was very solid, and power immense.
Here come a few pics now...
cheers
jon
